Dear Lacey. Talking about Jazz is like talking about standards. Are there any "original interpreters" of these standards? Would you say that Frank Sinatra made a cover version just because he interpreted a song that someone else interpreted beforehand? No, we don't think so. Frank Sinatra made some gigantic interpretations of songs that had been interpreted by other artists before. But he gave something different to the music. That is why we don't think that we should talk about "covers" but "interpretations" instead. Listening to a different version of a famous song gives the song a new flavor, a new dimension. Therefore you should judge the interpretation and decide if, to you, it's good or bad. But not judge because it's a "cover" or not. Thanks for your comment.
