I picked up a 330xi that was sitting for years, drove it home with NO battery after jumping it, also had low coolant( blown radiator) blown power steering and every check engine light was on or flashing, it shifted great so I figured it would be a good buy. It was also full of mold and took a week to clean, still drive it (2 years later) love the car. M54 ftw

I nabbed a 325i mechanic special for 2K. Ended up having to redo the whole cooling system, vacuum lines, crankcase and oil filter housing gaskets, CCV system, thermostat, water pump, intake boots, intake gasket, MAF sensor, sparkplugs, and coil packs. Was a great learning experience and she's been driving like a dream since.
@DayOffDIY2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like all the usual suspects on these engines, but the beautiful thing is you rarely have to crack into the head gaskets on these engines and also I’ve never seen any rod bearing failures or much of valvetrain issues, they stay tight and have such a long lifespan!
@Nathan_Johnson77232 жыл бұрын
If a new ccv doesn’t fix the issue you can run a vacuum line from a port on the back of the intake to the little vacuum nipple on the ccv that’s got a plug on it. This adds vacuum to the crankcase to help the oil rings seal up better. It’s called the 02 pilot mod if you wanna look it up
@DayOffDIY2 жыл бұрын
I’ll try the CCV this week, or test crankcase pressure at the cap at least. I’ve never heard of that tech! That’s next level!!! Thanks for that nugget of info.
@Nathan_Johnson77232 жыл бұрын
@@DayOffDIY no problem just don’t open the oil fill cap while it’s running or it can pull oil up the through the dipstick tube. You can install a one way check valve to prevent this.

Did you check crankcase ventilation valve and cleaned it? If it's not that put ATF and some brake fluid inside pistons, let it sit for 2 days or so, extract it out, change the gaskets and the oil and oil filter. The rings might just be stuck.
@DayOffDIY2 жыл бұрын
Crankcase could definitely be the culprit! I’m going to check crankcase pressure this week through the oil cap and see if it’s failed. Could be a chance it’s it. The smoke has cleaned up since
@iGAGGA252 жыл бұрын
I would also think that the Crankcase ventilation system (in German we call it "KGE", you can find many forum threads if you search for E46 330i KGE etc...) needs to be changed. BMW owners say it should be changed about every 30000km - 90000km.

Guys I have a serious issue. So my car,a bmw 325i manual, was giving me the low oil pressure light for a while, would come on constantly then come off almost immediately after and would only come on during hard braking but never during actual driving, I never had an issue with performance, so I figured it was the sensor. I changed the oil a week later, let it be known the engine was very low on oil, but as soon as I changed it, it idles a lot smoother, no more oil light,It’s a lot quieter and performance has definitely improved, but my friend is telling me that because of the low oil pressure, my engine is bound to blow up. Wtf do I do?
@DayOffDIY2 жыл бұрын
The low oil light sounds due to the low oil level you had. It’s possible it could’ve caused damage from the oil pump going dry for little bits of time but it doesn’t mean it’s GOING to blow up. I would inspect the oil filter next service for any metallic material and if it’s clean, then I wouldn’t worry about it and go about business as usual

@@DayOffDIY ok thanks lol yeah I’m just very worried about that I’m hoping nothing got damaged. I love this car to death

If there’s no more oil light and the filter is clean I would assume you are okay!

Never... Never start a car who sit for a long time with old fuel in it.
@DayOffDIY2 жыл бұрын
Good point, what’s the reasoning? Bad fuel? Plugging fuel filter?
@L888-z6j2 жыл бұрын
@@DayOffDIY Yes, fuel can be very bad in 1-2 years. Here in Europe, the new E10 fuel lasts only about 3-6 months(thanks for the ethanol mixture)
@darklegion77802 жыл бұрын
@@DayOffDIY Not only because the vehicle will not operate as it should, but also because bad gasoline can cause damage to the internal engine components as well as produce a gummy residue that could create blockages in the fuel line.
