Hydras are mostly upgraded Marines...until the Terran gets stim. Also you can't heal up Hydras, but Marines can be backed by medics...with stim.

Eh. Not really. Hydras deal a type of damage called 'explosive' what that means is they do half damage to small units (like marines) and full damage to larger units (like tanks). Marines do standard damage (full damage vs everything minus armor). And gas is a more critical resource for zerg then Terran. Minerals on the other hand are comparatively plentiful and are only really limited to how many bases you have. It's easier/less impactful to your economic and tech growth building marines then it is building hydras which cost gas. You also mentioned the medic stim thing. Marines are also more of a glass Cannon unit that rely on critical mass and dps. Hydras at least in sc1 are more stand alone. Frequently used to 'bust' a front door of protoss bases and basically just brawling.

Hydralisks can heal. You just need to give them time to or they will burrow. Takes a while to regenerate health though

I wonder how 3-3 vs 0-0 even numbers would go. Seems like the marines wouldn't even need stimpack to walk away with it.

Well, the fact that Hydra in SC2 cost almost 40% more expensive and about twice as powerful against Marines doesn't help much.

Not surprising. SC1 hydras do 50% damage against small units like Marine, and have 2 less damage.

@@lanychabot-laroche135 On the other hand, this is partially compensated by the fact that the hydras are no longer hit-scan. Lots of overkill when you mass hydras against bio.

Hydralisk have always been double powered marines and could match Ghost's range when upgraded. In SC1 I loved used Mass produced Hydralisks and guardians strategy or Hydralisk ultralisk, zerglings and sometimes lurkers. But then the player rolls up with Siege Tanks and Dusts my closely grouped hydralisks trying to take over the map. I would recommend higher tier units to engage them like Goliaths. been a while since I've played so I can't remember what other counters there are.
