I don’t know if is training or not... but 4 me when you’re facing a good shooter forward like Ronaldo was, The goolkeeper usualy stays more far way from the goal line. To shorten The gap between him and the forward, so The forward have a bad angle to shoot on The goal. But this is a double-edged sword technic. When you’re facing a player like Ronaldo.... He had more than enough ability to shot the ball over the goalkeeper.

About the goalkeeper being so forward… first of all, you have to acknowledge his role is not only defend when the striker kicks. His role is to make the strikers life harder to score. And the easier move for the striker is drible the defender and shoot straight to the goal. And it’s easier if he have loads of space between him and the last defender (keeper). And for that, being forward is the best positioning to block. Who doesn’t play football may think it’s a keeper mistake, mainly because who doesn’t play football doesn’t know how harder is for the striker to kick the ball over the goalkeeper. It’s not an easy move. So the keeper exposes this, instead giving space for the striker to drible and shoot. If you stay put in the goal, it’s much easier for the striker to drible and shoot to score. If you go forward you make this move harder. So it’s somewhat a gamble you have to pick if you’re at that point.
