had the same problem no power no light no nothing. Injected 3.3v from the serial port and it started to work. Replaced the capacitor like you did and it solved the problem thank you for the video!

Wow ! Great. It means the power supply is dead, but the next circuit is okay.

@@the_vccground 5V input was fluctuating and thus the 3.3V rail was not stable. I just replaced the cap thanks to your tip and it works fine now.

I tried your modification and indeed it worked, but after a month or so, I got the same connection problems as before. What worked for me until today is to program the sonoff basic with de tasmota-light version (not het minimal-version!). It seems all the extra stuff that is in the standard-tasmota version, makes the ESP8266 draw more power while attempting to connect via WiFi. With the aging power-supply not up to this task, the connection problems start showing. Using the trimmed down tasmota-light version, I have no more connection-issues with the older sonoff basic units. Hopes this helps anyone struggling with this issue.

I have a Sonoff basic. I was using esphome on it. But yesterday I flashed Tasmota. After that wifi is not connecting. In your video you replaced capacitor to 1000mf and also added 104 ceramic. Should I just replace capacitor or add the 104cap. Because after adding 104 wifi was still not connecting.

Greetings vccground - Great Content!!! Can I power the Sonoff Basic R2 with 12V DC battery as is or would I have to remove that capacitor and connect at those terminals as shown in your video or other method? Also would the draw on the 12v battery be low? Thanks ...🙂
@the_vccground

It won't work as is. Connect directly at both capacitor legs. No need to remove capacitor if it is of 16v or higher ratings.
