This is how I see it about polygyny, Islam is easy, and polygyny is not an obligation. So, if a man finds himself able to be committed in polygyny marriage and that he needs more wives for whatever reasons that are legislated in Sharia and that he fears Allaah, then do so in shaa Allaah. For others who might think that they don't need more wives, and that they're content with monogamous marriage and that's what they're capable of, then in shaa Allaah that's good for them too. Everyone is different, we have different level of taqwa, different capability, and Allaah gives us choices. So, choose which one you think that will benefit you in this dunya and akhira. #Sharia

This is what I am thinking too, but then I read about men saying that all men are naturally polygamous and being in a monogamous marriage is against their nature and will lead to adultery.
@Demurely.
@Demurely. 3 жыл бұрын
Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was married to Khadijah (May Allaah be pleased with her) for 25 years. I believe many from the pious predecessors were not in polygamous marriage. Even some of the Imams were never married. "Being in monogamous marriage is against their nature and will lead to adultery" I don't think it's that simple. What about them then, the ones that I've mentioned above and many other brothers who are in monogamous marriages? How could they manage to control themselves and stay away from adultery? Yes, maybe one of the primary instincts of men is to procreate and I understand why most men dream of having more wives. I think that has to do with the nafs, and in Islam we're taught to control our nafs if we fear Allaah. One can be in and is content with monogamous marriage. It depends on the individual. Maybe he doesn't have that big desire to do so (i.e. polygyny) and he's already occupied with his family, study, and work/business, or even overwhelmed by his responsibilities in the first place that he doesn't even think to have another wife or family.

Eunoia yes thank you I totally agree, I literally thought this too but when I heard many men say it I was like how can I as a woman really know how men are when they say otherwise. But this makes much sense thank you for you explanation
@Demurely.
@Demurely. 3 жыл бұрын
@@ilikefriedchicken6139 Yes, I understand that. Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “I have not left behind me any fitnah (temptation) more harmful to men than women.” It's sunnatullaah that we, women are their weakness. Surely, most men dream of having more wives and they will talk about it. The thing is whether they will make it come true or not, that depends on the individual. If a man said that he's afraid that it would lead to adultery if he's not in polygamous marriage, I think that's nonsense. Where's his taqwa then? How can he say something like that especially when he already has a wife? Why would he think the possibility of adultery in the first place?
@ilikefriedchicken6139
@ilikefriedchicken6139 3 жыл бұрын
Eunoia Yeah I thought that that was nonsense too because many men say that the emotional and physical needs can be relieved by just one wife and that men marrying multiple women is not for lust. But then I read about men saying that men are naturally “wired” for polygamy. This paragraph I’m literally gonna copy paste from thedeenshow.com: Why are men polygamous by nature? The Answer is very simple. This may be a very bitter pill to swallow for many people, especially for those women that come from the Indian subcontinent. However, the reality is that men, by their very nature, are “wired” to be polygamous. If they do not get to practice polygamy in the correct, responsible and ethical sense of the word, they will practice an unethical form of serial polygamy involving mistresses and prostitutes.

She absolutely has many strong points about advocating polygamy, but as I kept listening, I started to think she also gone extreme about saying how it is easy for women to rise up above the jealousy, and how easy it is for women to accept the idea of polygamy when they reprogram their perspectives of men and when they think about it as a united team. There is much more behind the refusal of women to be in a polygamy relationship, one and the first reason could simply be ( the man is actually and for real is not capable of taking such a responsibility) mental, emotional, financial, and physical abilities in the man are things that are rarely to be found in one man so that he can be able to have a polygamy marriage life. This is only one reason Among other reasons that make accepting polygamy much harder than Milhan is describing.
@havingfun462

Exactly that’s my point, I my self not against polygamy but wouldn’t allow my husband to have another wife because of the reason u mentioned…! But if we as men/women as the way she mentioned then happily we could accept men to do polygamy, & I could be the first to accept from my husband to do so… But the thing is if the wife is good enough to accept the polygamy, the husband is mostly not capable of it, & if by chance the husband is capable then the second my corrupt all the things together and starts distraction of the family to begin .. and the reason I am saying this is we as Muslim society the knowledge and the understanding of the rules of Allah are soo low to us… We are mostly ignorant and don’t even know the real rules of marriage life… so the root is to educate pple and prepare and good enough generation who’s capable of the righteous things in order otherwise it won’t work!

