The clone trooper narrating this sounds a little bit like even though he had to follow orders he feels some guilt and regret for having to do this. This shows that while they were made to blindly follow orders, they were still human.

What I remember about the rise of the Empire, is how quiet it was. During the waning hours of the Clone Wars, the 501st Legion was discreetly transferred back to Coruscant. It was a silent trip. We all knew what was about to happen, what we were about to do. Did we have any doubts, any private traitorous thoughts? Perhaps, but no one said a word. Not on the flight to Coruscant, not when Order 66 came down, and not when we marched into the Jedi Temple. Not a word. - Clone Officer

Not really, it doesn’t make any sense that these clones who have bled and bonded with the Jedi would all just still go ahead with the orders to just gun them down. If anything, it reduces them to just living droids who choose slavery and committing genocide over loyalty and righteousness which is less interesting cause they wouldn’t be individuals at all. No offense, but I think interesting to you is just cool and “badass” instead of complex or human.
@thespacecowboy4124

@@berdogaan7284 good argument but you could make a case that it actually makes them more complex. The clones new about order 66 as a contingency plan but never actually thought they would need to do it. Then the mother fucking senator class them all in and says for the safety of the republic the Jedi need to die. Since it's the senator they can't really say no so they attack their former allies. I like this explanation better than some measly chips

Describing the rise of the empire being so quiet is a incredible detail that most stories don’t add. Like how something smelt, how the air felt. To describe the slaughter of a entire faction as being so quiet, that no one saw coming or even thought was coming, is perfect
@hermanossaldivia
@hermanossaldivia 3 жыл бұрын
Order 66 and the end of the clone wars were also mentioned to be quiet in the Revenge of the Sith novelization by Mathew Stover: "Order 66 is the climax of the clone wars, not the end. It's not a thrilling climax, it's not the culmination of an epic struggle or the conclusion of a heroe's journey. It's just the opposite, the clone wars were never an epic struggle or a heroic journey, they were never intended to be. And that is how they end... Quietly"

I much preferred the "Mental Conditioning" concept over the Inhibitor Chips that the show gave us. I can see what Filoni was going for, and its still a neat concept, adding an almost existential horror to the Clones, but I still preferred the original idea of them knowing all along, even as they had no personal issues with the Jedi. A far more "Good Soldiers follow orders" explanation than the machine-made brain tumor.
@CecilyThanador
@CecilyThanador 3 ай бұрын
To be honest the chips were a kind off necessary addition because of how the clones and their relationship with the Jedi were portrayed in the newer media. Every clone having a complete individual personality wasn't really something in Legends: Commanders, ARC-troopers and some commandos started to have this but the basic troopers were way colder and also much more aggressive. Not quite flesh-robots as they still showed emotions. Their default behaviour was akin to Post-Chip-Activation-Clones we see in Bad Batch for example. The relationship with the Jedi was also way more strained. Some Jedi generals were more in line with Krell who is portrayed as an exception: Using the clones in a callously manner and some did not even see them as full beings. I would like the chips to have either a higher failure rate or simply being an emergency button. Someone like Bacara probably doesn't have any scruples against killing Ki-Adi-Mundi and doesn't need any chip. Meanwhile Commander Wolffe would probably resist the chip with all his being.
@dennis.edich1998
@dennis.edich1998 Ай бұрын
I like the old Canon more as well. The majority of clones did not have personal contact with the their Jedi generals past maybe directly speaking regarding orders leading to a far weaker bond on average than what many people assume. This is primarily due to the Jedi propensity for emotional and Personal detachment, which the clones all took note of. Think of their relationships with the Jedi as being closer to Pong Krell than Anakin Skywalker or even Plo Koon. Than we add two more factors such as a lot of Jedi being illegal suited as generals and suffering inflated casualties because of it or being outright abusive of their troops and then the fact that the clones are heavily conditioned on both the genetic and upbringing levels to think a certain way and be loyal not to the Jedi but to the Republic meaning the Supreme Chancellor. This is reflected in the fact that ARC-troopers, who did not have the same conditioning done to them and were much purer copies of Jango Fett, had a tendency to refuse Order 66 at higher rates compared to Clone Commandos, who were subjected to the Standard array of mental conditioning. Then to put the cherry on top of this whole tragedy, the clones for as far as they knew, even the ones with Jedi they respected and cared for, with only few exceptions, legitimately thought the Jedi were conducting an unjust coup against the Republic and that what they were doing was for the greater safety of the institution they were born to defend. They didn't know Palpatine was a Sith, they didn't even know wtf that meant (what a Sith is at all) and they certainly didn't know the coup in question was little more than a posse of four Jedi masters going to deal with Palpatine. And this is a swallow dive into the reasons. And it is a much deeper conversation that places far more agency and meaning into each clone's decision to not follow the order than these stupid chips ever would.

