It looks like Nunoco doesn’t exist any more. I love the idea of getting 3 related batts. This was a helpful video for me as a new spinner-I don’t even have a default yet! 😂😂😂

I’m really glad it was helpful! Nunoco no longer exists but Spin Jones on Etsy is one half of the partnership that used to be Nunoco.

As someone brand new to spinning, this is a whole world of interesting I am so very excited to get into. I don't have a wheel yet, but I have a drop spindle I made myself out of an old game CD, a chair dowel and some Christmas ornament wire, and a LOT of determination. Sock yarn is so very expensive where I live and not at all in the right colors, which prompted me to want to make my own. I'm going to love this series, I think- Even if it's 2 years later~!

When I started spinning in the 80s everyone I knew was spinning in the grease. I didn't have any contact with spinners after that and only came back to spinning sporadically over the years. When I decided to pull Flossy, (My wheel) out of hibernation in 2015 a whole new world opened up. I found so much on KZbin. I found Ravelry. I found podcasts and then I found my local guild. Since then I have been exploring so much and trying a lot of different things. I think I am finally setting on a couple of default spin. I either do a two ply fingering or a chain ply, around sport weight. These seem to be the weight I use most in knitting.

Isn’t it interesting how tastes change in spinning? Not that nobody spins fleece in the grease any more but it’s definitely not as prevalent as it once was. For all its potential downsides, I think social media has really helped spinners connect and share ideas and experience. It’s always so good when your default yarn matches the weight you normally knit with. 😃

Social media definitely has some bad points, but I have learnt more in the last two years from KZbin than I have learnt over my whole spinning life. With spinning in the grease you had to be a lot pickier with what you got. Now you can salvage a not so clean, or old fleece by washing and prepping.

Hi I don’t yet have a default spun yarn as I’m yet to restart spinning after 30yrs absence. My default commercial yarn as a user is singles yarn in Aran or chunky weight. I’m at the collecting resources stage of my journey and your podcasts are proving invaluable. My old wheel is an Ashford from 1980 with a single treadle.

I’m late to the game just starting 51 yarns. I’ve spun on and off for several years but I’m making an attempt at being serious so I don’t really have a default yet. I’m having fun and trying to accept what comes off the wheel while developing new techniques,

Hi Becks! Girl u said a mouth full ....spinning yarn that isn't your default! My journey is just like yours ..even the same wheel :) but this year I was on a journey to change my default..spin thicker...after spinning 4 oz and only getting 90 yards I was like..ugh..NO! So I too control it with my plying which is a traditional 3 ply. Great episode and it always fun to see the evolution of our spinning.

I’ve been spinning since the 1980’s and I find the fleece dictates my default yarn. I will sit and experiment with how the fleece feels and it just happens. So, a Shetland fleece always likes to be spun as a four ply weight, a Romney an Aran weight etc.

Hi Becks! I am a new spinner (1 1/2 years). I have moved passed the worst of the thick and thin stage (thank heavens). I am sloooooowly moving to spinning finer singles. My default is currently a DK to worsted weight three ply.

Hi Maggie! Well done for conquering the thick and thin stage! You’ll get to a point where you want to spin thicker again and it’s really tricky to do. 😂 It’s funny how your muscle memory develops as time goes on.

(comes in four years late) somehow I seem to have skipped directly to stage 2. As a beginner I struggle to make anything that *isn't* super thin. I keep trying to make thicker yarns because I actually like somewhat chunky yarns but I keep finding it getting thinner and having to correct course... My default is a thin woollen or semi-wollen yarn I think.

Hi Beck's! My default spin is a worsted two ply fingering weight. 😁

Spinning since 1994. I pretty much spin lace to fingering weight by default. It is really hard for me to spin any other way.

Thanks for your comment Gertrude! I’m the same - I can spin different weights but I have to really concentrate or it just goes back to lace weight!

My default yarn is a 3-ply sport weight. It's a real struggle to get thicker.

I know the feeling - I need to work on my consistency when I'm trying to spin thicker yarn.

What kind of wheel are you using in this video?

Hi Hollie, this one is a Schacht Matchless.

My default yarn is worsted fingering weight two ply. This is the kind of yarn I enjoy working with the most, so that's a perfect match with comfort spinning and comfort knitting. For a 100 g or so gradient yarn, I think that the asymmetric triangle like Hitchiker would show it off really well. Also Pretzel by JumperCables looks like it would make a very interesting gradient project. My Instagram handle is @citikas.

Hi Vaire, thanks for your comment. I agree it’s great when your default yarn corresponds with the yarn you use most. Then you get twice the joy from it! I’d considered Hitchhiker but I’ll have a look at Pretzel as well - thanks for the recommendation.
