Unlike the rest of the vids, I'm with the lock on this one. The speaker comes underneath the shackle. When locked to something, it will be really tough to silence it without shaking it/triggering the alarm. Plus through out the video, LPL has his thumb going through the shackle space, something which he couldn't manage if it was locked in the first place. Surely he could pick it open from another angle, but that would increase chances of triggering the alarm. The video is already long enough and with the above conditions factored in, I would say this is a tough pick (Unless Bosnian Bill and he decided to make a special too for this!)

The lock would have been better if the key itself completed a circuit so the alarm would still go off without the key or at least a bit of metal connecting the contacts.
@111chicane6 жыл бұрын
Chalky , That would have been extremely hard and expensive for manufacturing since it's all metal. Imagine individually insulating the pins from the core and connecting them to the electronic board through the rotating core... Impossible! Better off placing a switch behind the core to be pressed by the tip of the key while inserted all the way in. But it's still unnecessary complication of the design. It's good enough the way it is. No-one will attempt picking this lock when there are much easier ways to open it.

(I suspect it can be shaken hard once) This video is 5 years old and probably one of the most awesome padlocks I’ve seen. Edit: seriously he said it took him a couple tries. That means field picking it would be tough. Having set the alarm off going into a false gate. Picking a lock the first time is usually the hardest part. The brain instinctively recognizes patterns and the second and 4th and 6th time gets easier. I’m not denying LPL is a pro. I’m just saying if this lock is within earshot of a security guard. I think it's a nice touch to get the sound alarm, because it could be very helpful if you are close to the padlock, but not in direct sight. Downside is that it can give you a false sense of security, such that if you don't hear the alarm you'd think everything is fine and dandy, while in the mean time one is loose, so is two and there is a click out of three..
@aphenclips86237 жыл бұрын
Hmmm... maybe make the lock sound like a fire alarm. People have a tendency to help more if its a fire than a crime. Also, almost everyone has learned to ignore car alarms. If I was turning this into a challenge lock though I'd probably turn the warning sound into a random wave file of mocking comments to the challenger and not allow the full alarm go off. Great Video!

Hey LPL: would you by chance be interested in doing a "beginner's guide" video for lockpicking? Maybe where you highlight some important-shaped picks to collect for starting out and maybe pointing out how to tell the difference between some basic core types? I'd love to get into it myself and start practicing but I have no idea where to start!

New idea for lockpickers, rig up a machine to jostle the lock at a set time and throw away the key so you have to pick the lock to silence the alarm. Alarm (c)lock!

If you are in the dark and you don't imidiately know that it's an alarm lock, you might very easily miss that and set it off

I think an important thing to note is that a lot of these different kinds of locks that can be bypassed can have a place. This lock could be used in a location that you may not have your eye on at all times but you will come close to often enough.

Watch episode 507 :) just a crowbar and a hammer and two seconds of time. Also, a lot of people are saying that weather ruins this lock, it keeps going off for no reason as well (possibly stronger wind) which makes it counter-productive, etc. Also, it's easy to ruin the speaker with various liquids.

It may not have triggered the alarm, but anything that lasts longer than 40 second in this channel is probably good enough for every day use

They need a trigger sensor in the lock to sense when it is being picked!
@ItsBoyRed7 жыл бұрын
how would that work? It would go off even if you open it with the key.

1 second delay
@Brandonator3657 жыл бұрын
༺Boy Red༻ Simple. Just let the lock give the person a second or so to open it before triggering the alarm, or maybe sensing which pins are being pushed in before others, and using that to determine whether or not the alarm would go off. This thing is Chinese, though, so I wouldn’t expect it from this lock.
@Menelyagor127 жыл бұрын
One way I could think of is SOMEHOW being able to detect the time between each pin being set. If you insert the key, all the pins would pretty much instantly be set, where as a lock picker goes in pin by pin.

I seem to be way late to this video, thanks algorithm. You'd never be able to hold a lock like that if it was in use. Would a different hold mean you have less grip and therefore more likelihood to jostle it?
