Oh man; thank you, thank you for that "memory lane" experience. My dad and I built one from basket fulls of parts bought at Russ Winters in Toronto, Canada. I remember him walking through aisles of floor to ceiling bins made from 2x2 lumber throwing parts into bushel baskets while mumbling "you''ll need one of these, two of those" etc., etc.. It started life as a cream coloured with black wheels Metro Toronto Police machine. I was 15 years old when I applied for my license which was the legal age if your parents signed off and you needed a driver's licence for your job back in the late 50's. The guy at the test center suggested I answer an additional 13 questions and pay a bit more money to go for the full magilla "chauffeur's licence" He stood on the sidewalk and told me to ride around the block. In essence he watched me make two left turn signals while he only heard me going up the back side of the block. I rode that thing for four years through the rest of high school and college until joining the Navy. .

You were lucky or you and your Dad very skilled because Russel Winters specialized in reselling completely worn out Toronto police Harleys at high prices and so the parts would have been worn out if not scrap. Hard to believe you were riding a heavy foot clutch hand shift Hog at 15 so you must be pretty athletic as well. Nice to hear from a fellow Torontonian. (I actually got my 1950 EL in Niagara Falls, tho', it was also ex cop, had a parade throttle and dubious aftermarket foot shift.)

This was one of the BEST videos I've seen, for a short ride. The geography / scenery along with the smooth dirt road was awesome, Not to mention it being done on a "50 panhead. And it sounds great and looks great. Please give "kudos" to the person who did the video. Thank you !!

I had a 1951 61CI pan I paid $750.00 buck for in 1979. I took it apart checked every thing repainted it rode it for a few months and sold it for $1.500.00. I sure wish I had kept it now.

I'd love to find an old bike like that for that price around here in south Tx, most want way too much for their old Harley's.

My 53 Pan has been down since 2005. Heart issues, well my trusted mechanic and friend, changed out my stock Linkert Carb for a S@S Super. Now, I'm outta town he says,, over the phone ,,it runs. I wonder if that new carb is going to put too much stress on that 1200 and blow it up ?!

Why is it that in EVERY single motorcycle video on KZbin they play music and drown out what most people watch the video for.....the sound of the bike in action!!!! Just show video of you riding the bike and all the sounds that this awesome machine makes. I promise you we won’t get bored and click away if there is no music.

Awesome!! Just about to rebuild my 1950 EL 61. Is the luggage rack an original accessory? I have exactly the same one, but I'm not sure if this was a factory option.

In 1952 the hand clutch became an option. In 1957 the hand clutch became standard with hand shift an option. Police models came with tank shift up till the AMF years and then became optional.Discontinued altogether in 1980s.
