My new favorite game! Just love the art, mechanics, smooth game play, enough interaction and a lot options :)

Yeah we ended up throwing both expansions in together after playing a few games too, we've never found any real differences between New Era and Winter in the new version, whereas the older version seemed to play quite differently.

Glad I'm not the only one! It really does make the clean up so much faster.

I feel like maybe the factions could be more asymmetric by having some unique power (e.g. Merchants can force production/feature/action card switch).
@GettingGames8 жыл бұрын
Agreed, a single special action for each would have been a very nice addition and also more in line with the publishers usual style.

+JonGetsGames Sounds like an ideal expansion opportunity which can add even more replayability and flavor.

Hi Jon, loved the review. How would you say does the Master Set compare to the original version (51st State, New Era, Winter)? Some rules have been changed, eg. rule of three that limits point conversion and urges player to constantly rethink their engine. At first glance, the Master Set looks more friendly and forgiving. Looking forward to your thoughts! :)

Unfortunately I've never had a chance to play the original 51st State, so I can't really give a comparison.

23:11 TAKE IT BACK :'( Just kidding, I'm not that upset about your comment, but I really love Settlers' art style, so freaking cute. But I also love the art on this one.

Good review. Did you play with the mini expansion that comes with the pre-order?
@GettingGames8 жыл бұрын
I didn't have the opportunity. I was sent a review copy from Portal, and unfortunately for me that didn't include the pre-order bonuses.

This video is over 7 years old now, but in just watching it today for the first time I noticed you didn’t say that you have to discard 2 workers in order to get a Connection card. That way, it’s another option for spending your workers. You don’t just take the cards. That may be why you felt like it was tacked on. 😁

Well, my imperial settlers vs 51 state question has been answered lol
@KristoVaher8 жыл бұрын
Do you really not think that contact tokens are a mere gimmick? You still need to do stuff to get them, I didn't feel much difference outside the early card selection compared to Imperial Settlers.
@GettingGames8 жыл бұрын
I really do think they aren't a gimmick. In Imperial settlers you could build cards from your hand with regular resources, which meant it was in general much easier to get LOTS of cards built. In 51st state it can be a struggle to get grey contact tokens, and it feels like a pinch point between getting resources and actually utilizing them. I seemed like it was always the obvious best move to build production buildings in Imperial Settlers, but in 51st State theres a real possibility the resources that building would make won't do you any good at all this turn and maybe you should build a different building that has a known shorter term benefit. Long story short, I think the contact tokens add a feeling of scarcity which enhances a turns decisions which I felt Imperial Settlers lacked.
@KristoVaher8 жыл бұрын
+JonGetsGames It requires more planning, this is true. But in a way so are resources, just from another angle. But yes it's more tight.

Any reason to own this AND Imperial Settlers?
@GettingGames8 жыл бұрын
Only reason would be the growing number of expansion races IS has. It doesn't look like 51st State will get that kind of expansion influx, though I wouldn't be surprised if more expansions came out for it.
