Out of 10 VW restorers on the youtubes, 9 are hacks. This guy is the 1 exception to that rule. Very nice and proper quality work. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Amazing watching Larry the Craftsman massage and form the metal to his desire. After seeing the Incredible job he did on the previous beetle, I'm really looking forward to seeing the transformation of the Ragtop! Thank you Larry for welcoming us into your beautiful shop and thank you Jay for providing this great content for all of us to enjoy. I know it's a whole lot of work to make this happen, but we certainly appreciate it. So glad I subscribed to your channel.

I still haven't wrapped my brain around that this Beetle will be restored and look as nice as the 65 vert Larry did. I am so excited to witness the 59's transformation as well. Also I am soooo grateful to Larry ( for many things ) for showing us the work and letting me film it. Thank you for the support and kind words, we appreciate it.

I like to have a gap too. but I dont show that very much because it is harder for most people to learn to fill it. I do like to start at the corner first so I can peel the old metal back. a bit more. It is a bit easier. Still wont warp if you do tacks all the way along.

Now I have only done 1 beetle in my day but I have done all kinds of other cars with a big emphasis on g-body and Camaro. I have always tried to run as hot as possible when triggering in welds on sheetmetal. It's a bit of a bugger no to burn through but you end up with a much flatter weld. Flatter welds mean penetration and way less grinding and thinning of the metal.
