Try tapping on the bottom bowl to see if it releases or fix it. 2 Its extremly hard to start with a newly oiled filter. 1. Kick it slowly throug the first heavy part of the stroke, it wil overcome and get to a second heavy stroke. 3. Jump up and kick powerfull with streched leg, standing on the kickstart. 4. Repeat till started.

Similar story with a CRF450. It was not run for years and nobody could start it. So I bought it for cheap and finally started it after 3 carb cleaning. The leak jet was clogged. Ran fine after that. Don't forget to check the accelarator pump diaphragm. Put a box or bike stand for your left leg when starting. Makes things much easier.

If I was you I would look up some vids on how to kick start a 4 stroke engine. The way you kick now can cause your kick axle to break. If you do it the right way, the risk is lower and it will be way easier to kick it over. Good luck with getting it running!
@wastedintelligence90405 жыл бұрын
I believe that you should be checking for spark. Don’t overcomplicate your search. You have compression; there can’t be a stuck valve. So check for spark. If you find you have fuel and spark, try changing the plug. Some plugs don’t create a hot enough spark if they’ve be left out for a long time.

When kicking it over, slowly turn it just past top dead center on the compression stroke, then kick it hard. The way you’re doing it now could break the kick starter case and it’s not giving you enough energy to kick it over. Big for strokes have a very specific way to kick them over, I had to learn it with my bikes, Suzuki SP500, xr500 and xr600 owner.

Hey Gold Guy sad to see that the bike wouldn't fire up today was looking forward to hearing it run hope my advice can help you. First of all check for a spark if there is no spark either the CDI unit is dead or the coil is dead. There could be a break in the HT lead or the spark plug cap could be arking out and not letting the spark plug have a spark or the spark plug could have a hair line crack which will stop the spark. There could be a problem with the kill switch not making a circuit. If you have an ignition switch check with a multi meter that it's making contact as the key maybe turning but not turning the connection inside as it's only plastic and all ignition's are prone to snaping the plastic pin inside which joins the key to the connector. Replace that needle jet for a new jet as the solder could be affecting the flow of fuel. If all that is fine check the valve clearances. If you have them too tight or too loose it wont fire up. If it's not a too bigger job remove the auto decompressor and that way you might be able to do the compression test. And last of all if it's got an earth wire make sure it has a good clean connection and that its tight. And change any diaphragm's in the carb as a pin prick size hole will stop it running or they could be perished from the old fuel. Hope this information is helpful to you as from 1 biker to another we all know different things that get us stuck on why things don't work. I enjoy all your videos and love what you have done with the TS185 me and my dad are currently restoring an American imported TS400 and watching your TS180 videos have helped us with a lot of problems that we have got on the TS400 keep up the good work and look forward to all your fucture videos. That carb's been SITTING! Any time you clean a carb, take the whole thing apart, ALL THE WAY. Remove everything plastic or rubber. Here's the half-assed method to clean your carbs: Dump the pieces in a bucket of carb parts cleaner overnight. Turn the pieces over every few hours. Rinse the parts outside. Take a compressed air jet nozzle and blow out ALL the channels. Now, put the carb body in the sink under HOT, flowing water. Let the water run through the body for a while. Dissolve any remaining varnish in the channels by shooting carb cleaner spray through EVERY. SINGLE. TINY. HOLE. (Wear eye protection. Or don't. It's your vision.) Use compressed air to blow through ALL the channels, again, and dry them out. Soak the little brass parts in "CLR" (Calcium-Lime-Rust) cleaner. Soak the little steel bits in CLR separately. Don't mix the brass and the steel. Rinse everything well. Use 0000 steel wool to clean all the brass bits. Shoot carb cleaner spray through all the brass bits. ALTERNATIVELY, FOR THE CARB BODY (this is the MUCH better method): Buy an ultrasonic cleaner big enough to submerge the whole carb. (Many low-cost eBay ultrasonic cleaners are scams; they tend to be much smaller than they claim. Get the $80, 2.5-liter unit from Harbor Freight.) Put the carb parts in the ultrasonic cleaner, filling it with a mix of 8 parts EXTREMELY HOT water to 1 part Simple Green Pro. Rotate the parts occasionally with tongs. If you don't change the cleaning fluid after the first half-hour or so, your aluminum will become darkened and discoloured. If this happens, I 'm told running the aluminum parts through the ultrasonic cleaner again in Simple Green Purple will make them shiny, again, but I've not tried this. The ultrasonic cleaner will not harm the rubber or plastic parts. Use the CLR and 0000 steel wool, as mentioned above, for the brass parts. Blow compressed air through everything. First, check for spark! Maybe take off the air filter until the bike starts. Use some starting fluid spray into that air intake. By the way, to remove paint, brake cleaner spray will work even better than carb spray. Cheers.

