Today was one of the 3 ‘Extended’ ‘Shakespeare Express’ with this one being the Worcester Shrub Hill - Stratford-Upon-Avon
The Locomotive booked for this trip was to be ex GWR Castle class 5043 ‘Earl Of Mount Edgcumbe’, the first outward down to stratford would see the locomotive take on the notorious 1in37.7 ‘Lickey Incline’. Unfortunately the 47 on the rear was to provide some assistance due to an amber fire risk as a result of the recent warm weather… the sound was still fantastic with plenty of other enthusiasts turning up to witness it also.
The chase would continue onto Widney Manor to see her at speed, this was no disappointment either. It was then decided after that the plan would go out the window and just be ‘winged’ as the route is known extremely well by me and having covered majority of locations numerous times it was a fair decision.
The final return leg would see the tour take to my local lines for this I did take some thinking as to where I’d go…. It was decided that me and Luke @blackcountrysteamvideos8021 would visit a spot north of droitwhich spa.. as I’d requested a tip off by the footplate crew.. the result being fantastic!
All in all it was a fantastic day for mainline steam again. Great to catch up with familiar faces during the course of the day too!