I haven’t really seen many comments from the Muslims sisters unless I skipped over them but as probably expected by all the Muslim men I completely disagree. Firstly I’m sure it does happen but quite honestly I don’t think many muslim women go around smacking their husbands and see them as worms so they feel the need to cheat. Secondly the whole polygamy thing if it works for you and your family and the husband can afford it and treat their wives EQUALLY then go for it. But most men can’t do that he will always favor one above another and if he fears Allah and he fears that he won’t be able to uphold his end of the bargain just marry one woman that is on her deen and that you are sure will be a good wife and mother for your kids. But if you think that just because polygamy is halal and that you can marry multiple women only for the sake of your own pleasure because you feel like you will cheat on your wife then I’m sorry but your so far off and remember Allah knows your intentions. The whole thing about we need to spread his seed so we can spread the message of Islam you cannot guarantee that your kids will spread the message of Islam raising your own kids is hard enough let alone raising another woman’s kids if she lives in the same household. It’s very rare that you will find all women to get along I’m not saying it’s impossible but it’s very rare. This sister makes it seem like it’s so simple and that it’s going to be rainbows and butterflies and everyone will get along lets be honest and real there’s a fat chance that will happen. As far as the healthy competition goes we all know it’s not a competition but jealousy that will get you to strive for your husband to find you As attractive as his other wives especially if those wives are younger and haven’t had kids yet. Which is why most men only marry one because once they see what it takes to be a father and husband one I enough. 😊

At one stage in my life, just before a nervous breakdown or as it was happening; I told my husband to get a second wife. He said he knew at that moment that something wasnt right with me, and we laugh about it every now and then. But there are still times when I feel like having a cowife would be beneficial for all our us, if we are a unit she has to have my back, and I have to have hers. A younger scholarly wife with good akhlaaq and beauty I even have the person in mind, haven't seen anyone with such beautiful character like her in today's time, and she loves children. Today female friends can be cold and distant, I don't know how it works, but it would be nice to have a female companion to grow with, laugh with, work with and so on. Perhaps I'm just naive. This is why I always say, looking forward to Jannah in sha Allah, so that I can have good female companions to have wholesome conversations with. This Dunya isn't it. Milhana is very intelligent, I wish she could be my friend. May Allah bless her with a husband the coolness of her eyes and give her many children with Aafiyah. Her insight into the dark side of what young Muslim women today crave for on a much lighter level (male gaze and the likes), is much needed to show these young girls where the entry level 'exploration' could lead to. I'm also a revert, I can thank Allah for protecting me from shaytaan as a young girl who's father was addicted to porn as well. And when becoming a teenager filled with raging hormones. I'm grateful for the full niqaab and hijaab too, I donned that pretty fast and many had objections to it, Muslimahs mainly. Nevertheless, I really appreciate the modesty of Islam Alhamdulillah. Well done everybody ❤️🌹

You guys discussed some solid points about polygamy for 50 minutes but ignored a very important point. It's the financial side. A lot of men are struggling nowadays to marry one woman and raise kids. Rents and house prices are skyrocketing everywhere. You want 4 kids? Oh now you need a bigger apartment that you can't afford. So it's less likely for an average man to say I am gonna have multiple wives and many kids. Our grandparents married at their early 20s or maybe yonger than that despite having simple jobs and low income. But now you get people graduating at 24 ,crawling with a crippling dept and barely able to make a living on their own. And even those who can afford it at younger age they will take the concept of quality of quantity. Like thinking, I'd rather have 1 or 2 kids and guarantee them good education, food and quality of life than having many kids and start sacrificing their wellbeing. Kids nowadays have many needs to fit into the criteria of our modern society. For some reason society is forced to shift in this way whether we like it or not.

Very beneficial. Just one comment regarding the man that chooses monogamy - the Quran states that if you fear being unjust, then marry only one. As much as I may desire having more than 1 righteous wife, I fear Allah in the matter. I fear showing up on the day of judgement with a lopsided body.

