I'm the same. The only thing is when it's time to liquidate it'll be extremely hard when you know how many hours it took you to think and purchase these special coins. That's why I think buying the most liquid bullion is preferable and do not fall in love with the metals.

I bought a small box of trinkets at a yard sale over the summer. I found a gold coin in a plastic protective case in the bottom of the box. It was a $50 gold buffalo coin but under the face of the chief it says "copy" in small letters. I was just wondering if someone could tell me about the coin.

Gold Buffaloes are my favourite bullion coin by far and I'm trying to get one of each year. So far, I have $600 worth, with two 2006, a proof and BU, 2007, proof only and then I am missing 2012, 2016 and 2018 to 2020. They are not that easy to pick up in Canada so the going has been slow and the premiums are now higher than Maples, Britannias and Kangaroos, which are stiff competitors. The majority of my gold is more the collectible variety, like 5-9's, which have much lower mintages and older European gold. AGE's are not as popular outside of the United States due to taxes and lower fineness.

For example, the Lunar series. The increase in value has also been extremely good in recent years. But now I've become hot on golden buffaloes, yes they are something special, absolutely. I love the gold buffalo too, I even bought some silver buffalo rounds, but as far as the eagles go, since they changed the design, the best coins to get are the last of a series, and the first of a series, and I noticed that the 2021 type 1 has gone up already. But an Ed Moy proof 70 ultra cameo 2020 Buffalo is really something to behold.

I want to buy some gold, but I think the price is too high and it will likely correct big like it did less than a decade ago and lose a lot of money. The last time it peaked at $1900, it dropped to $1100 in less than 2 years. Gold and precious metals in general are highly volatile. The time to buy gold or silver is when it's cheap and nobody wants it. Maybe I will take the risk on 1 Gold coin and be prepared to risk losing $600 or $700 on it.
