Six route markers. 🤔 Would have been seven if US 63 still went this way. Guess we’ll see this bridge again in the US 61 series? 😁

You went through at the wrong time, that's for sure. The I-55 bridge predates the interstate system, which is why it's so narrow. There was talk years ago of building a third road bridge near Memphis, probably south of the city. If the Hernando de Soto closure can't get it built, nothing will. The Frisco Bridge was one of the longest bridges in the world when it opened. Memphis was the only place south of St. Louis with bridge crossings over the Mississippi River for many years.

That is a big long line of traffic. It looked like a parking lot.

Gee, this reminds me of a trip I had to take to the Orlando area last week...I-4...oh God...the horror...I feel ya!

I've only been on a short portion of I-4, between Lake Mary (where we stayed) and Universal Studios.

Also, there needs to be 2 more Mississippi River bridges near Memphis and West Memphis as part of an extended I-269 making that Interstate a full loop.
@504RoadTrips3 жыл бұрын
They really need to widen or replace the I-55 bridge. It's just too narrow to be carrying a major interstate. Considering that was their third attempt at a bridge there, you'd think they would have had the foresight to make it a little wider. I really wonder if getting rid of the 270 degree loop will even improve things, considering the bridge will still be a bottleneck with the increased flow of traffic.

@@504RoadTrips Given the age of the I-55 bridge and likely any unforseen problems with the I-40 bridge caused by the slipshod inspections, an I-269 bridge should be the next step and an immediate one.

Glad you survived! Looks like the bypass needs a bypass Now that you made it around this cloverleaf, you might be ready for the single-lane cloverleaf that continues I-95 onto Massachusetts 128 around Boston, also a 25-mph sharp curve.

Maybe when we retire, we'll make it up to the northeast. But that might not be for a while.

@@504RoadTrips- if your idea of retirement is to be stuck in traffic on a single lane clover leaf that carries the East Coast’s busiest interstate on some of the worst road engineering I have ever experienced, I will be in fervent prayer for you and a long career! 😂

No, I believe that was the last time we went through there.

I don't like the choice of Little Rock as the control for I-240 north It's better to take I-55 to I-40 anyways. Perhaps once I-69 comes in it will be changed.
@504RoadTrips2 жыл бұрын
It’s a really odd situation. Two bridges, two interstates, both going to the same place (ignoring the fact that I-40 was closed during the filming of this video). You’d think the control cities would be the same for either interstate.

Yes. They reopened the bridge at the beginning of August.
