Uncle Larry! Hey a few videos ago you mentioned that most people who say they are guitar players aren’t really, could you give us a good definition of a real guitar player? Is a real guitar player one that uses intervals and progressions, or more inversions, or knows how to play chords/scales in every key, or is it about playing more than just covers, etc. Thanks, rock on dude! 🤘🏻
@501chorusecho7 сағат бұрын
Like i said below…a real guitar player is a guy that 10 other real guitar players stand around and say “damn, that’s a bad motherfucker right there” It’s as simple as that

Man, I did a gig over the weekend, backing up a female, doing a lot of 90's country, some newer stuff, some twisted stuff, it was great! There was another guitar player and I sharing lead/rhythm roles, then the usual bass, drums etc... The second rehearsal him and I talked about your channel for a while, about how much we love it, and how cool of a cat you are, and how much fun it would be to hang someday. Maybe one day, we will make the long journey from Atlantic Canada to Nashville. I did it several times in the 90's, but that seems a life time ago! Great stuff Tom! Thanks

I have a '63 Gibson (according to it's serial #) that I inherited from a late friend who used to play in the "Village" in NYC at the same time as Dylan was there. It's got a Country Western label in it, but it's had so much work, that nothing else matches a Country & Western profile. Different top w/wood binding, dot inlay fretboard, tuners, different pickguard, may not even be the original neck, in which case the serial # ain't right, But, it plays and sounds really good, and cause my old buddy gave it to me when he was about to die, I take VERY good care of it. Bought it a new case, and seeing/hearing yours makes me want to get it out and play it more. My old arthritic hands have trouble on acoustics these days, but maybe I'll put some lighter strings on.
@andyw602619 сағат бұрын
never ceases to amaze me - the difference between how "simple" chord sequences sound when they're played perfectly and accurately like you do vs the way I play them......darn......years more practice and effort required by me....must focus on doing the "simple" stuff right before I try to play more "complex" stuff.....

Loving the cold, that is the Cleveland in you! That Gibson sounds amazing ( I know you have a ton to do with that). I've got a 1958 J45 left-hander and if I could only keep one of my guitars for the remainder of my life, goodbye Martins, Yamahas, Taylors, etc. Just my J45. Full of lower bout cracks, checking everywhere, non-original tuning pegs (took off the little white pegs and put on the Les Paul key pegs) and it's ugly but mojo to burn. Exact same issues of tonality above with fretted and open chords above 7th fret same. My first guitar was a right-handed Yamaha spruce top, solid mahogany back and sides, made in 1974. He had just picked up a really nice Gibby 150 and a Martin D-28. So I had a luthier set it up left-handed with some bridge work and it sounds so sweet. I took the pick guard off, refinished the top, and it looks and sounds amazing. I also have a Takamine made in 1980 (pre-Martin lawsuit) and that is a cannon of a guitar. I don't talk about gear much but I had to pitch in.
@callanturner4749Күн бұрын
Some makers use a compensated bone at the bridge to help with acoustic intonation. I think I have found over the years that you tune the as best as you can correctly then tweak tuning the guitar to itself when you are playing chords. Fun times tuning guitars eh? Thanks UL love your videos, your playing is always inspiring.

I've got a 1970 J-50. It's a weird one, square shoulder, 1 9/16" nut width - not typically a very desirable guitar, but it's got a vibe. It's not my main acoustic but i've pulled some songs out of it.