“How quiet it was” really sums up the empire’s plan. The entire prequel trilogy is Palpatine’s manipulation coming to a peak, the Republic was doomed from the start and they just didn’t know it. Revolution didn’t come with another war, or toppling the government. It already changed to the Empire under everyone’s nose. The massacre of the Jedi is something that got twisted by public view into a necessity rather than tying up loose ends.

Our first objective is to capture the council chamber. Lord Vader will be our field commander. Let's keep the chatter low and move out."" Having grown up with the prequals, I spent my early childhood loving the Jedi Order. Wanting to be like them. Wanting to be a force for good. Etc. Etc etc. When I got to this mission for the first time, I was shuddering with fear. I was betraying the order that I loved. The Jedi I respected. When the initial cutscenes played, I got more and more nervous. And then that opening speech from the field narrator came on..... _"Tonight, the fall of the Jedi is at hand..."_ I had to quit and put my controller down. This is why I hate those stupid brain chips. He was "Just following orders". A perfect representation of what the clones were, they were pawns of the Empire from the day they came out of the test tube, the war didn't matter, they just followed orders until the day came when they were given the only order that Palpatine cared about. To them it was just number 66 of the 150 preplanned orders, they didn't consider "why" they had that order planned, or discuss "what would you do if they ordered number 66 on our Jedi Gneeral?". It was an order, they would do it as ordered, and when the dust had settled and the bodies lay dead, the only excuse they needed they were "just following orders".

@@EternalEmperorofZakuulyes definitely. I love the original version of Order 66 and the clones in general much more, when the clones were genetically modified and totally indoctrinated to be absolutely obedient and loyal to the Republic and Chancellor Palpatine above their relationship to their Jedi generals and when orders were orders. And they also knew about Order 66, they weren't actively waiting for it to be issued, but they were totally aware of it. That is the true slave army of the Republic, not the individual characters with hopes and dreams and being mind-controlled by some bio-chip to guarantee their loyalty to their true purpose, which is Order 66. TCW completely missed the point by portraying the clones the way they are in this show. The clones did not need that much humanization. Why did the clones that were genetically modified, raised and indoctrinated for war and carry out the orders of the Republic need that much humanization? Clones are strictly ideologically precessed beings. The chip only spoiled the whole ideas of the clones, which plays very stupidly. It's kind of a shame people think clone troopers should follow TCW's flawed simplistic ideas of what the clones are and not thinking about how little sense it makes in-universe and that the original version is way better.

