5020 Dyno Run and Project Announcement

Travelled back in time to the dyno run of my 5020, which was done on the same day as the 4230 Turbo Build's dyno run. Seeing that snow really made me wish for some cool weather after what we have been dealing with this past week! After 6 months of finishing school and getting crops in the ground, we managed to clear a spot in the shop to start the build. I am looking forward to bringing this 5020 back to life, and taking you guys along with me. Thanks for watching, and I'll see ya on the next one!

I took inspiration from you guys and restored a John Deere myself. It's a model JS60. That would be a 21" push mower in case y'all were wondering. I did upgrade the engine to a 7hp while I was at it. She don't bog down in tall grass anymore.

I had a header built for my 5020 and I put a Borg Warner s362sxe turbo on. A lot better set up than the m&w. Never gets hot

When I get a hard pull on a wrench like that, I some times us a 1/4 ton come along to pull on the wrench. A small strap works well also to pull on a wrench that is hard to reach. Looking forward to the build.

that discoloration on the bearings is caused by water, or antifreeze, great video

@@RennerStockFarms if you catch green antifreeze in the oil depending on how long its been in there you may not need to change the bearings, but if red antifreeze gets in the oil you're bearings are done.

Good video, thanks for sharing part of your life. By overhaul do you mean just doing top end bc you we’re saying the bearings looked good? What fluid was seeping out behind the manifold and why?

Top end would be the cheaper option, but with the addition of the turbo kit I want to go through it all. The fluid was antifreeze and that just happened because the tractor hadn’t been worked hard in a very long time.

What kind of transmission does the 5020 have in it? Gear drive or the power shift? That looks like it will be a cool project. I got interested in this channel from watching Big Tractor Power here on KZbin and seeing that Detroit Diesel 8V71 5020. That was a cool tractor.

This one has a gear drive. The only way to get a powershift into a 5020 is getting a 760 scraper tractor and using its rear end. Thanks for watching Clinton!

After I'm done my 6.5 diesel too Duramax swap id like too Duramax swap a 4020 John Deere I've never done a swap before. Would it be possible to put a Duramax into a older John Deere. I'm not worried about making the Duramax run that's the easy part it's bolting up the Duramax to tractor that would scare me

That is absolutely a possibility. Making the adapter plate and frame rails is the hard part, everything else is gravy.

A 4020 won’t handle that. You’d have to step up to a 5020, and I would keep it below 400 horsepower
