When your out there running a top speed run trim the motor up a bit and you will get less hull in the water creating less drag and a smoother ride and it will run way faster. When your up on plane you notice how like 3/4 of the boat is touching water. That’s robbing speed. But it’s not a race boat. Just a tip!

If replacing the water pump impeller doesn't cure the heating issue, it's possible you could have some crud inside the water jackets in the engine. I think a fresh water pump will work wonders. Replace it at least every other year if not each boating season. As for the fuel primer, get a new one. Marine stuff is not forgiving and does cost $$$. Keep the old water pump impeller for a spare just in case, and an extra set of sparkplugs is a good idea too. Looks like you got it sorted out pretty good now! BOAT = Bring out another thousand! Thanks for a cool video, Joe!

It’s gotta be nice having outboards ran in fresh water only. Around here, most have been ran in the salt out in the Puget Sound and that reeks havoc on them after awhile.
@riccochet704 Жыл бұрын
Good job on the water pump. Even though the old one didn't look bad it probably wasn't getting a good seal, maybe on the base plate. That can cause it to not build pressure, which means it won't overcome the poppet valve tension. I've had brand new pumps right out of the box be bad.

When putting the decals on, you spray the soapy water first, then lay the graphic down to help give you the option to position as well as get bubbled/creases out, then you can pull off the top layer. Spraying water on the top layer plastic to remove it doesn't do anything.

Great videos... I may ditch those zip ties on the fuel line in favor of some some spring metal clamps or stainless hose clamps. Also, trimming the water pisser hose on the outboard may give you a better visual from your seat? Seems to be running great, good job.

Love all the advice from you outboard guys, helping a young man out. In the future, you may want to update your prop. Could help with performance. Side note, try not to forget to trim up the engine when pulling the boat out of the water. Dragging the boat up a concrete ramp, with the engine down will mess up your prop and shaft. Don't ask how I know that. 😂

A week after a guy bought my inboard/outboard SeaRay, he called me wanting to know if I knew who could work on the lower end and fiberglass. I had showed him how to lift the trim before pulling out and the lowering it to drain the water out and lifting it again. He forgot to lift it before leaving. He went ripping down the extremely rough road to the boat ramp. I always drove about 30 and he said he was going 65. Lower end caught the road several times. Boat was destroyed. He spent $12000 to take the boat out twice, once on the day he bought it and once on the day he destroyed it. I had told him to get insurance, but he laughed and said only fools bought boat insurance.

Good job on it. Good luck with it catch some big fish. When you get the boat up to speed start trimming up your motor to bring the bow down. You will see a little more speed as well.
@eagle777dh Жыл бұрын
Trimming up makes the bow go up. To much up and the bow will bounce up and down to much down and the bow will plow. Correct trim and the bow will cut through the ripples and only bounce a couple times on the bigger waves and smooth out on its own. A short reverse after going through weeds most times will clear the weeds from the lower unit. The groves on the plate and impeller cause cavitation in the pump making it lose volume and pressure.

With a garden hose hooked up to it it don't even need a pump with that the proper way to test it out of the water is let the motor down in a tank I messed with folks all my life I thought everyone knew that you can hook a hose up to anything and it will come out of the places it should until it's idling or running in a tank is the true test of the water pump

There's a reason for the saying, Bust Out Another Thousand. Always something. Lol. Good call on the water pump. Forgot to comment on the last video. Believe they sell rebuild kits for the trim. Once the boat is up on plane, play with the trim. There's a sweet spot. Too far either way and the boat will slow down and the motor sound will change. In the sweet spot, that motor should sing. Listen to it.

Speaking from experience you do not hook a garden hose up to a motor that pushes water through it no matter if the pump is good or bad. He's giving wrong information to test the water pump at the motor should be submerged in water all the water hose is is pushing it forcing it through their that's no test the motor has to be in the water without a water hose to test the pump it might work but that's not the right way

Older outboards need alot of attention due to the lack of use and ethanol in the gas all rubber or plastic parts degrade or get damaged. Best use ethanol free gas it cost more now but the damage ethanol does it cheaper in the long run to use ethanol free. I have 1992 johnson 150 2 stroke these engines are tuff as nails. Have fun with it great to go out fishing with your dad best time you will have.
@ArroEL922 Жыл бұрын
At 22:26, a better idea would be to rotate lower unit/shaft 90 degrees to set them horizontal. Then put on the outer housing. That way, you could see that the two rubber seals/o-rings remained in place with no part of the outer/lower one shifting out of place. And in this position, they are less likely to shift out of place.

Trim up wiper seal.& That outboard motor is built for racing. It might have the blocker back inside of it witch is called A power valves. Usually racing heads they're taken out for performance& speed output reasons alone. Witch will protect you from blowing that motor up anyways if it has been put back into it over the years. It was Bored out to be able to do race to though. So it's not A weak outboard motor by no means at all. If you we're to adjust the fuel/ air mixture 🪛 screw 1/4 turn either way it's not be turned it should give you more throttle output & speed take off response to Joe. I recommend adding in some marine 360 sta-bil fuel treatment into you fuel for it to.And along with some seafoam mixed half& half then you just add the regular per gallon ratio into your gasoline squeeze pump boat fuel tank. Dog food dry bag., or canned with help out with ketching some fish when it's hot out to Joe.
