£5000 Houses for sale in Horden Colliery once a thriving place to live but since the pit closed and the government has let places like this go to pot and waste away which is a great shame as there are some beautiful areas and people.. P.S sorry for keep calling this a town and village as it’s of course a colliery.. #abandoned #horden #cheaphouses #property #derelict #housingmarket

Very sad mate! Different problem down here in London…. Too expensive! My family old home just off Upper Street , Islington …. Paid 600 for it in the 50s. It’s now worth 12 Million… we sold it in the 60s … WTF! We were fruit and veg people, I’m 65 and retired. They are killing every thing we know! Take care mate.

Over here its nice with some new builds being currently built but all the places named "Street" seems to be the roughest areas. needs knocking down, Smashing windows is really bad over here. Horden needs sorting! with all the money the council gets already they need to spend 1 mil to go accross hartlepool, horden, hemlington, stockton, thornaby and durham. needs gutting out i fully agree with you!

I lived there 4 years bk,my m8 bought 3 houses on the same street for 10k each, spent 5k on each house to get up to scratch and we worked on them ourselves,he only just managed to get his money bk after selling them for around 18k each fully renovated and now the new owners are stuck with em,trouble is its rife with heroin and crack round there, theres been a rise in shootings and stabings and even a delivery driver got killed round there recently, the kids just set fire to the houses and wreck everything,i had a washing machine delivered that got nicked before i even had chance to see it,nobody wants to live there and the only ones that do live there are only there because they are desperate and have nowhere else to go,even landlords are offering incentives to live there, like no deposit and first 2 months rent free, but still people dnt wanna live there, its such a shame as the surrounding areas are lovely its litrally just that estate tbh, they were all sold to social housing years ago and it got that bad they sold them all on for really cheap, now nobody wants rm and the only people who buy them by them blind, years ago the local council were offered the whole lot of the houses for £1 and they turned it down

Aye, your right on there marra, Margaret Thatcher destroyed tens of thousands of households and families, and 1987 was the starting point. @@Dangerous_Brian Maybe even before that, as there was a 2 million tonne pile of mined coal at Horden for 2 years. Many other collieries had similar stocks already mined. This already mines coal was a reserve for that said strike. The government fooled everyone. Yes the ego's played a massive part in the year long strike of which I remember very well. Whoever, whatever, the government wanted rid of our coal mines and the little power people had. Thumbs up mate!

Totally get that you feel to be show the old pit houses of Horden and it is a massive shame that these houses have mainly been abandoned but Horden has expanded and there are many other newer parts of Horden that it is very hard to get a house and the prices are from 60K up to 3figureK . Also like a lot of places pubs& clubs have shut but there are also pubs and clubs thriving in Horden. So next time you are in the area for the sense of a balance comment please visit these areas . Also next time you around call into Horden Comrades Social club and see a place what has been through the worse and have come out smiling and enjoy a great pint at the same time. Reading some of the comments on here are so far exaggerated the are alarming, so let's go through them one at a time . To my knowledge there has been 2 cases of shooting, one a fair few years ago ( a family dispute) the second one more recently a gang warfare ( one gang from Hartlepool and the other from Horden) far too many but it's not the only place stuff likes this happened. Also stabbings again one is one to many but again it's a national problem, which leads me onto drugs again this happens especially in the number streets but again a problem which is national,so when someone writes it's a problem they need to check there own backyard before casting out to other area's. Problems exist no matter where anyone lives in the UK. In case anyone is confused l am a proud Hordener who knows the proper Horden.

How sad. Especially when you think how many homeless people there is or families who can't afford to get on the property ladder. I still rent, a studio flat in my area is £200,000. It's ridiculous! The government have money for war or cheese and wine bloody parties but not to invest in these towns. They should get first time buyers up there, give new business a 1 year tax break to start something up etc. For a government it's really not that difficult to implement.
