Tim, thanks for the review on the Max High Pressure. There are not a lot of reviews for this product on KZbin, so I appreciate your rundown. I purchased the system to frame out a metal shop for a client. In the past, I had drilled and screwed 2x material to red iron before and dreaded it. This system is awesome. I could quickly nail 2x to the red iron and the treated 2x to concrete with 1 tool . Expensive, for sure, but man, what a setup. The tools are light, fast, and high-capacity. The fasteners are not cheap, but this cost gets passed to the customer. When (if) they see how efficient the system is, they won't mind. The compressor is light and quiet. It's nice to have the traditional pressure on the compressor as well. I can't say enough about the HN120. What a time and body saver! I've had some Max traditional pressure products and have been happy with the performance, so your honest review and endorsement of this system was a big deal. I appreciate your honest, informative, and thorough content; thank you.

Full disclosure, I have the high pressure coil framer, hose and the compressor (but only two tanks, not the extra 3 for 5 total) that I won from Tim in an Instagram giveaway in conjunction with tool barn. Having said that, I feel zero obligation to either rant or rave for either the tools or tool barn. Now, my thoughts. Expensive? Yes, absolutely. I've known about the Max lineup for a while but found the cost to be a bit steep for myself so winning it was obviously a HUGE bonus. Having said that as well, if I had the chance to try them before hand, I would have definitely invested in them knowing what I know now. First, as Tim said, these guns and compressor are light weight. The wear and tear on my wrists, elbows and shoulders could have been reduced years ago (48 now which is like 72 in Canadian years) but again, I balked at the price. The capacity is another huge benefit. So much easier to get into a rhythm when nailing instead of having to constantly reload. Much like Tim, we keep the box near where we are and just grab another coil or have someone near it toss is another coil. We find it much more efficient than sticks plus you don't have a bag loaded down with racks of sticks. Sheathing goes much quicker. Assembling headers goes much quicker. We run Hitachi coils in these guns, no problem whatsoever. these things aren't exactly babied but we take care of the things that take care of us. These aren't disposable but you shouldn't be afraid of hurting them either. Because of our overwhelmingly positive experience with the framer, we picked up the positive placement gun. What another time saver for sure. And again, the weight and capacity are massive bonuses. So far, we've only run the Max nails through it but it's because it was all the distributor had on hand when we got it. Gonna try different ones soon when we frame up a large deck. The compressor is also sweet product. It's very light and incredibly quiet. It has kept up with everything we've thrown at it although we're looking to add the extra 3 take to it for extra capacity just for future proofing. It was so nice using the compressor to install hardwood floors in a kitchen we remodeled. Like I said, very quiet and unobtrusive. In the end, I would highly recommend the Max high pressure lineup. I know the price is an entry barrier to the ecosystem, but it's worth it, in my estimation. When I won my setup, it was through tool barn and they reached out quickly, got all my shipping info, and sent it out quickly. It was a limited experience with them but nothing to suggest that anyone else's experience would be different. Anyhow, my two cents and no, you can't have change!

Makes sense to me. A high pressure system would have a higher "Moment of Force", but using less energy overall to drive the nail. While a low pressure system would need to use high energy to compensate for its lower MoF.

Finally pulled the trigger on this. I read the original review in JLC a long time ago (was that you?) and saw the advantages immediately. I’d wanted one, but when I needed a new compressor I already had the guns, and if I needed a gun I had the compressor, or I needed it now, or whatever. Well, my compressor, hoses and framing guns got stolen so I had to start fresh. Glad I did. Here’s my thoughts. I got the coil framer and the concrete nailer. That framer is powerful! Very little kick. I shot a 3-1/2 x .148 in to engineered lumber scrap to try it out and no problem at all. Super smooth and easy. The gun is very light and well balanced. By far the most comfortable I’ve used. The real star of the show is the compressor. I can comfortably carry it with one hand. You can stand right next to it and carry on a conversation in full power mode. At half power it’s even quieter. Fit, finish and functionality are second to none. Very well thought out. It’s far and away the best compressor I’ve ever used. I think it’s worth buying even if you don’t get the high pressure guns. Compressor is SMALL! I can carry with one hand and put it in my 16” Weather Guard high-side boxes. No more heaving a big compressor in to the bed hoping it doesn’t get stollen when I get a coffee or rained on. Even the hose is better. Doesn’t grab or kink as much as other hoses and it’s light. The fitting and quick releases are better too. Overall, I couldn’t be happier. If you’re starting fresh and can justify the cost (get creative if you have to!) don’t hesitate. Go get one. My Hitachi metal connector nailer wasn’t stollen so I didn’t get one of those. The Hitachi is great and really compact, and I got hundreds of pounds of nails for it from a colleague who retired, so there’s that too. I’ll see how I feel once I need to by more nails… I still have an old Hitachi NR90 we call Big Bertha. It’s a beast. I kept it because it will shoot a .162 while the Max will not. Pity, since I think it has the power. I sometimes have a spec to stitch double LVL headers with .162 so big Bertha will stay as well. But the Max compressor can run both Hitachis so I’m in business.

are you running the small or compressor or the larger one?
@mechanicalman106811 ай бұрын
I got the smaller one. The only difference is the extension tank, which I think you can retrofit later on for necessary. I’m in San Francisco, so very little new construction or large framing projects. I do remodels and basement and infill additions. For proper framing projects, I’d want the larger tank to keep up with two framers, but for my uses it keeps up fine. If I’m really cranking doing seismic sheathing with a tight nailing schedule, it may struggle a bit, but wait a few seconds and you’re fine. For me the trade off of how light and compact it is is worth it since it gets moved more often than a compressor used to frame a whole house. My framing projects are rarely more than a week. And it’s great for siding. Keeps up fine.
@coryvroom40011 ай бұрын
@@mechanicalman1068 Awesome man thanks a lot for the reply. I think I am going to spring for the extra tanks then, as we do a fair bit of house framing. Buy once cry once. And if Im in finish or siding mode for a while I can gear it down to just the 2 tanks.

@@coryvroom400 cool. Enjoy. I didn’t mention I also have to concrete nailer. We use that a lot to attach interior wall bottom plates to slab and love it. Works just like a regular nail gun. For exterior walls we don’t because they’re often 3x and bolted since we’re in earthquake country.

How do these compressors perform when running off of an extension cord? Any of the standard compressors we have used in the past only seem to like to be plugged directly into an outlet especially in cold weather. Also could one of these units be powered up by a small Honda 2200w generator?

I still have a few questions, but great video! What is the life of them and how do they wear? Are they user serviceable? Obviously you prefer them to cordless, but why?
@Zorlig2 жыл бұрын
People prefer it to cordless because of the weight. Cordless is quite heavy. The only way to be lighter than this pasload
@mechanicalman1068 Жыл бұрын
Yep. I have a Hitachi/Metabo stick framer and love it: it’s the only one I’ve tried worth buying. But it’s heavy, a bit clumsy and only holds one rack of nails. I can’t imagine nailing sheathing with it. Also doesn’t shoot .148”. I just got the Max high pressure setup and it is amazing. So unless it’s a little pickup job or there’s no power available, I wouldn’t consider the cordless. Last time I used the cordless was for repairing a fence on a rural property where there was no power within 500 feet.

On the top plate one nail high on the bottom one nail low so they don’t spin. That is how inspectors used to check for short nailing if the could spin the stud.Of course that was back when we hand nailed everything.
