I live close to two hours drive from Sydney, and we're paying $570 a week for a three bedroom house. We're super lucky but because we're about $100-200 below the area average our landlord could raise the rent easily and we'd be screwed 😅

It’s not necessarily cheaper, with the increasing interest rates a lot of home owners who are still paying off their mortgages are struggling too. You would also need over 100K deposit for a decent home and an annual income of over 100K. Anything less and you will struggle.

Depends a lot on where you live in Australia. Prices are obviously going up like everywhere but if you got your foot in the door about 4 years ago it was much more affordable to take out a mortgage to own your own home.

That’s reasonable for the stain age. Back in the day, we’re talking mid 70s, we paid $40 a week for an apartment usually there were 3 to 4 bedrooms so we each paid about $10-$15 depending on the situation. But still 550 weeks is decent!😊

Thats definitely low. I'm in a small 2 bedroom apartment in inner city Sydney. have a balcony, no yard. rent is 770 per week. Many apartments comparable to mine are well over 850pw. So far I've not seen an accurate representation of what properties rent for in Sydney

She is getting pretty cheap rent. The rent in that suburb is about 2k a week. The house was most likely built in the late 1920s. I know cause a grew up in the area . Homes there sell for about 4 to 6 million depending on location or condition.

I’m absolutely shocked at what people pay for living quarters. We rented a house with 2-bedrooms, 2-bathrooms, and an attached single car garage for $400 a month for a couple of years. At the time, we were building our new home. We paid $20K for our empty lot, we paid $60K cash for half the expenses to build the house, the other $60K for our house build expenses we took out a 25 year mortgage with a monthly payment of $450. We paid the mortgage off in 15 years, and because the housing market is crazy our house is now worth almost $250,000 … and it’s all ours. Mind blowing 🤯

Good job!!! I live in the midwest. I payed my home off in 8 yrs. What a great feeling. For me to do this, it meant no shopping sprees, no vacations, no new cars,no extras. It is possible. I did have 100,000.00 cash that was gifted to me. Loan for 100,000.00. Bought in 1997. I stayed there for 23 yrs. Then was able to design and build my dream home on a lake/ pond, Ks. Mud hole. 😅.. love my home. Its paid. The key is to deny yourself of things you want and only spend on what you need. Ofcourse if your home isn't that important then have a ball and spend,spend,spend.
