@@dominicgreen4538 Did you read the initial comment, or does your selective interpretation not allow you to absorb context? I live on PEI. In comparison to many other places, it doesn't compare favourably, particularly to BC. Another fact regarding PEI: most people are leaving it, and most people are going to BC. What does that tell you about how wonderful it is on PEI? Yikes!

True that. I will say I find it odd that when I read about PEI on social media everyone seems to love and adore it but all their admiration couldn't be further from the truth. It's just too easy to get stuck in this hellhole and it's certainly not the 'paradise' that all these old birds describe it as.

@@fiftycalibertim9364 Because people travel to PEI during the couple of months when the weather is nice and they think it's paradise. When you are on vacation, everything seems better. Everything else consists of sub-par tourist venues that are closed for most of the year, and lots of summer cottages that are empty the majority of the year. It's not anywhere that you'd want to spend any amount of time, unless you were buying gas so that you could keep driving.

Get ready to be disappointed. I live on PEI, and its most exciting feature is the exit. We moved here from BC, and have hated every single single that we have been here. Yes, we are moving soon. Here's what this video left out: if you Come From Away, the locals will avoid you..unless you're a tourist, then they'll overcharge you; away from the tourist zones, most of the Island is slum-like; most businesses are closed 3/4 of the year; it's expensive to live here; zero wildlife (most of it is extinct); zero nature (it's all farmland that has been poisoned by over a century of poor farming practices); highest cancer rates in Canada; massive drug problem; zero healthcare, as doctors don't want to come to the Island; only exists due to massive transfer payments; a notoriously corrupt civil service and government. It bears utterly no resemblance to anything depicted in these cheery tourist videos.

Great video! Been contemplating moving to PEI for some time and you make the island seem like a really idyllic place with a great community! Would you say that was your experience?
@mangore623
@mangore623 2 жыл бұрын
It isn't idyllic. Far from it, in fact. This video is the equivalent of visiting Disneyland, and then thinking that you know everything about Anaheim. We moved to PEI from BC, and within a day of our arrival, knew that we had made a massive mistake. "Come from away" If you are a CFA, they're not exactly queuing up at your front door to greet you, and this is unquestionably the least friendly province I have ever lived in. The other CFAs say the same thing, have been here for 15-20 years, and still haven't been entirely accepted within their respective communities. Last weekend was two continuous days of 90km/m winds, and driving snow. All the major roads were unusable within a few hours, and guess when the plows started rolling? After the blizzard when the snow removal problem was almost insurmountable. In BC, the snowfall is worse, and they still manage to keep all the major roads going. Most businesses are closed 1/2-3/4 of the year, and guess who keeps all of these people afloat? The rest of Canada with massive federal handouts. Without the federal government constantly bailing, the Island would sink overnight. Oh, yes, and there's corruption on a grand scale in most governmental agencies on the island...by extension of all that lovely money pouring in. Health care? Seeing a doctor is a day-long process. Nature? None. All of the animals you'd find elsewhere in Canada are extinct here, and over a century of poor farming practices means that the soil is poisoned, and little of the natural habitat remains. Highest cancer rates in the country, and the highest population density in Canada.
@dmax64

Also a BC transplant who has been here since 2016. We moved here because of the cheap house prices like most people from other provinces. I have also lived in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario and the native Islanders are indeed only friendly to tourists because they depend on the tourism dollars. They have no use for "outsiders" as they call all non native islanders. Also a fact they have two weather seasons here winter and not winter. The health care system here needs a major overhaul to get yourself a family doctor be prepared to sit on a 2-3 year waiting list. G P's here make the lowest salary in the country not much incentive to practice here. If we had the chance to o it over would we move to PEI I can honestly say no.
@mangore623
@mangore623 2 жыл бұрын
I forgot to mention that no one should rush over here for the inexpensive real estate, and a "simpler" lifestyle. There's a reason why the real estate is so inexpensive: most of it is very old, very poorly maintained, and mostly dilapidated. Imagine just how well-preserved, functional, and insurable a wood house will be that was constructed around the same time that the Charge of the Light Brigade took place. The rest of the housing consists of post war ranchers in various states of (dis)repair. Most of the housing suffers from foundational issues, parameter drainage issues due to foundation issues, structural issues, and roofing issues, and don't forget that most homes draw their water from wells, and sewage networks only exist in the larger urbanized settings. I'm sure living in parts of Africa will yield a simpler lifestyle too, but it shouldn't be the sole motivating factor to relocate somewhere. I've lived a simple, rural, life in northern BC. It's nothing like that over here. Imagine if Mexico was populated by Canadians, and you're getting close to the feeling of simplicity over here. There's "simple" and then there's "backwards/out-of-step". When you combine all this with extremely poor wages relative to expenses (Yes, the cost of living is noticeably more expensive here relative to other provinces), zero opportunities, you can see all the major attractions on PEI in a few hours (most of them will leave you wondering why you made the effort), the awful weather (Huge wind/No wind), and the fact that if you're an outsider, you will remain an outsider, it's not a great place to be.
@dmax64
@dmax64 2 жыл бұрын
@@mangore623 Everything you mentioned is fact. The main reason the older houses are so poorly built is because this province doesn't believe in permits(real estate agent shared that) and god help you if you need legal representation as every native islander is related somehow better to go off island for an unbiaed lawyer. When we purchased our current home I asked the seller(native islander) why it's so important for an islander to know your last name and he said we want to know if your from the island or not. Anyways thanks for the feedback and stay healthy

Alright someone who’s actually born and raised in PEI here and it’s definitely not how they described it. It’s a beautiful island and I have yet to meet someone who has talked poorly about new comers, (not saying that it hasn’t happened, I’m sure it has unfortunately) so I’m very sorry to anyone who’s experienced that type of treatment. We’re also constantly building new houses to keep up with the demand of new comers. And yes, you will have to deal with bad roads. Although I don’t understand why they were so upset about the plows. A lot of these people aren’t actually getting paid for plowing the roads so I’m just thankful for they’re willing to do it. PEI is a perfect option if you’re looking for a quiet place to settle for a while, might not be so great if you’re looking for action or don’t think you’ll be able to comfortably adjust to the country life

Pensacola,FL beaches, according to some, squeak. To me it sounded more like the noise that sometimes happen when you're walking in 2 inches of wet snow.🤷‍♀️

You want to travel 5700 km to see a completely unassuming house that is surrounded by several awful amusement parks? Seriously, it's surrounded by roller coasters, and other crappy tourist traps. It's just down the road from me. Let me spare you the trouble and expense: it's not worth seeing. If you're coming from BC expecting a lot of beauty here, you're going to be disappointed. On a graduated scale from 1 to 10 (10 being fantastic) if BC is a 9, than PEI is definitely a1.

as an islander, I've seen 99% of what is shown in this video which literally proves how small this place is. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful though.

I live on PEI and have been to Kool Breeze Farm a million times. They've never had that amount of good looking fresh produce at one time when I've been there. They obviously knew you were coming....lol.

1. I can see my cottages in the back of the cold dip scene so that’s pretty rad 2. There’s a 99% chance my best friend and I were smoking in the parking lot like right behind yas in that scene😂

Yeah, visiting Green Gables is right up there with the Taj Mahal. I noticed that you didn't recommend all the amusement park rides, and a visit to the haunted house, that are just minutes away. Who can forget the 1:1 scale space shuttle just down from Cavendish too. Really first class fare for any visitor.