I much prefer this Legends plot of Order 66 to the new Canon "Inhibitor chip plot", here the Clones or at least the 501st know the endgame by Mygeeto. They know of the Chancellor's "Superlaser", they say "keeping Mundi in the dark wasn't easy". On Felucia they say about Ayla "wanted to make a point of seeing us all off personally, said we were the best damn soldiers she'd ever fought with, it was a good thing we were all wearing helmets... Because none of us could bear to look her in the eye..." This is all before Anakin even finds out about Sidious' real identity! the Clones knew the endgame before Anakin did! Just think about that, they really did knowingly betray the Jedi they fought side by side with for three years... They knew, they kept it from the Jedi, they played their part as 'Kingmakers' to bring about a New Order. One that the Clone in the campaign later proudly remarks will be an era of "Order and peace", the "Republic" Clone troopers are at the start of the Imperial era, the ones who first embraced the "Peace and Order" slogan of the Galactic Empire. (This is why I love Legends and absolutely love this old but golden game.) And it's all narrated by Temeura Morrison, wether playing as Boba or Jango Fett or a Clone trooper, he's just the coolest character on screen. Plays off betraying the Jedi as "just another day in the life of a Clone" in this Battlefront II campaign, it's why I loved it, you play the bad guy and the character himself knows it and likes it. "We did secretly enjoy putting down the odd uprising" or something along those lines, in the cutscene right before Naboo is conquered. They knew and they went along with it, even in the prequels it is shown or at least hinted: - When Cody is informed of Order 66, he says to the AT-TE to "blast him" referring to Kenobi scaling the cliff off to the side of the battle, that gun fires almost instantly after the order is given. It's already pointed in the direction of Kenobi and only needs to adjust slightly for elevation, it's aiming way off away from the battle, pointing at a bare cliff face only Kenobi is in that area. That gun was tracking Kenobi since he departed from Cody and his men, waiting for the signal, "Blast him" which is so casually delivered by Cody. -When Yoda is attacked by the two clones, one is off at the back and receives a communique from Sidious and addresses him literally by his Sith name not as "Chancellor", he then walks up to the scout trooper stood right behind Yoda and nods at him. The scout trooper is not given a communique, he would've been overheard by Yoda if he had been given one, the scout trooper is given no order by the one who did receive the communique, he's just given a nod. A signal, a que. Like they were briefed beforehand and the scout trooper was stood, waiting in position to take the shot, just waiting for the nod. It's just dark when you look at it that way... -Same as the Jedi on a speeder bike, the two (I believe) 91st Recon troopers on bikes accompanying her, look over to each other and nod like "yep I got the call, lets do it". If there were inhibitor chips, each clone would receive the order through their helmet and just act right then and there, not pre plan and co-ordinate and nod to each other in a scheming way. I think the Clones knew, through the final stages of the war, the last few months. I think they knew. At lot darker plot to the New Canon Inhibitor chips one. Also the Bad Batch's "battle of Kamino" is another point of New Canon I dislike, it is where Venators fly over the cloning city and just blow it up, betray the Kaminoans. Which I think is a weak plot to just paint the Empire as "wall to wall overtly so understandable a kid could get it", bad and evil. Can't we have a morally grey villain? Or does it have to be so black and white? Rebels pure good Empire pure evil?... I don't like how the animated shows portray the two sides of both the Clone Wars and Rebels, and is why I haven't watched much at all of each show. They are entertaining, but the story they build for the overarching plot leading into the original trilogies and the story of Star Wars as a whole just overwrites too much of the old story. "Creative liberties"... Whereas in Legends the Empire doesn't just blow the entire city to pieces, it's not even them who start the battle as such. The Kaminoans breed new batches of Clones to fight the Imperial clones and start an uprising. The Clones, now fighting as Stormtroopers but who are still the exact same veterans from the war underneath, are sent in to quietly and unofficially put down the uprising. They land on the planet and take over the city via ground assault, securing the advanced tech of the Kaminoans and retaining a usable city in the process. Instead of just blowing it up for the sake of "evil guys bad look we'll show you" - Standard Disney plot. Yeah they're evil, I can see that Disney, but you've made them absolutely dumb just like you did the droids and it makes the villains a pain to watch instead of being entertaining. It's cringe at times especially with the battle droids, "who can feel physical and emotional pain" (the droid giving up to Anakin saying it's hopeless in such a depressed way, the droid who gets his "eyes" scalded by steam and jumps back screaming "my eyes!" in pain...) It just makes me feel sorry for them and makes me want them to win because the "good guys" just abuse them like they're nothing and for a kids show it's just weird, the films never did stuff like that apart from R2 burning those two B2 battledroids alive aboard Grevious' ship. In the animated shows the good guys are written as such goofy 'goody goody two shoes' it annoys me because they, in the same breath as that, brush off decimating a Star Destroyer of twenty thousand crew or throwing a battledroid "with feelings" around the room like a ragdoll. Just abusing the enemy for a joke like it's nothing because "oh they're evil so who cares" -Standard Disney plot. Which is why I don't like the new animated shows and the new Canon stories they're making. They're just strange, they're entertaining, but when I analyse it there's a lot of stuff that just doesnt fit for how I imagine Star Wars to be. I suppose I should apologise to the animated show fanboys and girls, sorry kids, nothing personal.

