This needs WAY more promotion than it gets. I didn't even know Masters existed until a couple months ago and I've been a strongman fan for a good long while now. As all the people who were dominating competitions when I started watching are getting into their 40s and beyond this is exactly the sort of competition I want. I get to see the old boys continue to compete and also watch the new up and comers.

Happy this sport is getting more popular and hopefully the competition is getting paid better. But why is it so many of them are obese? Extra fat doesn’t help, I understand being in a calorie surplus to continue growing in strength and size but you don’t need to be in an extreme calorie surplus just a calorie surplus. Some of the best of the strong men aren’t obese.. minus Eddie lol. Eddie is as way fatter then he needed to be. Nick best isn’t a fat guy; sure he has some extra bad weight but that’s to be expected but when his shirt is off you can see his muscle under a thin layer of fat. Some of these guys look like they have serious beer belly’s. Which could be from high HGH use and over eating. Like I said some of the best strong men have had more lean physics. I don’t know all the champs, Eddie hall which I like Eddie but man he got super fat when he went for that 500KG deadlift. You are stronger when your feeding your body plentiful, but once again that doesn’t mean you have to eat extreme amounts. Just enough so that your body is in a surplus and to make sure your getting all the minerals and vitamins plus the protein to build and the carbs and fats for energy. When I’m trying to get bigger and stronger I still have visible abs, I just start looking fuller and thicker but I don’t eat so much I start store energy (fat) but I eat enough so that my body is growing and not maintaining or losing. If you burn say 2800 calories in a day you only need 2900 to stay on a surplus. I will say this; people only care about protein carbs and fats way to much, yes these are important and easy to keep track of which I never do I just keep a vague tally in my head through the day but you do need minerals and vitamins too. A lot of people over look liberals and vitamins for muscle growth and strength and over all healthy. Magnesium and potassium are crucial for muscle development. Many different amino acids play different roles in muscle development, creatine loading and drinking more water then you think you need. When I started focusing on certain mineral and vitamin consumption through food and supplements and took about twice as much creatine I got unbelievable gains and this was probably 12 years into lifting. I was already in great shape and bigger but focusing on making sure I was getting certain minerals and vitamins (you can look up which ones that help) it made it easier to gain good weight and stay low body fat. Bodybuilding and strength really is understanding body chemistry
