Wow. New subscriber. Just aquired a 2005 e60 (M54 engine) and even watching you fix the N52 e90 is has inspired me and given me some confidence to try and fix my bmw the most i can. Unfortunately I need a cool snap on torque wrench like you!

I had no idea replacing the reservoir was a maintenance item. The PS pump on my 2001 E53 was making a subtle growl but the fluid was relatively clear. With almost 200,00mi on it I figured that (once I learned there was a damn filter in the thing) it was time to replace the reservoir. I could not get the extractor tube down the suction hose due to the sharp bends in the M54 placement of it, so I pulled out as much as I could with it. For M54 in E53 put plenty of absorbents over the alternator so it doesn't get soaked with ATF when removing the old unit. I did not purge the old fluid out and topped it up with fresh fluid after starting the engine and cycling the steering wheel lock to lock (the old fluid was till clear). Seems better now. The old reservoir must have had a slow leak because it was always getting oily and dirty. Hope the new one holds up better. Anyway, glad I stumbled across this video otherwise I would never have known it was a maintenance thing.

This is gonna be great to watch! You’ve got your work cut out for you for sure! Just a thought…..I KNOW you’re an OEM purest but have you thought about reaching out for some aftermarket sponsors! You mentioned the headlights….my E60 had some killer aftermarket headlights from Bavgruppe and I would think they’d be more than willing to send you a pair for this restoration (saving you a ton of money)!

Love your videos, you got a new sub. Too bad I didn't see the giveaway until way after, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching the resto/repair vids and the OC one. Keep it up.

Had a 2006 325xi got in it last year, started it and all the lights on the instrument panel came on and the car had a surging idle. Both the front and rear passenger side foot wells had water standing in them, wheathertech mats were full. Ended up pulling the entire interior out as well as the passenger rear door card. It was dry but I put new butyl on the moisture barrier and reassembled. Waited till it was pouring and went out to check it , no leak there but found the leak, front passenger sunroof drain. Puller the headliner and all the upper interior trim. Found the drains under the car, squeezed them and they opened up. Checked everything again, waited for rain, all good. Spent a few hours reinstalling the interior, cleared all the codes and gave the car to my son and bought a 535 x drive.

I recently bought a basket case of an 335i E93 with the N54. It was running with 137,000 on it. Transmission is good too. Although there’s a seal above the valve body that will make you think you need a transmission. Including a CEL and limp mode. Good video. I actually turned on notifications so I can follow content on this car.

How do I enter your giveaway? I have been down on my luck with vehicles. I fell asleep and hit a pole at 100mph. I spent 1 month in intensive care, my jaw was wired shut I had spinal fusion in my neck along with other broken vertibreas and a handful of bones. God helped me climb out of the vehicles rear window before becoming unconscious. 1 yr later somone hit me on the highway and I totaled my used honda without full coverage. I drive my wife's car to work because I have a 1 hour commute and my wife is driving a barley held together 1997 jeep that I replaced just about every part on but it's still a death trap.we have 8k left in hospital bills and no money in the bank. I pray everyday that the cars don't break down. I have photos of the nissan that I hit the pole in and you wouldn't believe that I lived so I guess I could say I did have good luck.

I live in the desert. We do not use anything on the engine or tires because it collects dust and makes it worse in a day. Every once in a while you need to just to bring the black back out but you have to wash it in a couple days

If the fluid is clear and bright red, and there's no leaks nor any whiny/growling noises from the pump, probably not necessary.

When you apply sealant to the oil housing gasket, do you run the risk of contaminating the oil or coolant? Please let me know. I'm thinking of doing this job next week. Thank you.