And good soldiers... follow orders. *** Remarkably, I managed to reach an escape pod and flee the Venator as the traitors Tano and Rex sent the rest of my brothers plummeting to their deaths. A part of me wishes I was with them. Those men were more than soldiers. They were my friends, my comrades, my brothers. When I finally returned to Imperial space, I immediately enlisted in the Stormtrooper Corps. I owed my fallen brothers at least that much.

THIS is what the prequels should have been. Revenge of the Sith has a tiny touch of this atmosphere and that's why it's regarded as the best prequel. The atmosphere in this is so unbelievably chilling!!!
@dieselface1
@dieselface1 5 жыл бұрын
This is a war game where you play a normal soldier. The prequels are movies about the fall of the Jedi and the Republic. So there's a reason for why the prequels have mainly Jedi and politician characters, because they're relevant to the plot. If the prequels were just war movies following clones, sure, you'd see the Rise of the Empire, but you wouldn't know at all how or why it rose. Order 66 would probably seem to come out of nowhere and wouldn't make much sense. Revenge of the Sith is considered to be the best prequels really because the plot was more focused and the younger actors really finally got into their roles well.

I still prefer the severe cult-like indoctrination of the clones in the EU, as there was still accountability for the clones that definitely would have gone turncoat... as much as I love the Clone Wars show, the inhibitor chips just don't do it for me. Instead of the chips the biggest tragedy used to be that the clones, despite being good friends with the Jedi, loved the Republic more, and even if they had those private traitorous thoughts they would never betray their brothers, their only family.

