The most impressive part of the original Battlefront 2's story for me was that, despite playing as the Empire in the second half, I never once felt like I was the villain of the story. The way the narrator frames Order 66 and the attack on the Yavin base throws everything into shades of grey.

Anti Symboi Ehhh. The empire did bad shit, don’t get me wrong. But the Rebellion ain’t clean either, Death star probably had citizens, their rebellion forced the Empire to crack down on them harder instead of just being lazy and on their arses which leads to the empire taking it out on Civvies. And groups like Saw Gerrora (think that’s how you type it?) were not beyond brutal interrogation and even questionably torture. Whatever they did to that pilot, it wouldn’t be allowed on Earth. And to top it all off, in legends they lead to basically a great war because of what they did. And in cannon they don’t arm themselves and are weak to being attacked by anyone, the fact that they have no military, even to deal with bigger pirate threats is concerning. Much less if they had to fight off anyone like the Yuu Zan vong (probably misspelt it), I’d love to see what their government structure is if their military is nonexistent. And finally, the First order only blew up all those planets because the Rebellion took them and couldn’t even defend them in the first place
@Slender_Man_1865 жыл бұрын
Anti Symboi consider this, Palpatine in the old EU knew about the Yuzong Vong from Thrawn, hence all of the super weapons. The Empire might’ve been pretty corrupt, but at least everyone agreed to transition into the Empire, and it actually protected planets that were the north side of screwed during the Republic.

Hotaru I think if the empire had more competent people ruling ie Not Palpatine or Tarkin types more like Thrawn types able to understand how civilizations tick and keep them at least satisfied there wouldn’t have been as much threat of rebellion certainly there wouldn’t have been as many planets willing to give them aid. As I know your are talking about the Jedi being sarcastic let’s mention that there is nothing you can do about fanatics like Palpatine either they tear down good systems from outside or get inside and seize power instead of using their fanaticism to make healthier systems. To put it simply assholes had power and were breaking things the galaxy got upset and the decent hard working members of the empire get screwed by their Moff who wants more power. Before Disney took over the EU was a great example after papa Palpatine died Moffs all started breaking off and seizing their planets. Wasn’t until Dalla literally killed them all off that only the decent ones where left then Finally the Imperial remnant got good leaders starting with Gallead Palleaon and by the Legacy Era was growing back into an empire. @gangsta741105 жыл бұрын
@@luckysix1015 well considering the learning technics used ( flash training) and genetic engeenering it is totally credible to assume that its would actually work in 99.9% within regs tanks, which bring us to the second part of : if chips, then how do you explain thé non complience of some troops ? And what about RC and ARCs, and Null, do they have chips too ? If yes, why so many RC didn't complied with the order ? Did they knew about the chip ? How ? And if they didn't had chips, why ? I personnaly see it as more easy to coordonate all of that by simply explain that the contigengy orders were part of their basic and elemantal training and that they simply followed the plan as they were trained. Plus I believe it to be more fitting as well to how the clones are portrayed in all the materials we have. And finally, considering the way TCW showed us how the chip acted on the clone, it does look very off compared to what we see in ROTS.

K F I don’t know about legends but in canon only like 3 clones that we know disobeyed order 66 and its because they removed their chips. There was also commander Grey in the Kanan comic but he disobeyed weeks to months after the initial order, so we can’t even say if the chip was still active.

My gut feeling is the "inhibitor chips" were added much later as a retcon to explain why all of these really cool Clones could willingly commit a genocide against their commanding officers who they fought and died with. For example, Cody does not seem like the type to just go "Lol. Bye, Obi." and just shoot him. And if Rex hadn't found out, his character would have been ruined. This game makes the 501st out to be more like the SS or NKVD. An armed unit serving directly under Space Hitler/Stalin that goes in to do the dirty work for him and get rid of political enemies when he is ready for them. Like all of the Clones knew exactly what Knightfall was and there wasn't a big moment where Palpatine needs to explain it to the player. They just kinda knew the Jedi were going to be killed at their hands and felt either supportive about it in the case of Mundi or disheartened in the case of Secura. But at the same time, they were "just following orders."
@KoalaTContent5 жыл бұрын
All clones when originally written knew about Order 66. They were just unnaturally loyal to Palpatine and could lie to a Jedis' face for years then shoot them in the back at a moments notice. They were agents of the Sith until The Clone Wars didn't want kids to be sad that their cartoon protagonists were cold hearted and brutal.
@papgooner98755 жыл бұрын
The clones were aware of order 66 as were the Jedi. The order was created in case the Jedi went rouge. There were orders of the same type for the chancellor, the senate, CSF, and GAR officers. The chancellor declared that the Jedi have gone rouge, and following lawful protocol, enacts order 66.
@russby35545 жыл бұрын
I never liked the introduction of the chips. I personally liked the idea that the Clones simply followed orders. @CptPhilippnes4 жыл бұрын
@@kaxdra To be fair, if you have an outside perspective of Windu going to the chancellor's office, it does look like a legitimate coup. The Order 66 book of the Republic Commando series gave us a perspective we haven't been exposed to yet: the idea of Jedi and Sith turf war being an internal thing for the Jedi Order. Taken outside of that context, it really does look like the Jedi unlawfully attempting to either detain or, at worst, assassinate Palps without passing it through the oversight of the Senate which makes it look like the Jedi are overstepping their boundaries especially with how insular they are with their own matters. If anything, it legitimizes Order 66 and makes it look like, to us, an amazing stroke of manipulation on the part of Palps since he openly revealed his nature to Anakin knowing that the Jedi Order would jump at the opportunity to take down an active Sith Lord whom they believe was orchestrating the entire war.

