I been Shreveport before. I entered from Interstate 49 which at the time ended at Highway 1 so we did the detour. I left Shreveport on Highway 171. This was back in early June of 2018.

Quite a bit has changed on the northern end of I-49 in Shreveport in the last couple of years. When we drove through there in July, it got dark before I got to that part, so I don't have any video of the final segment that opened most recently.

@@504RoadTrips Have you heard anything about how they will close the final gap in Shreveport?
@504RoadTrips4 жыл бұрын
@@coreysmith8560 I think it’s just going to be renumbering or concurrences with existing freeways.

i'm very surprised that LADOTD did not cover the overhead signage (or at least modify it to reflect the current traffic pattern) through the I-49 work zone on 220. leaving the signs intact/uncovered like that would be a big no-no in the northern states. also, what is the status of the "missing link" between 20 & 220 - are we more likely to see 49 routed along 220/Inner Loop Expwy instead of a direct connection to existing 49?
@504RoadTrips7 жыл бұрын
There's a lot of conflicting information. One option is to take it along the Inner Loop Expwy, which is currently a state highway, but I believe is limited access the whole way. That would truncate the last 3 or 4 miles of the current I-49 alignment between Inner Loop and I-20 (probably to become I-149 or something like that). They would also have to do some upgrades to the Inner Loop to make it fully compliant. I haven't driven it, but there is probably a lack of shoulders on some overpasses and bridges, as is typical of older Louisiana highways. The direct route would be the Inner City Connector, which would go directly between the incomplete junction in the video and the current I-20/I-49 interchange. But the obstacle is described as follows: "A direct connection, known as the Inner City Connector, is controversial since its path is projected through the residential Allendale neighborhood, which would necessitate the displacement of many of its residents." Now, if you check out the Allendale neighborhood on Streetview, it looks like it was a nice area at one time, with a mix of residential and light commercial, and an interesting terrace type layout. However, the majority of it is now empty lots. Most of the lots that aren't empty are heavily blighted. Of course, there are houses here and there that are meticulously kept up with manicured lawns and gardens, as you tend to see with old people who are still able to do these things. I don't know what the actual population density is, but I'm guessing that it's very low. The neighborhood looks like it was built in the 50s. There are probably a lot of remaining residents who are elderly, and can't keep up their property anymore. There doesn't appear to be any new development, and probably will never be. So it's a waiting game now. When the last of the elderly die off, they'll eminent domain the area and put the interstate through. Whoever the heirs are to all of those properties will get a check, and they should be happy with that, since there's not much else they can do with the property. But I don't think anything is going to happen any time soon. They've got it to within 2000 feet of I-220, and I'm sure we'll at least see that in the next year. That will allow you to drive from Texarkana to Lafayette without ever leaving a limited access highway.

@@504RoadTrips How long it took to fill the i49 gap?
@504RoadTrips6 жыл бұрын
S B it’s still not completely filled. But I think it’s as filled as it’s going to get. So about 30 years I guess.
