The controller is more critical than the motor stated wattage. The max current times the battery voltage is the real system power. A bike with 500 watt peak power is much weaker than one with 750 watts peak. Vendors play with these numbers. I had a bike with a 500 watt motor and a 13 A peak controller. Replacing it with a 22 A peak controller made a world of difference but both could be said to be 500 w.

For the bike or the pedal assist? Usually if I'm riding with pedal assist on I'll keep the bike in 7, but if I'm tackling hills I'll shift to 1 or 2.

Hi Dustin, thank you for posting this video. I've been an avid bike rider for years and I hesitate to purchase an eBike for the simple fact that I don't want to seem "lazy". However, with that said, I'm an older adult and not as in shape as I once was, so seriously considering this option. I'm 6'0 tall female, 200 lbs. and currently own a Trek XL hybrid bike. I ride trails with moderate hills. What would you suggest?

I'm getting on I weigh 233 and I tried a 350 it was decent with peddling however throttle it was slightly slow but good so can imagine 500w being nice They claim it has 750w peak I assume on acceleration

Hi Dustin what watt E-bike would you recommend for very steep long hills like 3 to 5 miles in length. I live in area with very steep hills/ mountain area ? I weigh 75kg about 170lb . Thanks 👍.

I think a 500w would be sufficient for your weight. I'd say you more so need a big battery, at least 14ah if not bigger, like 21ah. Those are long hills, and it will really drain your battery if going uphill for that long. Depending on grade, you may need a 750w, but really depends on how steep. But for your weight, usually 500 watts is enough.

Up to 50 miles. The distance you can achieve depends on the weight of the rider, the terrain you are riding, and how the electric assist is used. The level and frequency of the pedal assist and also the throttle.
