Glad to see I wasn't the only one struggling for grip. You just need a permanent passenger ballast

Dorito Drifto! Curious that the rear traction was notably bad but not the fronts. You hypothesis on the rears being heat cycled out could be accurate but what could cause the current rears to be so but not the fronts? Lack of tire rotations? Were the rears at this event recently on the front? I feel like the RX8 uses and heats all fours together. Maybe Falken sent you two older tires?

date codes match, but maybe my burnouts or street driving is playing a role. will rotate tires and see how it feels this weekend

Did you get a chance post event to check front/rear durometers? Any significant deltas?
@rx8matt3 ай бұрын
Yes, the rears seem a few points harder. i don't want to change too many variables so i will swap front/rear and see how the car feels this weekend.

New tires needed or the track temps were low?
@rx8matt3 ай бұрын
@@giorx5 probably the former. Track had okay temp, still couldn't get much heat in them. Typically a sign they are heat cycling out

yo matt , just curious if you would possibly know. My 04 has a "dead" spot around 6500-8k.. pulls strong till 6500 ish then feels like it plateau's ( feels held back ) and then around 8500 ish it comes back to life.. was curious if you might know what it could be ? love the uploads , as always !

hard to say without a datalog. i would data log AFR, timing, knock, and MAF. you want to see consistently growing mass airflow, proper intake valve actuation, reasonable air fuel ratios, and nothing strange with knock or timing.

Damn the car is such a handful. How many events are on the tires? Do you daily them? I've heard the RT660's wear amazingly well but heat cycle pretty quick. Would suck if they are already hockey pucks.
@rx8matt3 ай бұрын
put them on at the start of season. 18 autocrosses (call it 110+ runs) and a hillclimb event with i think 10 runs
@meyerautox3 ай бұрын
@@rx8matt Okay so they have gone through quite a bit so some drop is expected. I do find it surprising that the rears are giving up before the fronts. Are your tire temps usually hire in the rear? On my car the fronts go through pain, rears just along for the ride. So I rotate them at every event. Didn't like the understeer at this event, hope its not the tires falling off.
@rx8matt3 ай бұрын
@@meyerautox the fronts and rears heat very similarly, although the dual oil coolers in the nose also help heat the fronts.

Are you liking the ohlins R&T more than the PSS? I’m tempted to get the PSS based on so much good feedback, and great price- plus the rear travel of the R&T suspension gives me pause for the cost.
@rx8matt3 ай бұрын
Yes, the ohlins are a bit nicer than my custom bilstein based setup. i did not have the PSS, but i would be inclined to give them a try. The ohlins are more stable at corner entry and suit my driving style better. i have not seen any issues with rear travel (either insufficient bump and droop) and i am a big fan of travel. you can see in my pictures that despite dramatic body movement my inside rear is not lifting.
@Sbailey2943 ай бұрын
Right! You had made your setup. Well that’s great feedback. I used to live in the NE and go to the Midatlantic events as well. Love your videos. I’m actually worried about the R&T having lack of travel where I live now, roads are so much worse than the NE Sakebomb sells an extended travel R&T coilover kit just for that reason
@rx8matt3 ай бұрын
@@Sbailey294 for bad roads I think the pss kit would be a great option. Slightly softer and longer travel. Cost and affordable rebuilds are nice advantages to the PSS
