As part of the UAE Embassy's 50 Years | 50 Faces campaign, Yousef Al Otaiba reflects on his lifelong journey leading up to becoming Ambassador of the UAE to the US. The 50 Years | 50 Faces stories highlight narratives from Emiratis and Americans and are featured on the UAE-USA United campaign website.
His story in America began in 1991, when he enrolled at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. It was here that he joined the men's soccer team and developed a true passion for sports and philanthropy through community engagement.
Fast forward to present day, Ambassador Al Otaiba has used these passions to help children in disadvantaged communities across the US. Through the UAE Embassy's Community Soccer Program, he has funded and launched new soccer fields and training programs in major cities including Los Angeles, Dallas and Chicago.
Beyond the embassy's soccer initiative, he actively serves the Special Olympic Board of Directors to support and empower people with intellectual disabilities. Furthermore, he has stepped forward to host both the Emirati women's hockey and soccer team during their national tours of the US.
