I never heard these gents, fun stuff. I used to prowl thrift stores and yard sales for 78s back in the '70s and '80s. That was such fun and I found some great records: Hawaiian, small swing bands, cowboy songs, Yiddish novelty songs, ethnic stuff, even a minstrel record and a Teddy Roosevelt speech! The problem was that they were so brittle; every time I moved, some would break (I still mourn breaking Billie Holiday and Louis Armstrong's "Sweet Hunk o' Trash"). So I taped a bunch (not all, unfortunately) and sold or gave away the 78s. I've digitized some since then. Nowadays, most of them can be heard on KZbin, but there were a few that haven't made it yet. Just sharing.

I once heard a nightclub singer do this but with added verses, e.g., "working in a sock-tucking plant, all day long she tucks those socks, all day long those socks she tucks...working on a fig-plucking farm", and so forth. Is that version somewhere on KZbin?

Interesting...many years ago at the Showboat club in London I also heard an American lady singer do this song at the piano. Wonder if it was the same one you heard...I have no idea of her name!
