Hi FPV friends 🙌🏻,
Im back with a new Disco FPV flight.
It took a while before I could make a flight with the disco again. The flight conditions in the Netherlands were not optimal in the past period. It was raining or the wind was just blowing too hard for my flight goals. During this flight I covered a total distance of 50km. I used 68% of the lion batteries for this. The next flight I will try to cover a distance of 70 km. Before I do this I will prepare this flight well. Stay tuned.

I've been wanting to do this mod for a very long time and it is awesome!
Disco4G is a software modification (softmod) for the Parrot Disco drone. Instead of the built-in regular Wi-Fi, it allows to use a 4G/LTE cellular/mobile network connection to link Skycontroller 2 to the Disco. Control/telemetry and live video stream are routed through the 4G/LTE connection. In other words, range limit becomes your imagination! Ok, to be fair, it's still limited by the battery capacity 😜

Nice clean setup you have there, did the same with my GPS tracker too. I was going to say if you feel like building a battery you can get even more time, I made a 3s2p out of 21700 cells thats good for about 10,000 MAH. Involves trimming the battery bay a little but not too bad and so far I usually have over 60% batt life left after one hour

Goodluck they r hard to find and prices r goin up everyday. U got to have the right remote also and all the hardware it'll run u over 2k. Plus u got to program it urself good that's free though but not easy. I would have done did it if it wasn't 1k for the airplane from the factory though.

@@2DC24 people have made these lithium ion packs that last forever. Right now im running a 5200 mah i get about an hr of flight. I would suggest looking into lithium ions they are the ones who are doing 40 milers

Nice, mooie beelden! Mijn persoonlijke record met de 4G Disco is 55km, daarna was ik ook blij dat ik weer terug was want op laatst wordt 't best vermoeiend. Tenminste, als je een FPV bril draagt. Mijn maat vloog dezelfde dag 65km met z'n Disco. Ik had bij terugkomst nog 45% accu capaciteit! Het is een fenomenaal vliegtuigje. Het is alleen jammer dat het lastig is een goede 4K camera te monteren met beeldstabilisatie. Ik heb het eens geprobeerd met een Osmo pocket maar was daar niet zo blij mee gezien het gewicht en het is vrijwel onmogelijk een goede montageplek te vinden met die ellendige pitotbuis op de Disco :-P Gelukkig is de standaard camerakwaliteit acceptabel zo lang het maar mooi weer is. Onze ervaring is dat de focus slecht wordt bij lagere temperaturen. Happy flying!

Hey, Dank voor je berichtje die ik nu pas zie. Sorry voor mijn late reactie. Geweldig toestel is het. Ik vlieg niet met bril maar met een tablet. Geeft voor mij iets meer rust tijdens de vlucht. Ik heb nu vakantie en dus weer iets meer tijd. Dus het is weer eens tijd voor een longe range flight. Beeld kwaliteit vindt ik wel prima. Bij het editen zet ik de beelden wel om naar 4k. Dit scheelt een hoop als je het kijkt op KZbin via je tv. Fly safe bro Greets

The focus problem of the lens due to the decrease in temperature can be solved by installing a small heater on the lens barrel. If you take apart the $3 hand warmer, you can get all the materials you need, including an automatic temperature sensor and a control circuit

@ It's not longer in production anymore sadly. So you have to be pre-owned. So it's really up to how the seller is. Sad as there aren't any drones like it out there right now, unless you build your own, but that's an entire other field park.

awesome video.. could this set up be used to film videos after a disaster like a tornado to capture the damage and surveil the area? is the video resolution high enough? like to wear it could be paused and zoom into look at roof damage and building damage? sorry that's a lot of questions I saw some for sale for about a thousand bucks on eBay but then there's all the other equipment that needs to be purchased also. what kind of a price tag would you put on the total setup?

The disco is available between 300 to whatever you want to pay for it. I never paid more as 250 Euro's for all of mine (got a few) , but since than the prices went up a bit The worst problem is sourcing the 4G DONGLE , the exact right model otherwise it won't work.. Batteries are still okay to find, and all Software is still online. You need to find someone who understands command line on windows. Since you need to tweak both the Sky controller and the Disco's C.H.U.C.k (the red thing inside) .. So overall, exclusive the Disco you are on: 2x24 dollar{ZOHD LIONPACK 7.4V 2S1P 3500mAh 18650 Li-ion}, let's say 50-80 dollar depending on your shop. Dongle was about 20 euros for me. Some cables, easy to find on Amazon or whatever, to combine both batteries (a splitter) . So overall I've not been over 250$/€ for the 4G long range setup.

Hi brother, Flying over water is not a problem in itself. Ultimately what will be the challenge is the 4g coverage you may not have anymore. That is why you will have to plan your flight well and check in advance whether you have 4g coverage everywhere. You can find these 4g coverage maps on the internet. Only then will you maintain a controlled flight. Another option is to make a Waypoint flightplan. You can then map out a route using Waypoint. In this mode, the disco flies autonomously. Ultimately, the battery remains the determining factor of how far you can fly.

I fly DJI quads with an average of 22 minutes of flying time and 6 miles round trip maximum distance attainable, but I do plan on buying a flying wing for longer forays. 50 Kilometers is an absolutely phenomenal range for this flying wing, for sure. Since this mod relies on the 4G phone network, am I right in assuming there must be 4G cellphone towers within view of the drone's flight path, in order for the control signal and video link to work without interruption? Also how fast on average do you normally fly this wing? It looks quite low at 150 feet above the ground. Finally, can you program the wing to fly a saved flight waypoint plan without any pilot input?

Hi there, Thanks for stopping by. I know, only with those solar panels you only ensure that your battery runs out less quickly. It doesn't mean you can fly endlessly. And apart from that, you don't always have enough sun to generate energy.

@@DutchFPVguy ...many are building 10,500 maH batteries using NINE individual cells 18650s. If you go this route, use high-quality Japanese cells. If you go for a massive battery( ill-advised until you have flown many times), be aware that you will need to mod you Disco's battery bay. This "mod" is slang for "foam removal." Using a Dremel tool, etc. CG (Center of Gravity) very important in any aircraft, big or small.
