Nice one! I always try to find that analogue feeling within digital machines, too. :-)

Footnote: the 909 produces the hi-hats, ride and crash from 6-bit digital samples. They’re not even analog!

As an IT guy if you set random to the same seed value, the next time you start it, it should produce the same results

How can i switch between my samples in Logic Pro X really fast? In Ableton he just listens to the track and changes the sample while the track is playing, in logic i have to drag it in, which is so slow and annoying...

Transpose MIDI FX tool in conjunction with EXS24, then mapped with controller makes it easy to switch between samples in LPX.

Love the kick trick, but shouldn't the polarities match when you mix the clicks over the original kick, otherwise you'll have phasing issues??

Brilliant!? So first everyone is told (at length) it doesn't matter what DAW you are using these tips can be adapted and used by any... first tip is only for Ableton Live and Bigwig users.... second tip relies on being able to access drum machine hardware to record (very slightly) different versions of exactly the same sound.....in order that your drums sound ANALOGUE, seems like these tips won't be for "everyone"... I also have to say i too like Fabfilter Pro Q 2 but to say its your favourite plugin IN THE WORLD seems a little ridiculous!!

you can manually make variations of the same sample with software. Just takes a long time.

You are over complicating things for very small gains. If you were to create a sampler instrument just to select a hi hat or a kick etc, You are loading all those samples into your RAM, wasting valuable space in your system. You don’t need to make your drum sounds analog to make a production is better. Just produce better music, come up with something unique. Make it sound good. It’s nice to have the hardware to have a physical contact or an instrument but really you don’t need an analog gear to produce great music. Just use your ears. Learn your tools

Pure Sonic ah good tip! But if you freeze or render the channel once you have found what you are looking for, you have cleared you RAM again. That way everybody’s happy ;)

@@rfish2 good idea..! although freezing a 5 minute audio file will result in way more megabytes occupied than a tiny sample file =)
