@jellybeanparis584 but Cannes has the better beach, I was there and it was pure sand..Nice has beaches that are just stones and it's not what anyone would desire as there are so many locations in the world with pure sand..I also was told the stones are part of the reason the water looks so azure blue.

I live in Nice. Best thing if you take the tram from the airport, do not buy the ticket at the airport. Get off at Grand Arena's, and buy your ticket there, you will save money. Also the airport to grand Arena's is free. Please do come off season, you will have a great experience and you won't melt during the summer months.

yes, good tip. We arrived yesterday to the Airport and all tourists were a little bit surprised for a high price of the ticket just from the Airport! 10 EUR. But from Grand Arena it costs only 1,70 EUR /person to get to the city by tram.

I live in Nice, and I'm glad you encourage people to come in the off peak season. The trains cannot accomodate the work commuters and the tourists during the summer months, especially when tourists take the trains during rush hours. Many people are left on the platform, and commuters working in Monaco are becoming increasingly tired of the struggle to even make it on the train to get to work. Also beware of pickpockets on the tram and the trains. They take advantage of the moment you board to pick your pockets, so be aware. I've tried to warn people but I've seen so many people lose their valuables 😓

Every time I see videos like this, I always wonder why no one ever mentions bus #600/601. It's only €2.50 and it goes from Nice all the way to Menton along the coastal road and is an absolutely beautiful ride, with stops in pretty much every single city along the coast, including Eze, Villefranche, Cap d'Ail, and Monaco. It takes about 2 hours end to end, but it's more appealing than the train, which often goes through mountains and has no views. It's a good way to see a lot of the little towns along the Cote d'Azur without renting a car. Also, completely agree about Menton -- I absolutely hated it and would have left about 2 days in had I not rented a nonrefundable apartment for the month. Anyway, great video! Thank you for sharing.

Notes from a local: It takes 2x the time of the train and has a lot of turns so be prepared It doesnt pass through Eze (only accessible with bus 82 that is packed) but rather the beach of Eze where then don’t even think on climbing to the village during summer its a whole trekking path, solution is to wait for another bus to take you there

I can confirm that it’s a great video and advices because I visit French Riviera quite often. Speaking about Eze, I would say that there is even better place of the same vibe to visit. It is Saint Paul de Vence. It is bigger. And if you have a car you can visit a whole bunch of brautiful medieval little towns up the hills. And definitely, take all possible seaside walks, including Cap Ferrat and Antibes paths.

Agree with everything here EXCEPT: 1) Monaco is worth a visit to do the palace tour (Prince Grace's former home); 2) Cannes is actually a nice town with a large (free) public beach alongside the private one. For excellent coffee in Nice, I would check out La Claque in the Old Town, and Clay in the Place du Pin area and Cafe Fino in the Carabacel neighbourhood. In my opinion the best neighbourhood to stay in is Port Lympia. The tram from the airport drops you off right in the Port. It's also a stones throw from the Old City and every other place worth visiting.

Antibes is my hometown and I spend a lot of my time off in Nice, and I agree with most of your comments. I am not a big fan of Cannes (although the old part, "le Suquet" is very nice) or Monaco either. I would also recommend the "sentier des contrebandiers" which is the coastal path around Cap d'Antibes. You need good walking shoes and a few hours but the view is wonderful. I confirm, and love, that we can walk or take a train, a tram or a bus to almost anywhere in the area. And I did not count but don't worry about your pronunciation, this is quite cute actually. 😊

Great review and tips. But I need to add my two cents; we LOVED Menton! We went to one of the beach clubs and it was by far the best beach experience we had while on the riviera. The cove provided great swimming (o.k. technically floating on a raft-lounger) . And the views of the town were stunning! We never made over to Ventimiglia, but Menton had a definite Italian flair with some great restaurants and a lot of Italian speakers all around us. It sure felt like Italy 😊 It was absolutely beautiful, one of the highlights of our trip.

