@thecianinator8 жыл бұрын
+xcrimsonlegendx Not just that. They gut the Japanese consoles, so they can play Japanese games, and build a Four Score (which is a rare accessory that's sold separately) right into the unit. They also give it stereo sound, S-video, and VGA video, which the original didn't have. That makes it look and sound better than was ever even possible before. And you can get it with an HDMI port built in too. Normally, if you hook an NES up to a TV with HDMI, you have to plug the NES into a converter box, which causes a delay between when you press a button, and when something happens in the game. But with the built in HDMI port on this console, that doesn't happen, and it also gives it even better sound quality.

+thecianinator NES came with composite cables right out the box tho. Surely any modern tv has a yellow and red input plug. See i dont want my games to sound better or look better than before. I want to enjoy them for what they were. This is the reason i got a 1st gen Genesis when i could have gotten a more modern gen 3 or one of the new offerings. I dont want better graphics, i dont want better sound (not that any chip can beat 1st genesis sound chip) i dont want smoother gameplay. I want the same experience i had when i was 7, especially seeing that after literally thousands of hours of gametime any slight difference becomes a glaring one.

This is overpriced as hell, especially since it doesn't play SNES games. There are NES/SNES combo systems for 50$, why cant this do both for 500$? Hyperkin Retron 5 is 160$ and can play S/NES/GENISIS/GB/C/A, as well as imported S/Famicom and Megadrive games. It may not look as pretty but its more practical, I don't get why anyone would waste 500$ on an NES clone.

***** The RetroN 5 literally has all the same components as this, plus more. Ability for multiple controller types, as well as having an SD slot as a way for them to release bug fixes, the ability to play games in 9 formats, Even has the HDMI output. RetroN 5 really has this thing beat.

@mchevre9 жыл бұрын
I really don't understand why anyone would want to play NES games via an HDMI cable on an HD TV. 8-bit games look best on CRT TVs, because that's what they were made for. Not even considering the button-display lag effect that happens sometimes with HD and NES, just the appearance alone is so much better on a CRT because the 8-bit pixelated blocky effect is smoothed out to appear more advanced than it was. HD exposes the primitiveness of 8-bit graphics in a way that was never originally intended to be seen. I don't get it. Seems like anyone who played them in the CRT era should know and prefer CRT for retro games. It's like, of course, the only real purpose for CRTs these days, but a purpose nonetheless.
@prosincr9 жыл бұрын
Because everyone has CRT TV's.
@justinhandler16059 жыл бұрын
The whole point of this product is for there to be a product that works on your hdtv and blends into you're setup. Anyone buying this isn't buying it with lag and lack of scan lines in mind.
@N64Joey9 жыл бұрын
The system comes with lag correction software inside... So lag isn't a problem... And I have CRT's but there too big for my apartment. So that's why I'd much rather have this. Sao I can use my 40" Samsung 3D TV.
@papertreehouse8 жыл бұрын
+MrGoat You hit the nail on the head. Not even scan line emulators can approximate the effect a good CRT. The only useful feature this kit provides is RGB, and self modding a pre existing NES to be RGB compatible is far more affordable than this overpriced over polished tat.
@CheekyChan8 жыл бұрын
+MrGoat I grew up playing my NES, SNES and genesis on CRT TV's, still have some specifically for testing old consoles, and even though you're correct about most of what you're saying, I don't think seeing the games in all their blocky detail make them look any worse, I actually think it looks better, I could see the blockyness clear as day on any TV I used even my SNES on, I don't know if we just had decent TV's through the years or what but it basically looked the same and I still enjoy playing these games on my NES/SNES/Genesis hooked up through RF on my TV or playing them emulated on my PC and prefer the sharp crisp look of them being emulated, over HDMI to my HDTV's instead and don't use the ridiculous scan line emulation options. And the biggest reason? We all have HDTV's now, no one wants to lug out a heavy ass CRT just to play their NES/SNES/Genesis on. But I think the price for this thing is ridiculous, it blows my mind as to why they'd expect people to pay $500 for one of those when most NES's can actually be converted from RGB right from the graphics processor to a digital output and there's plenty of documentation on it. If they were actually rebuilding NES main boards from scratch, I could see the justified price, but they're gutting systems which means they're ruining the market for NES's by buying a bunch of them and destroying them to put into these aluminum cases.

