I lived in Alabama and could hear WLS at night. The signal would drift in and out, depending on the weather. I sorely miss this quality of radio. John had the magic!

It’s 20/23 and I lay in my bed at night and listen to music from my youth on KZbin just like I did in the 70’s on my transistor radio. If I could only get a Boogie Check……

Todays Radio is a shame. All corporate, billions in debt. What a shame. Thx for the memories John "WLS Records" Landecker. I got in a couple B checks back in the day. I met an old boy with 2 tuneable 50 to 500,000 watt portable trailer transmitters. Oh my Lord I'm thinkin of piracy. :).

One can hear subtle crackle of distant lightning in background. Adding to the ambiance of Twilight Wattage boost, over Clear Channel frequency 89KHz. After rest of stations across U.S. on same channel either signed off, or switched down to low power wattage, similar to 4 Watt CB radio. Amplitude Modulation during nighttime hours traveled hundreds of miles, after reflecting from the ionosphere, a phenomenon called "skywave" propagation. Sound of AM became even trippier for short time in late 80's, when AM stereo was available across country. Shock Rock DJ Steve Dahl, who had originally been on Prog Rock WDAI 94.7 FM. And protested when changed over to Disco DIE in 1978. Is back on WLS FM early nites. _Double U-EL-ESS=World's Largest Store,_ operated from the original Sears Tower on Homan in Lawndale. And sold station in 1928. Allstate ins. in-house Tire brand. Discovery credit card. *One year before Atari 2600 came out, my mom got me Sears Telegames for Christmas. *

I wish he would bring that back to his show on WLS- FM that and the featured "It sucked then and it still suck today" he did when he hosted the radio show "Into the 70's"

Sad, real radio died a long time ago, replaced by computers, syndication, automation, and corporate greed.

At 3:12, hearing about the Who's visit to Cincinnati, I remember a t-shirt from that era (I was 16 then, 55 now) that said "I'd Trample over you to see the Who". Wish Iran could've been trampled.

Today, Landecker's joke about a tragedy like that would be a national story where he would have to apologize, vow to be a better man, and then get fired anyway.
