It's always good to see the master at work, thanks Brian. PS. I did as you advised re fitting main bearing (casing in oven, bearing in freezer), and it practically fell into place, no bother at all :-)

@@500dbd34 Bit of two steps forward one back re bike. I had to re-strip engine in order to solve a weird whirring noise, which was caused by a worn main bearing outer washer. Which, in turn was caused by a worn breather collar locating pin. Nearly there now :-)

I've serviced a few of my own over the years, and you cant beat a new condenser for getting a new lease of life out of a tired mag.

Do you prefer the loose wire advance , from pictures , the cam plate looks the same . I am just getting mine rewound pretty sure the condenser was bad , and might convert to the loose wire end housing . Cheers
@500dbd342 ай бұрын
@@Cobra427Veight hi, I’m not sure if the camplates are the same, I have both slack and tight advance mags and prefer the slack advance type. Less chance of slipping back when on the road. Cheers Brian

@500dbd34 I bought an end housing with a face cam and im going to convert to Slack Wire. I would agree with you on tight wire .face cam did look the same in the picture, both have a notch to engage the end bit on the opposite side. Cheers

I just got my exchange armature from dragonfly, but the small end points shaft with the notch is missing , I didn't know it came off , I can see a small thread and maybe a keyway , are these available? Can you check yours and confirm this part is removable. Cheers .

It’s great watching your utube videos, thank you so much! So your new spacers eliminated the old large shim spacers? Do you mind adding the name and contacts for the armature rebuilds? Are the new condensers a stock old style type buried in back internally? I’ve seen new style that bolt on the front but never bought one. I was surprised finding out that the bearings must be mounted inside paper gaskets to eliminate the electric flow or is it grounding out? I’ve purchased some and they offer different thickness gasket material . I’ve never known which thickness of that to put where? Perhaps that’s standard in all magnetos but what a design! Thanks again for your all your efforts, very inspiring help for working on great old bikes.

Hunter, thanks for he comment, when I stripped the Mags I noticed thin shims under the inner bearing races at both ends as well as a full size thin shim under the end plate at the points end. I played about with different shims (trial and error) until I was able to eliminate all end float. Still not sure if this was the correct way to go but it worked. The company who rebuilt the Magneto were in Preston, Ribblesdale Auto Electrics Ltd., they rewound the armature and fiited a new condensor, (old style) with a 2 year guarantee. Cheers B

Hi Brian, Didn't you have to charge the Magnet since the coil was removed, also the whole cleaning process etc which usually makes it weaker every time the coil gets removed?
@500dbd34 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, One of the magnetos had a better magnet than the other but I never changed either of them. I wasn't aware that cleaning made the magnets weaker. either way both Magnetos are working well with bright blue sparks. Cheers B

Fgood vid except you shouldtorque the nut on the slipping clutch so a kickback doent damage the dynamo, think it should slip at 7ft.lbs if memory serves me.