My dad want more kids but my mom’s tired she’s around 47 years old I told her if she doesn’t want to she doesn’t have to because I don’t want her to risk her life at that age. Now she told my dad to get second wife I was very angry at my mom for mentioning that to my father. Out of my anger I told my father if he get another wife that will come and disrespect my mom I will cut off your monthly expenses. Inshall Allah today I will call my dad to ask him forgiveness for wanting more Muslim children. I appreciate you guys topic of today. Polygamy might sound nice to someone who has been mistreated and slept around all her life, but to women born in conservative Muslim families, who wait until marriage, it's a seriously disappointing and demeaning area. Why? Because of one basic fact mentioned in the Quran: men cannot do justice between wives. Infact, it is the only halal act that is openly discouraged in the Quran, something that doesn't even apply to divorce and slavery. IT IS MUSTAHABB (MERITORIOUS) TO HAVE ONLY ONE WIFE ACCORDING TO THE MAJORITY OF SUNNI SCHOLARS OF JURISPRUDENCE. This is the standard ruling in the Hanbali school. Al-Mardawi al-Hanbali has said in al-Insaf: ‎(وَيُسْتَحَبُّ أَيْضًا : أَنْ لَا يَزِيدَ عَلَى وَاحِدَةٍ ، إنْ حَصَلَ بِهَا الْإِعْفَافُ ، عَلَى الصَّحِيحِ مِنْ الْمَذْهَبِ ... قَالَ ابْنُ خَطِيبِ السَّلَامِيَّةِ : جُمْهُورُ الْأَصْحَابِ اسْتَحَبُّوا أَنْ لَا يَزِيدَ عَلَى وَاحِدَةٍ) “And it is also meritorious to not exceed one (wife) if he can ensure his chastity by that according to the correct opinion of the (Hanbali) Madhhab... Ibn Khatīb al-Salāmīyyah said: The majority of the companions (in the Madhhab) are upon the opinion that it is meritorious to not exceed one (wife).” And according to many scholars, having one wife is actually Sunnah. In al-Rawd al-Murbi`, Imam al-Bahūtī expounds upon the principle in Zād al-Mustaqni` “It is Sunnah to marry one”: ‎(ويسن نكاح واحدة ، لأن الزيادة عليها تعريض للمحرم، قال الله تعالى: {وَلَنْ تَسْتَطِيعُوا أَنْ تَعْدِلُوا بَيْنَ النِّسَاءِ وَلَوْ حَرَصْتُمْ} [النساء: 129]) “And it is Sunnah to marry one (wife) because more than that exposes one to harām. For Allah the Most High has said: {And you will never be able to do justice between your wives no matter how bad you want to..} [Qur’an, al-Nisa’ 4:129]” The harām referenced here is injustice to one’s wives for which we would be held severely accountable for before Allah. But this view is not limited to the Hanbalis. ).) “And it is preferable to limit one’s self to one (wife), even though more is permitted. This is due to (Allah) the Most High saying: ‘And if you fear that you can not do justice (to more than one), then (marry) only one...’”

You're so right. But ultimately men are weak when it comes to women so they will find all sorts of justifications as to why polygamy is an amazing thing.
@BKS0
@BKS0 2 жыл бұрын
It’s hard to say marrying 1 wife is the sunnah, when the prophet (PBUH), Abu Baker, Omar, Othman, Ali (RA) married multiple wives. To say it is demeaning to women is not something any Muslim should say. We need to be careful from the ideas that slip into our minds from the media that promotes Feminism and other ideas. If we don’t understand something in the Deen of Allah we say: “we hear, and we obey” And Allah knows best
@WhiteDove3511
@WhiteDove3511 2 жыл бұрын
@@BKS0 our Prophet pbuh, abu Bakr and the rest of the companions were already late in their lives and had already married multiple wives when the ayah limiting to 4 was revealed, and Allah swt made it permissible to keep what had already occured. And the opposition to polygamy is permitted in Islam as its not fardh (mandatory) or even mustahab (recommend), rather it is mubah (lowest of permissible with severe punishment if conditions are not met). Our Prophet pbuh himself forbade polygamy on his sons in laws as he said it would hurt his daughters, and it became a part of nikkah that any woman can forbade her husband from taking another wife while married to her if she chooses to.
@BKS0
@BKS0 2 жыл бұрын
If you refer to authentic sources you will find out that Sahabah kept marrying even after the Ayat limiting the numbers of wives to 4. As for Imam Ali (RAA), it is true he didn’t marry anyone while Fatimah (RAA) was alive, but he married a total of 8 women after her death (not more than 4 at a time obviously). My point is that Islam and feminism do not go hand in hand all the time, and any Muslim should be careful about over committing to feminist ideals because it eventually can lead the person to leave the Religion if he wasn’t careful. Salam Alaykum

The sahaba were REAL men, who faught wars, defended territories, learned skills such as archery and personal combat, and were honest and successful businessmen with highest standards of moral values, in addition to being exceptionally strong and endurant. When any of their companions died in war, they married his widow regardless of her age n number of children Any woman would marry a man like that. But the males of today aren't even a fraction of men they were supposed to be. Hence the disgust.

I agree with the sister and would like to add that her personal view seems like polygamy is a must, whereas it is not. Its totally fine for one man and woman to build a strong relationship and family with eachother if they choose to do so, I also believe polygamy should be discussed by man and woman before they decide to marry so they are both clear and there will be no shocks later on.

But the true is that women/girls are not angels. They cheated a lot or sometimes a lot will get married while being in haram relationship to get his money and leave him . Plus , they don't talk about on how women should treat their husband or about women responsibilities
