GERALD!!!! I used to work at a place called I&I sports. One of the few retail places in the area that sells martial arts supplies. Mr. Okamura was one of my regular customers, he was on practically every other magazine in the store so he would sign them for ppl and hand out autographed photos to all the staff and customers he was always such a very nice and humle man. A real pleasure and honor

@@MThomas001 honestly they were more into paintball. I actually got the job there cuz none of the guys knew about gis and such. The warehouse was bugger than the store but one of the few places in the area that sells uniforms, weapons and books, i believe they are still in business

It is rare to meet a martial artist killer assassin with a great sense of humor. For such a famous person he seems so down to earth...such a very nice person. Wonderful episode with Master Okamura.

I enjoyed this, as a kid growing up I too heard of Gerald Okamura. Watching this made me understand him better as a person. Him pulling out "The Mama San" Knife was funny especially with the music in the background.LOL

Great interview. I learned in El Monte from 1972 to77. When I received my Brown Belt I was 17 and Jimmy had me move from Sat, afternoon class to Thurs, night Adult class. Jimmy always told me to always keep my Basic Fundamentals strong. And to watch and see how other Arts fight. To be able to counter their attacks. And to take the lessons I was given and make more lessons from the one learned. That's what I like best about San Soo you are not stuck doing a technique one way. That's why I think San Soo is so effective. You can change a move to what is needed at that moment.

I am remember Al Rubin saying that Jimmy had an issue with Gerald and his acting career. From what I understand when Gerald got picked up on the cover a martial arts magazine with them calling him Martial Arts Magician, it made Jimmy angry and Jimmy commented on Gerald's skills. Those hook swords were standard in every KungFu San Soo School. I am not sure Gerald came up with the idea for them. As per the techniques, Gerald was not known as a great KFSS practitioner. As well, if I remember correctly Jimmy got very angry at him for mixing things together, such as other arts. From what I was told, Gerald was scared of Jimmy, and Jimmy told him to not teach or come into his area of town. I have video of Jimmy stating that the parent or root technique in KFSS can be taken and done slightly different. So I do not believe Gerald came up with that.

Never knew this guy's name. :) He has that comic book type look. But that's actually how he walks around. :) Those weapons...he designed them it sounds like to be "practical"...but as he said you can't conceal them. Let alone legally use them. Would never hold up in court. On paper they seem like good ideas. They are like other weapons e.g. from the Chinese...for forms and exercise. Nothing but. :) Dangerous still to play around with as you found out. :) He could have hooked a kidney. Even a "master" messed up. :)
