Great drumming man, but the backing tracks are pretty abysmal.
@ColeDockter
@ColeDockter 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Devin! Honestly, it kills me to see so many people not liking the backing tracks! I thought I had these nailed. :) I brought in some friends and they recorded all the DI guitars as close to the original as possible. (Granted, I did bring them in and just throw 50 tracks in their face.) And then, the tone was decided by yours truly using VST's in Cubase. This combined with the time crunch may have lead to some sloppy tracks (and there are some in here I wish I had spent more time on.) My question for you guys that don't like the backing tracks is - why? I was planning a follow up for all of the tracks I missed and don't want to make the same mistake twice. Let me know below what your beef is, be it accuracy, tone, timing, missing lyrics, whatever. I want to improve for you guys. Thank you for your feedback, and I hope you guys come back next week. - Cole
@devinbuchhorn
@devinbuchhorn 6 жыл бұрын
Wow, didn't expect this to blow up. Just to be clear. I LOVE the video and what you are doing with it. Really a great idea, and better playing. I think my biggest beefs are the missed timings and tone. Not all of these are easy to play, that is clear. For me, it was just taking away from your great playing. The tone is also taking away from the sound. You might try actually recording the guitar with an amp then using stomp box sims to try to achieve the tone you are going for. Kinda disappointing that my top comment is something negative. Sorry about that, I am a firm believer in trying to improve everyday. I guess sometimes it isn't always in the nicest way.

Your rudiments are astonishing also. Im an 18 year old drummer that has been playing since I could walk and I see so much of your playing that I wish upon myself to be able to do. Love your videos and I hope do see more. Your content is awesome Cole and your one hell of a drummer. Keep up the awesome work man.

If you're doing a similar video here's some suggestions: Dream Theater 6:00, Toto Rosanna, Jay Z Show Me What You Got, The Violation Fleshgod Apocalypse but yeah, there's too many "legendary" drum parts to mention. I won't even get started talking about Jojo Mayer or Dave Weckl or the rest of them Thomas Lang, Virgil Donati types haha, every drumbeat they play is legendary.

You missed some Death songs with Gene hoglan and Sein reinert ("Flattening of emotions", "The philosopher", "Zero tolerance" "Misanthrope"), Pantera Vinnie Paul ("13 steps to nowhere", "Becoming", "Medicine man"), Mike portnoy ( Honor thy father, 6:00, Metropolis, dance of eternity). By the way, amazing work!

Mike Portnoy is awesome! Dream Theater is not the same without him. Good for him, though - he’ll be known and respected for more than the Dream Theater drummer. ... he got to play with Twisted Sister.

For sure he'll be respected for more than the DT-stuff. I personally like LTE and Transatlantic & more...

I missed Vinnie Paul, i mean he got some pretty badass things like the double kick pattern in becoming and the creativity en each pantera song that you hear, he deserves a place in any drum top :'(

Agreed! Becoming is the song that got me into Pantera when I was in high school and 20+ years it's still one of my favorite Pantera songs.

I’m pretty the time signature for Tool - Schism (number 29) alternates between 5/8 time and 7/8 time
@OEpistimon
@OEpistimon 6 жыл бұрын
You can either count it like that, or count both measures together and have 12/8. But then again, I'm a guitarist, not a drummer, so I don't know which option is better for drummers...

For a moment there...I thought you were going to try Niels solo on Tom Sawyer....I’m glad you didn’t...that man is one of the drumming Gods and we humans just are no match for those like him lol EDIT: That and you don’t have nearly enough drums on that kit to even attempt it lol. All jokin aside tho you got your shit down. I enjoyed this and ur editing was on point. Good shit minding the flow.