And make sure you leave immediately after the fireworks end to book it to the train station. There’s only so many trains after that time of night before they’re done till morning and the other tourists get desperate (and pushy) too 😬😬 Otherwise be prepared to either hangout until 6am or take an Uber/Bolt back 😅

What you missed in Menton, especially since you were there in February is the Fête Citron / The Lemon Festival. They are known for Menton lemons and their famed festival takes place about Feb 15 - March 2 every year. It is a wonderful place to see giant statues and scenes cover completely in lemons. They also have a parade with floats and fireworks (which requires tickets). The smell is so fragrant, and signals the coming of spring in the area. It is a very unique experience. It is also a good time to see the town as a whole at that time too. Just be aware that this can be rainy season in this region, so bring an umbrella or watch the weather forecast, as the entire event is outdoors.

Your pronunciations are mostly ok, don't worry too much about it ☺️. Thank you for making this video, as someone who's been living on the Côte d'Azur for several decades (mostly in Cannes and a bit in Nice during my studies), you did a great job and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Good catch on Monaco and Cannes, not much to see there indeed (and yes I live in Cannes). However there's the old town in Menton, and a nice sea-side walk on the Cap Martin next to Menton which are worth your time. But yes, Eze is the jewel of the coast ☺️. Glad you enjoyed your stay ☺️.

If you take the train to eze, Monaco or Italy I'd recommend taking the train at the main station because it gets packed of people by the time it passes by Riquier. Monaco is beautiful and totally worth a visit even if you are not a millionaire (I'm not, i promise 😂). Just don't stay there. A day trip is enough.

Hello Thanks for your video. We have been to the area and are planning to go again. We will have to take the trip the Eze it looks very interesting. Just wanted to mention to you that we stayed in Menton at a wonderful Airbnb and we really loved to town. It is very interesting and there is a monument to the women who fought in the Resistance. That was our experience anyway. Happy travels stay safe.

I also visited Nice in February (Libération, very convenient!) -- great despite the rain that fell for 1/3 of my stay (pack a sturdy umbrella :). Jardin Alsace Lorraine is a lovely, peaceful spot not far from the Promenade des Anglais, and the Musée 'Archéologique de Nice-Cimiez is fascinating! Loved Antibes and its English book shop, but be SUPER vigilant if carrying your passport: its loss/theft can ruin your trip!

I soooo Loved Nice and the surrounding areas. Your video brought back so many memories. I was there almost 20 years ago, when they were building the tram system. I liked it so much, I spent almost four years there! Oh, soca ( it's pronounced with a long "o", like rhymes with "mocha" ) and Cannes, should rhyme with Hannes ( like Han Solo ! LoL ) . Glad u'll had a GREAT time :)

An overlooked advantage of pebble beaches is that they are mycosis-free while sand beaches can be contaminated.

Thanks for the run down on Nice. I spend a few months a year in Beaulieu-sur-Mer (right next to Villefranche-sur-Mer). I agree with you on Monaco and Cannes. The Jean Cocteau museum in Menton is worth a visit and I like the promenade to walk and have a coffee. I am going to visit Saint Tropez via ferry from Nice and also visit the Ventimiglia market. We took a different approach renting a car. I didn't find driving all that bad, there's a highway just a few miles inland going through France and Italy. We widened our adventure, driving typically one or two hours away. We even spent a night in Florence. There's so much to see you could do a couple of months here. Places we went, Eze, Cannes, Monaco, Menton. In Italy we saw Genoa, Portofino, Cinque Terra and Florence. We stayed in Cap Martin and of course we were in Nice. Note: Cannes has a sand public beach.

We spent the winter in Nice. I agree with most everything, except, Ventimiglia. I thought the market was dumpy. The carnival is wild and not in a great way. Loads of pickpockets. Also, it is easy to take the tram from the airport to town. Just get off at the Grand Arenas stop and get your ticket there. It's $1.70 vs $10 if you get your ticket at the airport. Super easy to do too. Also, keep the plastic tram ticket-card, you can get a $2 refund when you leave.
