I play this for my bird Susie and she responds as though Smokey was in the next cage. Thank you for sharing. My Susie is in love.

Hi Nancy, Aw that's sweet. I should do some more vids, maybe on the training I've been doing with smokes or some more 'noise'. 🤣

cuteness plus! a couple surrendered their 20 year old Timneh to our small Sanctuary 4 years ago. a very unhappy boy. untouchable....and why he was surrendered. It was love at first sight for me. after a month of getting nowhere with him...I decided to give him a new name for a new start. I recited a list of names...asking him to nod when I hit a good one. he reacted to two names so his name became Barnabus-Beauregard. he loves his name and immediately his personality began to bloom. since he's quite a biter...he had not been pet or handled in many years. they never taught him the step-up command. so sad. over this last year we've progressed to him letting me pet his head with a long feather from my---molted feather collection I keep by his cage. at first he attacked the feather. time after time. then? one day he let me rub the feather all over his face and the front of his neck. just when I was feeling all chill with him...he would suddenly attack the feather. grabbing it from me and tearing it to pieces. would give me a horrid adrenaline rush 🥵every time. recently he's given me a break from scaring me half to death and let's me pet him with the feather. I ask permission. "may I pet you with my feather?" and he'll bob his head up and down. that's big progress 🙌 slow but seemingly sure. he has begun taking peanuts in the shell from my fingers. without trying to bite my finger. more progress! he does not speak. he does the Grey whistle when showing happiness like if he wants me to pet his head with the peanut before he cracks it open. so cute and the peanut resembles a finger. and he loves being pet. just not with a hand. we're moving right along. he was very upset for the first year snd a half that his parents' who had him from the time he was a baby...just got tired if cleaning up after him and...chose to give him up. he felt abandoned. he's pretty happy now. I tell him stories and he loves that attention. Your Smokey is great!! looks like Barnabus-Beauregards' doppelgänger. so cute. well? I sure enjoyed listening to Smokey for 50 minutes. now I know what my boy is capable of as we continue working to help him be all he can be. I feel very inspired by Smokey! he's quite a fun character!! I'll be showing this video to Barnabus-Beauregard tomorrow for inspiration!🙌♥️ thank you for sharing this video!🏆

I recently adopted a five year old female Timneh. She is sweet, gentle,, smart and, compared to my nanday conure, extremely sensitive to all changes in her environment. I'm watching Barbara Heidenreich's videos (goodbirdinc.com) for training guidance-- these grays can learn a lot with force free training and positive reinforcement!! *My avian veterinarian recommended Barbara's video. Pamela Clark, and Susan Friedman (parrot behavioral analysis solutions) are also quite good.

You know what, I used to look for videos of AG's to play to mine but wasn't much available hence I made this one. 😊 I'm glad it's being used as such. 👍🏻

If you truly want to give him videos to listen to, hook him up with Einstein or Gizmo videos. They talk constantly, each with amazing vocabularies!

Hello! I have a Timneh Grey, Luna, and I noticed that it looks like Smokey is picking feathers in the same place as Luna - how old is Smokey and how old was he when he started picking the top edge of wing near the shoulders (and under the wings?)? Have you figured out the cause? Luna is 22 years old and she started this 2 years ago after I moved to Florida from California. I've been trying to figure this out for the past 2 years with little success.

Hi Stassa, yeah smokey is 14 years & started plucking a few years ago due to the passing of a family member. He is so much better but I as my workshops have ground to a halt due to covid I took on a part time job as a covid tester. Unfortunately smokey started to pluck again as I was out till lunchtime but now my daughter spends that time with him which helps. It's a slow going resolve isn't it, I'm guessing Luna started due to the move & as you know it takes a while for them to fully get used to change. Has Luna improved?

For Luna, it was a combination of environment and move. She developed dermatitis under her wings, which lead to her removing the feathers. She always picked a little under the wings, but never got dermatitis. So, this caused her picking to get out of hand. Over the years I have created a cage environment and special routine that I use if I need to leave the house. This has allowed me to leave for over 8 hours at a time without her picking. I've also come to know her triggers. For example, if I leave and must return after dusk, I have to have the light on a timer so that it turns off when it becomes dark outside. Also, I can't have her door locked if I'm at home and in another room talking to people. When she hears the "flock" conversing, she wants to be part of it and gets extremely frustrated. As of today, her feathers are growing back (legs, flank, shoulders, some on the under-wing area) nicely following her infection in February. But, she will probably always have the bare spot in the under-wing wing-pit area. I have been using colloidal silver water as a periodic mist. I mist her beak and inside her mouth, her feet, under her wings, her lower back, and her legs. I also discovered during her last bought of dermatitis that benzoyl peroxide 2.5% cream as a spot treatment worked well to reduce the infection. Also, very mild bleach baths (first, I would completely wet her with warm water, then using a squeeze bottle filled with warm ~.023% hypochlorous acid solution (50/50 ratio of distilled water and HypoCleanse 550 ppm solution) I would saturate her entire body, avoiding the eyes. Before the bath, I would warm a towel in the dryer. I'd also warm her room up to 80 F. After the bath, I gently wrapped her in the towel and light pressed around her body to absorb the water. I would then move her to a dry portion of the towel and repeat. Then, I put her on top of her cage. It's a little daunting because it's very uncomfortable for her to be handled so much and she shivers like crazy from the bath. It takes her about 15 minutes to relax from the shock of the procedure. BUT, this was amazingly helpful to stop the dermatitis (which I believe was fungal in origin).

Why are there boxes in the upper part of his cage?