500$ for that? when theres the retron 5 that plays NES, Famicom, SNES, Genesis, Gameboy and Gameboy advanced....for half the price of this
@Ampera_8 жыл бұрын
Retron 5 is a piece of crap. You don't get a real console experience unless you use the real console. This uses real hardware, so while not as good as a stock NES, it's better then a Retron 5. Also stolen emulators.
@TheJustin9058 жыл бұрын
Communist Ralph you sound like a person that has never used the retron 5....the retron5 doesn't steal emulators you have to own the cart or it doesn't work. plus the retron converts it to HD with the games and you can use all original controllers on it
@Ampera_8 жыл бұрын
Justin Smith There were accusations going about that the Retron 5 stole most of it's emulators without sufficient credit. The system doesn't duplicate the feel of an original system. The thing is that it's a fake, and fakes, no matter how good they are, are not as good as the original and never better. You don't get the feel of sticking a cart into the toaster and pushing it down, the frustration of having it not work, and then the ultimate and extended joy of it finally turning on. And the upscaling is just the thing. You don't get the soft NTSC/PAL look, the creamier colours, and the nice feel of the analog signal. The sound is too crisp and doesn't have the accents of the original system. I have seen a Retron 5 before, it is too perfect, too crisp, too clear. It's not an original system and all you can do while playing it is feel the fake. For this is why we collect old consoles, this is why we keep them around. They deliver an experience that cannot be duplicated, something that has it's own unique touch be it an NES, Genesis, SNES, N64, or even a PC. You can't duplicate it. If I wanted crisp, easy, perfect, I would download an emulator and start pirating away. It is cheaper, easier, and with less hassle. It has a pixel perfect quality and the keyboard allows a decent tactile experience. But I don't and you don't either. A real thing is better then ANY forgery, ANY reproduction, ANYTHING. I won't even want the new NES Nintendo is making for this reason. There is pleasure in working hard to get something to work, there is love in knowing you are using the same thing people used to do, It gives nostalgia even if you weren't there to witness it. Sorry for the big TL;DR text, but I have no other way of stressing the point. The Retron 5 is nice, but not NEARLY as good as a real thing.
@TheJustin9058 жыл бұрын
Communist Ralph Again you sound like someone that has never played the retron 5 "The system doesn't duplicate the feel of an original system. The thing is that it's a fake, and fakes, no matter how good they are, are not as good as the original and never better. You don't get the feel of sticking a cart into the toaster and pushing it down, the frustration of having it not work, and then the ultimate and extended joy of it finally turning on" trust me i've had a ton of problems with the game carts working on the retron 5. I have a regular nes, snes etc and I like playing on the retron 5 because like i said it converts it to HD and lets you use the original controllers. not to mention its more convenient than having every orignal console hooked up looking like shit on an HD TV. Theres a reason why the retron 5 sold and this thing didn't

Justin Smith That's still the thing. It's not the same as a real console. Agree or not, that is why there is a legion of people lining up to get great collections of those old games.

I got to meet the owner of Analogue a little while ago. He was a super nice guy and the Analogue NT really is top of the line. That NES controller is actually a brand new, authentic, Nintendo controller too. They found some guy that had a huge lot of new NES controllers from back in the day.

Do zapper games still not work on this thing when hooked up to a tv through the native HDMI out? I've heard that on flat panel screens, the frame latency is significantly higher than on CRT displays which messes with the Zapper's synching. IS the native digital output made in a way that can compensate for this somehow? or is Duck Hunt still out of the question?
@TitanSKiZlz9 жыл бұрын
No
@HitNail18 жыл бұрын
+Garbunclezzz It depends on your TV. Most won't work with the zapper, but if you get one that's low latency it can.
@TheWorldofVee8 жыл бұрын
+Garbunclezzz Zappers can't work on LCD/LED etc, the whole idea of the technology relied on how tvs were made back in the 80s (CRT)

Actually if you get the right Torx bit you can open up the cartridge & use a pencil eraser to clean the gold contacts. No. 1 repair on the old NES was the 72-pin connector inside the unit...intermittent connection & kids thought blowing into the cartridge was some kinda magic!

Nostalgia is a novelty that fades quickly. I love thinking about renting Sega games on the weekends from Blockbuster, but I don't derive the same enjoyment from them now as I did then.

Yes it is man... yes it is. I don't even have a console because of Steam lol. The one thing about consoles is when the new one is out there's no guarantee it can play the old games. I got some old games on Steam lol, as well as current gen games.

Everyone blows incorrectly. I haven't seen a single person blow correctly. You have to put it under your shirt so that it gets warmed up. The reason i blew into it was to warm up the cartridge. I always figured it doesn't work when its cold and it needs to get warmed up to work.
@prosincr9 жыл бұрын
Blowing into it just adds water vapor, not a good idea. I don't see how there is a correct way to do the wrong thing.
@x2eXu50x9 жыл бұрын
Dilip Tien It has worked 99% of the time, doesn't seem wrong to me. And I've never had a cartridge stop working so your theory is wrong.

+x2eXu50x Disassemble the cart. Rub a pink eraser on the pins until they shine. Wipe off the residue and reassemble. Clean the pins too. I adjusted the pins on my NES so that you don't have to push the cart down tob boot the game. Disabled the lock out chip too. Games load first time every time (almost) and it doesn't reset if the console is bumped a little. It's satisfying to put a game in and play. All my SNES/N64 games are clean too, but I never had to jiggle/wiggle/adjust the damn thing for 15 minutes to play the SNES/N64.

You just reminded me.... When I was like age 5, one of my babysitters had stolen my Super Mario 3 game for NES. It could have been 1 of 3 babysitters. And from news of one that has done illegal activity, it can easily be pointed towards him. Mario 3 was my favorite game at the time. My mom did end up buying me another brand new super mario 3 for like $35 or so back around 1989. (price may have been more. All I remember is saving my own $ to buy used $15-$25-$35 games at a pawnshop in seattle).
