“$50B orgy of spending”: Poilievre mocks Trudeau for latest federal budget

The day after the 2024 federal budget was released, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh exchanged quips in the House of Commons on Wednesday, during the first question period since the fiscal plan was made public.
“Who pays for this latest $50 billion orgy of spending by this costly prime minister?” Poilievre asked. “We know who won't pay - It won't be those with trust funds that protect their millions of inheritance like the prime minister, nor the billionaires that invite him to their private Caribbean islands.”
Trudeau retaliated by saying that it was “interesting to see the lengths” to which Poilievre would go to avoid admitting that he was “choosing to stand with the ultra-wealthy against the middle class, against young Canadians.”
Meanwhile, Singh said that young people “know they’re getting ripped off” because of corporate greed, blaming it for driving up the cost of living. He also claimed that the Conservatives get angry whenever corporate greed is mentioned because it means the NDP are “taking on their masters.”

Yeah. Yeah it really is. I got my elec and gas bill. I used $9 in gas and I was charged a total of just over $60 in all the fees and taxes. In Canada they can literally levy a tax on a tax. Because the massive salaries of senior directors and other high skill and high salary workers skew the averages high. Provincial employees are appx $70,000. It might be counter-intuitive but history has shown the best way to increase tax revenue is to promote economic activity and investment, not the opposite which is increasing the tax rate. Example: the revenue of 10% tax on $1000 is more than 15% tax on $500. Reagan did exactly this.

They are doing everything that they can to make sure that honest people will not be able to afford to keep a home. They will make it so that people will have to "share" their home or be taxed in to poverty. We are not ultra wealthy, just average middle class. We bought a little acreage in rural Alberta and built a small seasonal cabin on it over the years. This is our happy place and where we spend vacation time. The increase in capital gains inclusion will drastically affect what we realize when we have to sell to fund retirement.
