Hi all,
This is a video testing the petri effect in shallow open bezels, this just shows how shallow we can actually go with this art.

Those turned out great! I’m loving 4 videos in a week! Thanks for the update on the experiment, I’m very curious how long it’ll take to show signs of fading. Another resin artist Marina Sharp did a few experiments with different brands of resin showing how quickly some of them yellowed. That kind of info is so important to have, especially if you’re selling your work. I don’t sell but, even still.. I wouldn’t want to invest time, effort and $ only to have it end up looking terrible. So, thank you for all your work to keep us all informed!❤️

Thanks, yes, so many aspects are involved. I have spoken with many artists over this, so many things make a difference. Alcohol Ink brands, resin brands, mould shapes and location, it's not as easy as some think to come up with a fix, however, it seems very easy to dismiss them. It's such a shame.

Very pretty, colors are vibrant, thanks for continuing to the status of resin fade……suggestion it’s not for everyone, if I have a superficial blemish , bubble, Ill use my micro drill to hollow out the blemish, insert a colored gem, rhinestone, etc. with UV resin. Looks intentional ♥️

A few days ago I was just thinking if the Petri Dish would work with bezels, and you put it into practice. 😄 For this I thank you, I see that it is possible. 😊😊 The problem, however, is my colors that fade in the sun, while yours are good. 😄 As good as ever, Daniel! 😊😊

No Gulma... Thank you 😊😊. The test has confused me, so I'm now wondering if domed pieces deflect the light out some how?! Or, just the resin and inks hold up very well, however, the Coaster showed more fading with the same resin and inks, I think I'm onto something 😂 or my brain is doing its usual 😂

When i work with the moon bezel i always put the loop right to the end of my work table so the loop is hanging just over the edge, that way it lays flat, those turned out really nice, I've never tried the alcohol inks in them for the fear of "blobs" lol.

I strongly suspect the fast fade on "the other guy's" video MAY have been caused by very inferior alcohol ink. Ranger inks (ridiculously expensive!) seem to fade like that...VERY quickly, imo. But, Let's Resin inks don't seem to fade anything like that. They are far cheaper than Ranger inks, but sooo much better! I'm so glad you did this experiment! 👍😊 And now...on to the show! 😁 I am amazed at how well these turned out! I had no idea that Petri effect would happen in such shallow bezels. Good to know! I really liked the yellow and green heart.

Hi Daniel, just curious. Have you ever tried burnishing the tape to the back of the bezel and then dab a bit of the silicone release only on the sticky inside of the tape? Yes, a bit fussy but compared to the removal process with the subsequent possibility of adhesive left on the piece that needs to be cleaned off. I haven't yet been able to purchase the bezels or the tape but am looking forward to it. I also make chain maille bracelets and since you work with copper you may also have all those lovely bits of copper from which to make your own copper druzy jewelry. Which is my goal.

I love how well those colors held up in the sun. I wonder if you took a cheaper brand of alcohol inks and did it again, if they'd fade fast. Then you'd have a "Why Brands Matter" setup. And thank you for the tutorial! I've been playing with bezels for a few weeks after a friend asked me to try them with her pet's ashes. I was worried I'd mess it up, or there was a chance the resin could be knocked out of the bezels. So I've been playing with them, practicing, and then tossing them and knocking them around over time. I wonder if I can do a petri dish in the bezel and then use the larger pieces of ash to create some effects inside the bezel... I'll have to practice with some chunky sand or fine gravel first. That will be so much fun!
@daniel..cooper

Check out my ashes tutorial, it's #10, it may give you some ideas. Also, keep any old and bad pieces, you can hide them inside other resin art, especially if using black layers.

@@daniel..cooper I have a bag of the ones I wasn't happy with but were pretty, or didn't have a use for/was practicing. Figured I'd eventually put them in something or do something with them. I had the idea of making them into refrigerator magnets and putting them into goodie bags at a child's birthday party I'm helping plan. They're made with that same big mold you have with all the circles, ovals, hearts, etc.

With the sun test it goes to show inks,sinker and resin makes a difference which is why Steve McDonald's test wasn't great in my opinion. I like his videos but he can be bias when it comes to alcohol inks or even isopropanol in general although I do agree using every time to clean your silicone mixing pots or moulds can do damage over time mostly mixing pots because you use them every time where as moulds change unless your just using one every time say if you just do jewelry... Keep us updated Daniel top man 👌😉 your making my resin art better every day you inspire me. I'm definitely giving this ago I've kept a pair of open bezels waiting for someone to make a Petri dish style in open bezels from when I started because once resin is in the bezel taking it out ruins them as the silver coating gets damaged 👌😉