A tip: never use tap water to flush your radiator out always use distilled water that you can get at wal-mart, most tap water will leave mineral deposit inside your engine and radiator over time, also easiest way to remove/install carb is to take off the subframe, the airbox will pull right off with subframe and after you take your seat and plastics off it is just 4 bolts.

You have compression that's for sure, do you have spark,is the plug wet with fuel? if you have spark and fuel, then it should start, so trick to starting these, as other have said, or bump it in 2nd or maybe 3rd gear, if still not start, might be you've timed the engine 180 degrees out, get a diaphragm for the carb!
@JAKEFRMST5 жыл бұрын
Look online for any service manuals close to the year of the bike if not exact. Go back to stock jetting and throttle needle adjustment as well as replacing the Excelerator pump diaphragm, (fuel plunger). Check your float height, the float should be parallel to the bowl mating surface. Then make sure a your fuel/air screw, (blue screw on bottom of carb), has 1 spring, 1 washer, 1 o-ring in that order. Adjust by screwing in flush and backing out 2 1/2 turns and make slight adjustments from there if required. Only adjust while the bike is up to operating temperature, otherwise adjustments are useless. Good luck, and find something to stand on like a stool to kick the shit out of that bike!

I would first check for spark, then I would check the fuel check valve. When your bike was leaking gas and you blew on the gas line and it stopped leaking. The valve may be sticking restricting fuel. needs to be kicked hard enough for the engine to fully cycle 2-3 times... kicking it at the vary start of the exhaust stroke, helps get the rotational mass going to then send it over the insanely high compression stroke. Regarding a 2004 YZ250F I worked on... have to twist the throttle open for 5 seconds, then close the throttle, put the choke on, kick it over 3-4 times, then holding in place slowly turn the engine until it is on the exhaust stroke... at the start of the exhaust stroke you should hear a puff of air out the muffler, crack the throttle a vary small amount, from their it needs to be kicked hard enough for the engine to fully cycle 2-3 times... it can take half a tank of gas for the computer to self learn. start run for 5 minuets, try a hot, cool off, start up run for 5 shut off, try hot start, let it cool off... over 2-3 weeks a knee will be in lots of pain. can relentlessly kick the heck out of it for 30 minuets. could roll it down a hill to start it, but if the engine takes off you will be up to 60mph as fast as ya can get to the shut off switch. can also plug off the de-compressor with a bolt, and push the intake cam one tooth clock wise "to decrease valve overlap, makes the engine vary snappy". i guess if the cylinder was flooded with gas the de-compressor would have a ligament use.

That's a bummer man. Firstly I'd drain all but 1.3 quarts of oil out of the bike. Oil level is checked with bike hot at dipstick in upper oil reservoir because it gradually drains back down when engine is off. See workshop manual. Secondly I'd pull carb and check everything. Every nook, cranny, fuel and air passage. I use a wd40 straw that has been carefully whittled to fit the smaller openings. I Recently found a blocked air passage to main jet emulsion tube on my XR that was blocked. Was driving me nuts. Couldn't figure out how It was rich enough to foul plugs, be a turd to start, and bog/splutter at 1/2 throttle with stock jets. That's all it was one tiny little air hole. I evidently missed it the first half a million times I had the carb out trying different needle positions.
