I listen to Dr Sturm on her YT channel, as well as Dr Dray, and I credit both of them for helping me have excellent skin at age 48. I began listening to Dr Dray first, and she touts the use of sunscreen, obviously. That fits into what I've been doing since I was 15, wearing sunblock every day. But she also taught me the importance of other products, like HA, adapalene and BHA, and how to use them properly. But Dr Sturm really hit home when she dicusses reducing inflammation and potential irritants. Dr Dray of course mentions this frequently, but Dr Sturm's entire skin care philosophy is based on that reduction in inflammation, and I changed my skin care routine dramatically when I began listening to her. My skin really showed an improvement, and I don't actually use any of her products. So some of the "dupes" include Hada Labo premium HA, and Hada Labo Milk as my HA serum and lightweight moisturizer to seal it in. I use either Vanicream or Cerave Night as my "rich" moisturizer a few nights a week. Instead of her powder enzyme cleanser I use Babor enzyme cleanser, it seems to be identical. The biggest change though was that I cut my use of treatments (like my retinoid, BHA, enzyme cleanser) in half. I will only use a treatment about every other day, and I will only use one or the other, never both in a 24 hour period. I also cut my cleansing down... I actually eliminated the double cleanse. I found better results from the water soluble DHC oil cleanser and a wet washcloth than doing a double cleanse at night. And rather than doing extra exfoliation and a mask, my "treat" to my face is to use one of my richer creams over HA. Basically I do less to my skin, not more. If you consider that not only are treatments irritants, but heat, sun, water evaporation, abrasive materials etc are too, then your skin care routine can get simpler real quick when you start minimizing those things. Not to mention doing less helps you keep beneficial bacteria on the surface of the skin. I see people criticizing Dr Sturm left and right, but her basic skin care philosophy goes right along with the majority of dermatologists, and she is not "anti-sunscreen". She can price her products however she wishes, I personally would still use my dupes even if I had unlimited money, but if others want to buy them at current pricing, that's their choice.

Hey Kat! I always feel a bit weird making comments like this because- as you know- this is the internet and most of us don't know anything about anyone else, so there's always that fear of accidentally saying something untoward or inappropriate, etc. You know what I mean? But anyway, I just wanted to say I've been a subscriber for a long time, love your content! We have similar skin types and I actually have a couple of new favorite items based on your recommendations. (Votary! Tata Harper mask and cleanser, etc. All this is just to say that I miss your videos and hope to see a couple new ones soon. Also- hope this goes without saying but have a wonderful Christmas and I wish you and yours the best!

Can’t wait to hear what you think of each of these. Please do an empties on this kit. Also I have now signed up to Net-A-Porter. I hadn’t realised they had an Australian site. There’s a Barbara Sturm winter kit which looks interesting.

Yesss I have ever only bought it as a GWP but I have been surprised at how much product I actually got, it lasted me a pretty long while. I feel soooo confused because there's a lot of skincare which perhaps shouldn't be amazing for my skin that makes my skin feel so hydrated and soft, ingredient composition is so much more complicated to me than I wish it was 🤭 But even buying sets like this seems like it would work out to be a lot less expensive! Do you have a favorite retailer for beauty & skincare sets like this, or do all the bigger ones tend to do them? I'd definitely prefer buying sets with smaller product sizes as a way to try lots of products, especially if they last as long as a month! I have gotten sooo many samples but for me personally they are so small that I only get a few uses out of them and I find I can't properly judge a product that quickly :( I would love to hear how you get on with these though!

Thanks! For more affordable beauty kits, Sephora and Cult beauty have some great priced options with lots of fun products to try. For more luxury, NET-A-PORTER and Liberty of London are my favourites. Also independent companies like MINTD do curated boxes which can go on offer for a really amazing price! I agree with the samples. I feel like either they need to be 28 days worth (a full skin cycle) or just a couple days, as the first shows that the product will actually work for you (ideal!) and the second shows that you won't have a reaction and it will integrate into your routine. But I expect the sample that lasts only a couple of days to be something free at the counter that I can test before investing in a product, not something like a GWP. That's my preference!

