Thanks for the video. Very helpful. Videos are so much better than books! Don't be too harsh on the last guy that painted over everything, even though it was sloppy. Sea Doo actually says to paint over any exposed surfaces in their tech manual. I'd rather have a crappy paint job than corroded parts. You can always strip paint off but you can't add pitted metal back.

I marine repair for a living but I don't do much on skis . But I have done a lot of carbs in my life in automotive and marine applications. If you are going to do any kind of carb over hauls you really need a solvent or carb dip at they say to boil carbs. The passages get dirt and rust and crud inside and will block the fuel passages . You have to boil the carb and then rinse it out and blow out all the passages or you will end up with blocked circuits in the carb and end up with a bad running engine after you have installed the repair kit. Another thing that is critical is anytime you rebuild carbs always , always replace the fuel filter, If you don't the dirty filter could dump dirt water and rust into your rebuilt carb. A gallon of carb dip is fairly in expensive and comes with a small basket inside for all your small parts. Don't skimp other wise you may get stranded on your ski.

At 31:54 in the video there are clear plastic discs. The discs I got in my kit had a top and bottom. The discs had a white stripe to show what side was to face outwards. The parts sheet that came with the rebuild kit had this information on the back. 50sKid is one of the best Sea Doo mechanics I have ever seen online. Great video. I would never have tried this without this video. Sorry kid, i greased my needle o rings. No offense.

Do all these carbs have an integral fuel pump, or do some systems use a remote pump? My Tigershark with Suzuki 900 triple has a fuel pump that runs off crankcase vacuum.

What interval do you use for carb rebuilds ?? is it an every season kind of thing ? Checking since we just got a 787 SPX and its not hard but not the easiest if needles get stuck/jam up over time. Also, do you use anti seize on any of the carb exterior bolts ? and mounting to the block?

@50sKid8 жыл бұрын
Yes it needs to go back on the same way. The nice thing about this engine is it has a timing mark on it (it's a little arrow or notch on the case). You put piston 1 at top dead center and then put the valve plate on aligned with the mark. There are some videos on KZbin on how to use a degree wheel to set timing on a seadoo. Check those out to see how it's done.

To Everyone: I personally highly recommend using official Mikuni Carb Kits (Not Aftermarket Like Jet Ski Plus even though they have somewhat decent quality) Mikuni Has the Best Quality Parts that will prevent air leaks (Especially if you have a high Popoff Pressure) Not to mention they are the best parts that were actually made to Exact Specs and Quality Standards for those carbs. If you decide to do aftermarket, do it at your own risk.
@shannonwilliams6016 жыл бұрын
And this carburetor setup has a small cable that runs your oil pump you always want to check your oil pump alignment with a mirror it has two tick marks that must be lined up at idle speed if you get this wrong it will burn your motor up or it will foul your plugs

Either the carb needs to be rebuilt (there is a fuel pump built into the carb) or there is something wrong with the fuel switch unit that is preventing fuel flow.

@colbyharris19248 жыл бұрын
I love the video but what do I do if I'm not getting pop of pressure the vacume pump lines go flat around 22psi.
@50sKid8 жыл бұрын
If 22psi is not within spec for your model, you bend the little "arm" that lifts up the needle valve. Push it down on the spring side first, which would lift the needle up, then bend the arm that lifts the needle up or down to increase or decrease pressure. don't push down on the needle side and bend the spring side because putting pressure on the needle can damage its rubber tip.
@colbyharris19248 жыл бұрын

The tether switch is a critical piece bro. It works as a safety switch so if you fall on the water that switch will kill the engine. I don't recommend you bypassing it or using a different type of switch.

thanks for the video. I got a question though. My seadoo runs good for like two minutes then it starts boggin and I can only run it on idle speed. Do you have any idea what it could've been? is it related to the carbs. thanks.

Might be a fuel delivery issue. Check for clogged fuel lines, bad fuel sending unit, that sort of thing.
@cameraman12345678904 жыл бұрын
Do a Popoff Pressure test. If it doesnt seal properly, that means it will have a fuel pressure leak
@asaleh994 жыл бұрын
TCircuitry is fuel pressure leak fixable?
@cameraman12345678904 жыл бұрын
@@asaleh99 Yes. There is a rubber seal he showed in the video that you put in on top of the O-Ring that goes around the carb filter. This rubber Seal MUST NOT leak and must be airtight. Your Needle Valve for the metering chamber also must not leak. If you pump during your test and the pressure doesnt hold or falls, when gas is in the carbs when you are trying to start the boat, that air leak will cause a fuel pressure leak, causing the fuel pump to work harder or just not build up pressure at all so you have no pressure to take off and its completely untunable. When I Test my popoff on my carbs, I spray the rubber seals with WD40 before closing it up to simulate gasoline helping the rubber make an airtight seal and so it doesnt go in dry.

hi thanks for the vid - just pulled my single from a 92 seadoo sp - I have a question. The pulse plate, as i took it off from the outside - (is this correct? the plastic gasket goes directly onto first oring and metal?). I got 2 identical gaskets here which is why im asking). outer plate paper gasket plastic film sandwich plate (with large oring) rubber gasket that blocks the big round ring but is open at the fuel filter and a side ring carb base (with fuel filter etc) When I reassembled the plate and applied 5psi to pulse tube, i got bubbles leaking out between the plastic film and paper gasket next to it - no scratches to the aluminum seal lip, etc. Does the plastic film pulse back and forth? I ordered the cheap set and used mostly original parts as they were still good, my diaphragm had a pin hole in it. Fyi my pop off is at 29psi - right in the ball park. Also - when i do the suck/blow test on inlet/out - the inlet has a noticeable difference (in = easier obviously), but the out seems to have the same resistance in or out - what could case this? I didnt change the plastic washers - not sure if the original kit was better quality. The diaphragm that came out had the pink original mikuni pin - so using as little from kit as possible. thanks!
@50sKid7 жыл бұрын
Your single should be identical to the one I showed in the video that had the pump diaphragm in it (I don't remember the order from memory, so I would suggest just referring to the video)
@fstarockaburns4257 жыл бұрын
50sKid hi thanks yes I verified it on the manual. mine kept leaking past plastic and gasket even at 3 psi so skinned lightly with permatex ultra , all good now. @50sKid8 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom, I would imagine you can just drain the oil then cut and plug off the two oil feed lines going to the pump. However, I would encourage you not to do that. The oil pumps on this engine are extremely reliable and don't have a history of failure.

Several of these vid's illustrate testing the 'pop off pressure' but nobody explains how the carb regulates its internal fuel level. I understand why they don't use a conventional float and bowl as the attitude of the watercraft will not be constant. Exactly how does the carb know it needs fuel admitted to it?
@50sKid6 жыл бұрын
These carbs have an internal fuel pump that uses the engine vacuum.

@Robert-yf4ws4 жыл бұрын
Good Video but I would not recommend investing in this vacuum pump. After watching this video I bought one to find out if you ever need to rebuild a Yamaha carb, lets say an 1100 the pop off pressure is around 50psi and this one only goes up to around 30 and when you go that high on the pump it puts a lot of stress on the pin that the lever pulls on and will eventually break.

And also when you're setting your jets those settings can vary a quarter of a turn so if they were way off it has to be put in the water and tested because the manufacturer even says that the settings can vary a quarter of a turn on your high and your low speed Jets just because it runs good on the trailer doesn't mean it will in the water
