What lineage of chinese kenpo, just curious, is it similar to Hawaiian kenpo or something different?

Capoeira I think is overlooked. But if you really look at the movements which are "awkward...always moving" . Attackers expect you to stand still or upright. In front of them. Hard to hit a moving target. And they incorporate music into the practice to help give the students rhythm. Something that's essential in self-defence, being good at a martial art and fighting. something lacking in most other martial arts. Can't time evasion without rhythm. And notice how there are no overweight students. Can't do the moves if the student has a heavy mass in the middle or bad knees, shoulders...etc. Best to start young and keep at it. Having said that...it's not a "full-contact fighting art" in that I don't think theres any body conditioning to help absorb blows with less damage. Nor is there any contact. So for those reasons...it does have it's limitations too. But does have a lot of good points as I mentioned. As long as the Capoeira student doesn't get caught by a stronger person who stops any movement. Brings the Capoeira student to the ground or just captures any of the kicks... I think in a practical application situation...the Capoeira practitioner has to be able to land at least one clean and semi-damaging blow. Then follow up with a barrage of other blows. If not....if the first few attempts fail...chances are "the door will close". And the Capoeira student is in trouble. But compared to most martial arts...I DO see Capoeira has it's PLUSES.

I have had the experience of training capoeira with Mestres/Teachers who are/were MMA fighters. Their classes do sometimes involve a Full Contact and Body Conditioning aspect. I think it just depends on who you train with.

(LoL) capoeira is an African Brazilian fighting style not a martial art
