Thank you for mentioning that people with thin hair can rock locs! I see so many people discouraged because of this. I have always had thin hair and it hasn't been a problem for me. :)

I’m glad I came across your videos. I just got a partial for the first time two weeks ago and learning so much! I’ve been wanting them for a few years now, and I honestly was a little afraid of the questions I may get like you mentioned in the beginning part of the video, but if one actually reads into the history of dreadlocks, they have been apart of so many cultures in their own way for centuries! Otherwise, I have gotten so many compliments and can’t wait to get another two rows! 💜🩷✌️☮️

I wash and condition my locs weekly, and have not had an issue. This maybe because I am African American. I talked to an African American Loctitian and she said after they have been locked for a while or if they have interlock, and instant locks they should condition them as often as they wash. Even though I disagree with the general statement not to condition I did really enjoy your information.

Thanx for doing these videos. I’m new at extensions, especially putting them on myself. I just spent the entire day putting them in. I did mess up the back but I can hide it, then probably have my 17 yr old granddaughter do the back for me. I LOVE These dreads. They are waves right now. But in time they’ll be like dreads. I just want to be able to take care of them. They are synthetic

In my experience it's a myth that you should only wash them once a week. I mean, I get it, my ex had locks down to her calves and that's a lot of work for small hands, lol. But I wash mine almost every day. I've taken to just using dish soap and find that they dry quicker than with shampoo, and feel cleaner. If I'm really dirty I'll use Dawn dish soap (the blue stuff). That shit will wash out motor oil or whatever. It's many as phuck, lol. Yeah, my hair is still a little wet when I go to sleep sometimes but they're dry in the morning, and never smell bad or get moldy (and I live in a school bus by a river where everything molds if you don't keep up on it, lol). My ex was always worried about her hair getting wet, and wouldn't go swimming often times because of this, which is lame, imo. I think part of her problem was using too many products and different shampoos that will leave residue. And she didn't wash them enough regularly, with dish soap, lol.. I know a guy who uses laundry soap, lol. Haven't tried that yet, dish soap works great, and I have freeform dreads and a few of them a pretty phunkin phat. Also, this is my second set of locks, and I learned the first time not to use Dr Bronners, it'd leave a waxy like residue in my hair. Everyone's got different levels of oil and grease in their hair, so my method may not work for you. But dish soap FTW.

Loc'd hair isn't matted or twisted hair. My locs are not matted. Wax and conditioners are bad for locs. Locs can be changed at any time. Locs dont take a long time to dry. Products for loc'd hair are terrible. Palm rolling is a bad idea, because you have to know how to palm roll. Rubbing the locs is not palm rolling. Crochet is a terrible idea. Interlocking and crochet just puts holes in the loc. Loc's should never ever feel heavy. Checking to see if locs are thinning at the root can cause that heaviness and pain. Re-twisting and crocheting will thin the loc. It's best to leave yor locs alone sometimes. We are always going to have loose hairs especially at the root because hair is growing. Leave it alone or wrap near-by loose hairs around the loc with water spritz. It will loc up.

I made a nazarite vow about 2.5 years ago. Part of the vow is to not get a haircut. Around the two year point i got my first free form dread. That was this past November. It's now May, and I have a total of seven free form locs now. Locs wasn't my goal. When they first started forming I would comb them out, but they kept forming, so I let go of the comb and take it as Yah's (Jah's) will for me. I was using conventional shampoo and conditioner until about two weeks ago and i was still locking up. I've recently switched to dread shampoo. Well see how it goes. The shampoo is the only thing Ima do to influence locking.

Totally able to comb them out I've had dreads 5 times.. it does ruin the hair alot of the time leaving it frizzy and lifeless. However that's just my super thin BLEACHED hair. So I have short hair now from removing the dead frizzy ends. 😅

Thank you so much for the video, it really encouraged me to go for locks! I'm starting slow, I have few of them under my hair, but I have a question/concern... They are quite new, like 2 weeks or so, but some of them are kind of standing out, which is really annoying and I'm afraid they will stay like that and I will look loke E.T. :D Will they settle down after some time? Or can I help it somehow? :)

Hiya Liz! You asked for a little about us on the other video so I'm gonna do that here lol First I don't care what anyone has to say about my hair. It's my hair and I'll do what I want. I'm almost 50 years old and I finally for my dreads on october 26th. I was gonna ask you about how to manage that. I have thin hair with dreads. I do wash once a week. So I have a partial set I guess I have an undercut and the crown and top of my head are dreaded. I also bought 30 human hair dread extensions because I wanted length because I only had like 7 to 8 inches to start. I love the girl who initially did them here in ND its hard to find someone who really knows what they're doing. I'm at a loss cause I will want that first maintenance. Right now I'm trying to keep the new puppy from trying to play with them lol

heya, i'm interested in knowing how you keep your locs soft. i don't use conditioner (mine are 7 yrs now) but i do use black soap to wash them. i live in the city and have hard water coming out of my pipes. i have naturally dry curly hair anyways but my locs have gotten very dry lately. i tried doing an oil treatment and it was a disaster, my hair does not absorb oil well. i bought a huge bottle of aloe vera water and added rose water to it and started spraying my hair with that, but i would LOve to hear some other suggestions

@@sarahtonen4873 well depends if the texture of your hair is not very coarse or straight like if you have white texture hair I'm not sure but if you have really coarse hair or black texture hair id suggest using Shea butter it works great

Hello there! Its nice to see this content out here, however i would like to give my humble opinion on the section of Terminology. Dreadlocks and Locks are different physically, aesthetically, historically and philosophically... on that note they cannot be all the same thing Im not going to make a huge explanation about this, theres a lot of information about it now a days. Otherwise i think you doing a good job! Peace and prosperity upon you...

Late reply, sorry! I personally don’t, but not for any reason other than I’m lazy/low maintenance with my hair. I’ve often heard of people using rose water on their locks! I also have some dollylocks refreshening sprays (water + essential oils) that are minty (tea tree, peppermint, etc) to be soothing/relieving for your scalp! And conditioning oil (not a spray🤷🏼‍♀️) occasionally on my hair to help with dry/brittleness from the bleach!