Do most of the descriptions I will give here apply to the Grand army of if the Republic from the EU?: The Jedi use a slave army of genetically identical men with only limited independence, but being extremely good in their roles as soldiers, to fight the separatists during the Clone Wars and relied on them over time. They feel uncomfortable with the blind obedience in the clones but became dependent on them since the Jedi cannot fight the separatist droid armies and militias alone. I think in the EU, clones did not form bonds with the Jedi so easily, the majority at least. So most Jedi and their clone legions only keep a professional relationship during the course of the Clone Wars, which does nothing to counter the dislike the clones have to the Jedi and that's why the unhesitatingly follow Order 66 because there is no other choice for them than the state. I mean the clones don't betray the Republic they swore loyalty to for leaders they do not like that much. Only few clones and Jedi were really close to each other, such as Aayla Secura and Commander Bly, so in this case, some clones of a specific legion either tried to save their Jedi general during Order 66 or killed them as quickly and painlessly as possible, such as Bly and the 327th Star Corps did with Aayla, as they didn't want her to suffer. The clones were basically sleeper agents for the Sith. They showed up extremely conveniently at the beginning of a galactic wide war without any knowledge of the Jedi Order beforehand and the Jedi were tricked into leading them into battle, thinking the separatists and their droid army were the Sith-cause and not realizing that the Sith (Chancellor Palpatine) in actuality were leading both sides the whole time. The reason Count Dooku publicly revealed/showed himself as a Sith Lord is to misdirect the Jedi. Even if the clones were more like organic droids and more receptive to oders, some of them still expressed some sort of individuality as exemplified by their penchant for using nicknames among their brothers instead of their standard alpha numeric designations as well as later in the Clone Wars sporting different hairstyles and even tattoos. These type of clones were often viewed as oddities. The clone army fought alongside the Jedi for 3 years but in reality served Chancellor Palpatine. By orchestrating the Clone Wars and making public think the Jedi were the true villains of the Clone Wars who brought chaos to the galaxy, trying to overthrow the government and having just survived a Jedi ambush in his office against 4 Jedi masters, he tricked everyone, especially the Clone army into thinking the Jedi really betrayed them and that's what makes him so much smarter than relying on some brain-chips like in TCW. He manipulated both parties, the Jedi and the clone army and when Order 66 was issued, both the clones and the surviving Jedi each felt betrayed by each other and none of them (really) realized that they were actually manipulated by the same guy. And because of the kind of relationship the Jedi and their clones had, the clones don't become as much humanized as in TCW and (naturally) remain much more droid like and unquestionably receptive to Palpatine's orders. In the EU, the clones had free will, because they weren't brainwashed and mind-controlled but indoctrinated (take the people of North Korea as a real life example, they have free will seeing they aren't mind controlled but they are thought to obey and don't know how not to). They were also genetically modified to be more obedient and less independent than Jango Fett (as mentioned in AOTC). So it's in their genes to obey the chain in command above everything else, which is of course Chancellor Palpatine. From birth, the clones were trained to be one cohesive unit and fully dependent on a command structure. So if a higher ranking officer gave them an order, they followed it. But they were able to think negatively of the order but they were so indoctrinated that they just followed orders due to them not realizing they had the choice to disobey. This is why Palpatine actually made the Jedi generals during the Clone Wars, because simply said the Jedi were arrogant and were terrible at leading armies. The bad choices of many Jedi led to a large number of pointless casualties. And mistakes aside the Jedi were more then willing to sacrifice clone lives seeing they were considered less seeing they were not part of the natural order of the force. Because of these character flaws and lack of military experience the clones started to resent them and were more eager to execute their orders (and the jedi). They were pushed their whole life to memorize the 150 contingency orders they were taught during their training on Kamino, including Order 66, besides their training to prepare for the battlefield and in combat. When Palpatine issues Order 66, he doesn't explain the details of the order. He gives it and expects every clone commander to know about it. in "Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader - Part II: The Emperor's Emissary" Vader is even tasked to hunt down Clones that disobeyed. In it Palpatine says: "Contagion brought about by fighting alongside the Jedi for so many years. Clone or otherwise, there is only so much a being can be programmed to do. Sooner or later even a lowly trooper will become the sum of his experiences". This was especially true amongst the Arc-Troopers and Clone commandos, who were less heavily indoctrinated so they can function more independently than regular clone troopers when cut off from the command structure. They were also bred with more independent genes and had a more intensive training for their roles during the Clone Wars, which allowed do act more as individuals. As specialists they needed it. And with that level of independence, they actually had the ability/were mentally able to disobey Order 66. Back to the regular clones: An inhibitor-chip from TCW can be removed from a clone's brain and he will suddenly disobey Order 66 but in the EU, indoctrination (and also genetic modification) since birth is very difficult/challenging to overcome.

I love the original version of Order 66 and the clones in general so much more, when the clones were genetically modified and totally brainwashed to be absolutely loyal to the Republic and Chancellor Palpatine above their relationship to their Jedi generals and when orders were orders. TCW kinda missed the point by portraying the clones the way they are in this show. The clones did not need humanization, why did the clones that were raised and indoctrinated for war and carry out the orders of the Republic need that much humanization? Clones are strictly ideologically precessed beings. The chip only spoiled the whole ideas of the clones, which plays very stupidly. The clones are supposed to be like what they are in the EU. It's kind of a shame people think clone troopers should follow TCW's flawed simplistic ideas of what the clones are and not thinking about how little sense it makes in-universe and that the original version (Indoctrination and genetic modification) is way better.
