Thank you for this. I was trying to make sense of ths by the rate, part and whole pyramid. This gave me a whole different way of looking at it and a better understanding of moving over decimals. Getting rid of a step!

Hi Naida, Before answering completely I'll give you some hints. Let w be the wages for this year, write the expression for 3/4 of that [of usually means multiply]. "More than" means add. 350. That should be equal to next year's salary. Give that a try. Dan

The definition of percentage is 100 x the part / the whole. In this case the part is 3 and the whole is 485. Following the definition I would divide 3 by 485 which gives me .0062 as the decimal representation of the of the part / the whole. Then multiplying by 100 according to the definition of percent gives me .62%.

@naidaescala4436 жыл бұрын
8561 = 3/4x + 350 8561× 4 + 350 × 4 ÷3x = 10948

i dont get the 2nd ? with the bikes 0.0062 x 485 =3.007
@electrodan8 жыл бұрын
Your math is correct. But if you take a look at the the original problem it asks for the percentage of 3 of 485 bicycles. If we do the math 3/485 = 0.0061855670103092783505154639175257731958762886597938... so it looks like it makes sense to round the result off to .0062 which is a tiny bit higher. So if we then multiply the 485 by .0062 we'll get a result which is a tiny bit more than 3. This step is only to run the problem backwards to check on the reasonableness of our final result. When you do word problems the physical situation must be considered. Since we're dealing with whole bicycles the .007 can be ignored. Thanks for your question. It shows that you're really thinking about the problems. Dan

3/485 =6.18556701... Not 0.00618..

This is right. 3x100%/485=0.6185=61.85% or 61.9%.

HI Dan, can you walk me through? I'm giving you the problem and my answer but not sure... thanks Caso #1 Giuseppi's Pizza 🍕 had orders for $418.00 of Pizzas. The prices were $20 for a large pizzas, $14 for medium pizzas and $8 for a number of small pizzas was one more than twice the number of Med. Pizzas. ----------------------------- How many of each size of pizza were ordered? ‐---------------------------- Answer: How many of each SIZE pizzas were ordered? LG = 10 × $20 = 200 Med = 7 ×$14 = 98 Sm. = 15 × $8 = 120 200 + 98 +120 = 418 15 is one more than doble of numbers of med. Pizza.

Hello, Can I get copy for all of these.. I think It will better for me to read the explaination. I have test coming on Nov 18 . that was my last test to get my GEd. please help me thank you
@electrodan8 жыл бұрын
Hi Bhea, Unfortunately, there was no script as such. I just used the PowerPoint slides which I prepared as a guide for what I said. Sorry. The best prep you can do is to get a set of practice exams and try them as if they were the real thing. After you've finished a whole practice exam, grade it. Find problems you missed, read the solutions, then cover up each one and it try again without looking. Unlike other subjects you can't learn math well just by reading or in the case of these videos, just by listening. You need to work lots of problems. Best of luck on your GEd. exam, Dan

Thank you for your reply, here's another and by the way this is an investment problem. If I invest forty dollars per week equivalent to $2,080 in savings per year into the same company for thirty years. How much pretax money will I have? I'm completely lost on both of these problems. If you can figure it out, please explain.. I'm giving the answer and maybe it'll help $610,322. How do they get this number?
@peterpam115 жыл бұрын
Could you explain this: A company's growth is 13% for sixty years. I put aside $10 every week for sixty years. How much pretax money will I have in sixty years?
@electrodan5 жыл бұрын
You will need to give more information to complete the problem. How does the "company's" interest relate to your $10\week savings. Is it simple or compound interest? If compound, what interval is it compounded, yearly, monthly? D