Like you said on Felucia you had to deal with Acklays, or if you played as the empire on Endor you had to deal with Ewok’s, Jabba’s Palace both sides had to deal with the Gamorrean guards and the Rancor, in Mos Eisley you had neutral Jawa’s who’d build and repair shit. Just a lot of detail that was placed in such a game.

I like how this is written from the perspective of the original canon; NO inhibitor chips and the clones knew Order 66 was coming. They gained confidence in Order 66 on Mygeeto, and they felt remorse on Felucia knowing what was about to come. Of course once they made a show featuring the clones they didn't want their kid show protagonists to willingly be traitors so they made up the inhibitor chip in one of The Clone Wars' weaker written ideas.

naw. in old eu the clone were droid-like emotionless drones that just followed every order they were given. They were kind of badass, but they were also boring, and felt no different than droids. In the clone wars they were fleshed out a lot more and the show made the clones seem like real people. That was one of the greatest things about the show. However with making them real people you have to wonder why they'd ALL kill their friends without a second hesitation. The inhibitor chip was 100% necessary, and they did it in the best way possible. I like both ideas and consider them in separate universes. None is inherently bad they're both done well its just personal preference.

I just have one problem with it. How the fuck did the Jedi not know!? Clones are weak minded, easy to control with force persuasion. So how did not one Jedi not decide to read a clones mind? Not once did one grow curious about the army that came out of nowhere and decide to read ones mind? Or not over hearing them talking about it? Because you can not tell me they didn't talk about it with each other.

The way that the 501st clone refers to Aayla Secura, stating that: “It’s a good thing that we were wearing helmets because none of us could bare to look her in the eye.” Seems to be indicating that the clones had prior knowledge of Order 66 as the men of the 501st felt a level of remorse and sadness in regards to what was about to happen to Aayla. Can someone please clarify wether or not the clones consciously knew about Order 66 prior to Palpatine issuing it. NOTE: I know that the 501st account featured in this video is from Star Wars Battlefront which isn’t considered canon but I’d still like to know wether my observation holds any merit towards the actual canon timeline.

I'm glad that you covered the 501st journal on the Legends (aka Expanded Universe) side of the lore. However, I'd like to mention that the inhibitor chips were never part of Legends but were only introduced in our current Canon lore. In Legends, the Jedi weren't really all that chummy with their troops, making them disconnected to the clones. This is in stark contrast to FIloni's Clone Wars where we actually see the Jedi having good teamwork with their clone armies. On a side note, I was kinda hoping you were gonna mention about Aayla's death. As the Journal put it, "I hope she gets a quick death. That much, she deserved". Plot Twist: She didn't. She was shot in the back several times over by the Elite Star Corps, her own men. Her death was so bad that it made Yoda drop his cane as he felt it all the way from Kashykk. Kinda ironic that the clones that met her for a month or so had more sympathy towards her than the men that had fought alongside her since the start of the Clone Wars.

I used to always restart the mission if i died, so it would just always be the same soldier who was talking. In that playthrough i didnt even play as the heros/villains so i would continue playing as the protagonist. But I allowed myself to change classes bc a clone could always just pick up stuff from a dead brother, so I often chose the republic jet trooper. I really love that class, because whenever you get enough kills with their pistol, you would basically end up with jango fett because of the upgrade you get. Operation nightfall was the worst... especially killing the 3 jedi masters. After that I would say Hoth. Next would be either the space missions where you have to board the enemy ship or the death star mission, because I just got lost in the hallways a lot.

I think the Canonical order issue can be explained away as it being an old man remembering his experiences and writing them all down. The order of events in the campaign does make sense if you accept the notion that in the old EU the 501st operated in small special operations detachments spread across the Grand Army, which allows them to be many places at once. I see the Knightfall bit differently. I took it as they knew their whole purpose is completed after this last mission. What happens next? Last mission which will be the most demanding and risky fight for the 501st or any battalion to be honest. They all knew and had witnessed what Jedi are capable for, especially 501st whom had followed the chosen one, General Skywalker and his Padawan Ahsoka Tano, this little teenage girl who was capable of standing her ground against Jedi killing maniac cyborg general who had killed hundreds of Jedi by himself and she was teenager. What's inside the temple? Masters with decades, even centuries of training under their belt. The mental preparation for such battle even with any emotional ties towards the enemy would be very silent ride alone. Now they had to follow order to kill their allies and even friends. I mean, at this point who says Star Wars ain't art? That portion of the video was a masterpiece of a psychological war story done by few lines and proper delivery.

No, its definitely just good vs evil lol, and how one choose to be. A few stories may be framed in a more greyish area but the core concept is still there. We’ve seen time and time again that the galaxy do not need the Sith, nor does the Jedi need it. The Sith is a corrupt and selfish institution, like a plague, a harm to both the people of the galaxy and itself. The Force wanted most of the Jedi to be wiped because the Jedi Order too was corrupt and needed an overhaul. And that overhaul was succeeded by Luke, after Vader destroyed the Sith. Or at least that was the idea, until Palpatine/Snoke came back. But even with that, ultimately its the Jedi who survived in the end.

Well. I really like this take on the clones. It’s so gritty and pessimistic, it really paints a grim picture of the true nature of the Clone Wars. However this could be my personal bias, but I vastly prefer The Clone Wars tv show’s portrayal of the clones. Yeah it’s a lot more kid friendly, but the clones felt like they had so much more humanity to them. They felt like unique people, and I always loved the way they were used to re-contextualize Anakin Skywalker‘s character in the prequel trilogy era. You see he deeply cared about his troops, always leading the charge, never having them take risks he wasn’t willing to take personally, as well as forming friendships with them, often risking his life to save individual troopers. I really love how compelling it makes the tragedy of the clones, as when you boil it down, they are the victims of the clone wars. These soldiers Who valued their individuality more than anything had it stripped away from them and turned into nothing more mindless droids.