Katarina, rewatching your videos love your content so much. Curious if you have tired the Votary Super Seed Serum? I know the oil isn’t your favorite due to it being so heavy, but I was curious about the serum. Thank you!❤️

Yes I have! I like it, but it is quite heavy for me. When I have it, I generally use a few drops to thicken a lighter cream to transition it from summer to winter :)

Really interesting and informative video! I think I was underwhelmed with most of the products as you were. Earlier this year, when I heard so much about MZ Skincare I reached out to them to ask them what percentage of placenta is contained in their MZ Skin Replenish & Restore Placenta & Stem Cell Night Recovery Mask. They actually disclosed it: 0.003% (!) If that's an indication of how they formulate their products it's unlikely that they would contain any therapeutically active ingredients.

That is so fascinating! I'm surprised (and impressed!) they got back to you, whenever I reach out to brands about concentrations they get quite evasive! I appreciate they will share that information! This is really interesting information, thanks for sharing! This was one of the topics of my Farmacy video, where they had rearranged all of the best ingredients from fairly high to quite low in the ingredients list and it just makes you wonder how much of it is included in any valuable concentration then!

Hi! I discovered your channel through Dior nail polishes and so glad I did :) I have a few questions though: Do you still use the Dior nail polishes and did you try some new? Do you still live in Sweden (cuz I am here too :)) What are you working with? Beauty or something else? Thank you so much for your content 🌺

Hey! I still live in western Sweden :) I also still use the Dior polishes, especially the base coat and polish remover. My favourite polishes are from CND though, they last the longest and have a nice range to choose from! I work in R&D, but a different industry (otherwise I would have to disclose any potential conflict of interest!) Glad you like the videos :)

I’ve had mixed feelings on MZ Skincare. Touting themselves as science based, while adding parfum AND linalool to most of their products. That in addition to the marketing and importance they place in their pink/gold packaging is a bit of a turn off for me. I love Cult Beauty and the brands they offer, but as someone that lives in the US, the £ to $ conversion is deceiving when it comes to how much I’m actually saving. Lol it took me a couple of orders to realize. So happy to see you post today! Thank you for the video❤️☀️

Thanks for offering your opinions! I agree with MZ skin, I usually get decent results from the products so I am glad to use them when I receive them in a kit or GWP but they aren't my favourite formulas. I have heard others say the conversion rate of cult beauty isn't the best outside of Europe, which is disappointing to hear! Glad you liked the video :)

I’m not sure if you’re familiar with Emenince Organics, but would love you to review them and hear your opinion about their products. I was introduced to them when I went for a facial and had great results. Bought some products (which I think are pricy, might just be bc I’m in Canada :) ) and have mixed results at home. One product I do regularly use is their exfoliating powder called Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant, but happy to hear if there’s an alternative I should try.

It is so strange that people, who don’t have unlimited budgets and are willing to make frauds like Barbra Saturn rich, are interested in a brand that offers absolutely nothing in terms of effectiveness over most fragrance free brands that actual dermatologists recommend. The skincare industry thrives on people who are gullible and I could never understand how anyone justifies buying mediocre products for such prices. All you have to do is look at those that spend the most on their skincare. Do you think they have better skin? Can they achieve the same results from other brands? Do dermatologists recommend such brands? What do expensive skincare offer other than fancy packages and the illusion of luxury? Wouldn’t it make more sense to buy Baccarat, Lalique or Daum if you want crystals and items that look good on your vanity? Do people really believe non-prescription skincare is as good as the stuff that doctors prescribe? Does La Prairie or La Mer thrive on idiots who market their products better than they could? Do people know ingredients that are found at the drugstore such as sunscreens, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and other effective compound are better regulated than cosmetic grade skincare? And would Dr. Dray who is a dermatologist and has a PhD in molecular biology buy those silly brands? Come on guys, be smart and don’t throw away your hard-earned money on BS.
