The snow prank can now work in all editions in the new 1.17 update, with powdered snow. First, with a bucket, collect powdered snow from a snowy biome. Make sure you have leather boots so you don’t sink in. Second, make a hole as big and deep as you want and fill it entirely or only the top of it with powdered snow.
