I love the OM606, it's such a prehistoric piece of engineering, my dad has an a 180D with an OM636 in it, which is an engine developed before the second worl war, you can see the similarities. But it's also such a fucking beast of an engine, also one of the best sounding Diesels.

Also I liked the mention of how well the charge cooler works, something i’ve considered for my OBS Ford Powerstroke. i remember the build on the skid factory very keenly , Deboss garage built it for him here in Canada and when they finished and dyno tested it and make just under 300 hp and 1300 foot pounds of torque i was humbled, with that you can idle up almost anything, you got a nice unit , wish we could get them in Canada 👍

The chargecooler more efficient than an intercooler and its perfect for space constraints hence why I have one on my commer and will be connected to the 605. Its a crazy conversion this patrol. Seems like the perfect Dail, toy, tow vehicle ever. Great work!
@CheekyNinja2 жыл бұрын
Its not more efficient, it has to go through two state changes rather than just one. Air/Water/Air vs Air/Air
@connerlabs2 жыл бұрын
@@CheekyNinja it is theoretically less efficient for steady state heat transfer, but nobody uses full throttle all of the time in a car, the water can absorb heat when you're on the gas and dissipate it later, so it probably works better in practice than an air/air intercooler ;) The VW/Audi TDIs all use air/water charge coolers now.
@CheekyNinja2 жыл бұрын
@@connerlabs it isn't more efficient. It might be more effective for short durations as you can use it is as a buffer to control temps but once your water heats up you can only take out as much heat from your charge air as you can emit from your cooler rad. Most setups can't maintain water temps so gradually heat soak. Whether that is a problem will depend on your use case. Since when has a vw commuter been a performance benchmark worth using? Look at track cars instead.

The body appears to be largely rust free, I think it's in pretty damn good shape overall. This truck wasnt really offered with many options in my country, hence why it never really caught on. The nissan armada with the 5.6l v8 and automatic transmission has never appealed to tuners in the states. Sweet truck, I wish I was as mechanically skilled as you are so I could build something similar.
@texasslingleadsomtingwong87512 жыл бұрын
I love love love the vk56 motor. Really well built . You are right , Americans have not thought to really dive deeper into the Armada's underlying design and little to no one has heard of the patrol . Myself, I'd love to do an exhaust upgrade on my Armada as well as a quality roof rack. Another huge issue I had was tires . The Armada comes with 20" rims sporting "c" rated tires . Wasn't an issue til I had 5 passengers , hitch rack , a touch of gear on regular roof bars and a trip through a riverbed . Two days later began noticing a faint vibration going down the highway . Pulled over , and noticed signs of tire belt slip , hmmmm . Looked a bit more and noticed a far more concerning sign . Where the tread pattern stops at the outer edges of the sidewall , there was tiny little holes in the valley between every tread . Didn't understand what I was seeing. Sat in the parking lot thinking on it 🤔. Then I got my cellphone light out , looked closer . 😳 it hit me , there were cavities inside each hole . The tread was separating ! Well , I've been here before with my 7.3 powerstroke , and previous owner fitting on C rated tires . Have damaged rear of bed both sides as a reminder. So , went E rated for load , went AT type tread , swapped to older Armada 18" rims for more sidewall . Ended up with some killer quiet tires that are tough as nails ... wife hit two curbs already and I hit one. Damn passenger side blind spot . I still want to look into getting a bat wing type side awning as well.
