That is a cool hook that allows those who use it to give you feedback. You use left over stuff instead of buying new at a time when expenses are out of control. The “haters” as you call them are just taking out their frustrations on anyone they think they can. Videos help people make their own. That is a service to others because the video is free.

Haters are gonna hate. Russ you and your family are successful and impart great knowledge in your videos. Let the haters hate, and you all sleep well knowing that they aren’t because of their own hate. We all have things that work for us that might not for another, that’s OK! I think making your own handle shows great stewardship of what you have! You are making something from what would have otherwise been garbage, it’s practical and works, and it shows what farmers are all about, ingenuity!

Russ, I have found your videos to be very helpful, a new cattle owner learning about AMP grazing. You even took the time to answer me and offer advice. Social media is full of negativity, likely due to the fact that people can express their negativity without being face to face and in person. Most wouldn’t say what they type. Haters comments add to your comment count, I know some KZbinrs that intentionally add content to draw haters comments to skyrocket the numbers. Like not wearing eye and hearing protection when grinding, or giving a kid a sharp knife and a stick to whittle with, or running with scissors! You may be missing a golden opportunity. Bondo Billy (my hero) actually eggs the haters on during his video so they hate some more to the point it’s comical. It’s all part of the game. Really in my opinion my Grandma had it right, if they’re picking on you then they are leaving someone else alone. So I take one for the team once in a while while smiling ear to ear. If you let someone talk about themselves you will have no arguments with them . Keep sharing, most of us like your content.

I make dead end gate handles out of scraps of 3/4" black plastic water line. I cut it to length, heat it with a heat gun, flatten it in a vice, drill a hole in each end, cut a diagonal slot, cut angles on the end and on the "hook" to stream line it so as to not catch on vegetation when reeling it back up. Yes, the yellow gate handles can be purchased cheaply but it involves placing a small order and paying shipping. I get some satisfaction making things myself. I run a few hundred sheep and am doing 1x or 2x daily moves. I use mini-reels, poly braid, and O'Brien step in posts. I use 3 strands for ewes with lambs at side. 1. I put a step in post next to the permanent fence, hang the reels on the fence, switch off the brake and hook each strand through the step in hooks at 11", 17", and 24". 2. I pull out the post and drag all three strands across the paddock and hook on the the opposite permanent fence. 3. I walk back to the reels and tighten them. 4. I install posts pacing off the distance between them. 5. I wind a piece of maxishock wire around each polybraid strand and connect it to a hot wire on the permanent fence with an alligator clip. That is the most efficient way I have found to set up a short temporary fence on foot. BTW, the tip I got from one of your videos saying to have the last wind on the mini-reel next to the axle side of the frame was a huge breakthrough for me! I was previously having fits when the mini-reel frame would flex, releasing the brake peg. Any thoughts on how to make my process more effecient?

Love what you do Russ. I'm more than capable of building things but sometimes it's helpful to see just how someone got it done. I've used and adapted ideas from you and other KZbinrs in ways that work for me and my operation. I personally like the non-conductive handles that have a hook sized just right to clip on the metal post of a ring top post. I use them as end posts as I'm working my way up a strip in the pasture. I have less than 10 cattle so I have to set up what on your scale would be a very small temporary paddock. I've found the best way to do that is to set up long runs about 30 to 40 yards apart using polybraid on a geared reel, then set up the daily moves using poly twine on the mini reels. I'm going to put out a video showing my system sometime next week. What works for one person may not be what's best for the next, and that's just fine!

Those homemade handles are great russ I always wondered what to do with the off cuts from my water tanks now I have the answer. Your videos got me onto the mini reels as I too found the geared reels too heavy for most jobs. One thing I have found with the economy mini reels like yours is the locking mechanism is not as strong as I'd like and the pin tends to jump out under roo much tension as the handle bannanas away from the cassette. I have found the Gallagher mini reels with the different locking mech don't do this as the handle has a lot less flex in it. Keep up the good work best wishes from the UK
@practicalsheepmanАй бұрын
I had that problem too and was ready to throw away the mini-reels and write a nasty message to Kencove until I watched one of Russ's videos! Very simple solution, make the last couple of winds next to the axle side of the mini-real. The frame won't flex releasing the brake pin then. If you tighten it with the last wraps near the handle knob side, the frame will flex and the brake will fail resulting in a loose wire.
@tomvalentine9985Ай бұрын

Where I live in the high plains we do not get all of the rain that you get and have to farm much more acreage than you do in your part of the country to make a living. And not very many trees like you do. We would consider the land you have to be a mini farm. That means when we put up fences around the farms so people can graze their cattle on the winter wheat and summer crop stalks we have to put up miles of wire and posts. And the post have to sometimes be driven into the ground with a heavy hammer. The wire has to be metal so it can be properly tensioned to prevent sagging between post. And we also usually need multiple gates to access different part of the farm. We use fence chargers that can easily keep 10 miles of fence charged enough to prevent cattle from walking through the fence So the gate handles we have are heavy duty because of the required tension and enable the electrical charge to pass through to the other side. One thing we do to help prevent getting shocked when we put the gate to the side to pass through is arrange it so the handle connects to the upside of the charge so when it is disconnected the fence and everything past it is no longer charged. That also makes it safer to work on or retensioning or repairing the downside part of the fence without cutting power to the entirety of the fence.

You are right I do see my farm a mini farm. Can I ask where you from and how acres per cow? I really like to learn what others are doing. I use a heavier gate hook like on steel wire. Thanks for watching!
@Allen-w9d29 күн бұрын
@@RussWilson Texas Panhandle west of Amarillo. Most of our land is farm land so we usually only run cattle during the late fall, winter, and early spring when we have good enough winter wheat to provide feed for them. Winter wheat and the stubble from summer crops and we can get around 90 head on a half section for about 5 months. When you get out onto the ranch lands, depending on how much rain we get any particular year, you can put one cow with a calf per 20 to 50 acres of land. The average ranch is probably around 5000 acres. If you have one of the ranches that has the Canadian river flowing through it, you can run more cattle.

Back when you had to get off the couch and change the channel or turn off the TV, people could be heard ranting about the content of some program they had watched. Often expressing shock about what was shown. When asked, "Did you watch all of it?", often the answer was yes. People love to complain or dismiss things and others, they don't contribute anything other than negativity. Anonymity is a wonderful thing for those people, it allows them to put others down without the risk of being held accountable. The people you have blocked are most likely on many other lists of blocked persons. Take a deep breath and ignore them, responding or reacting on line gives them what they really want, attention. Quietly erasing their comments and blocking them prevents them from getting the satisfaction of a response, that's what they really want. I say don't give it to them. Good luck with your channel.

Need a blade for plywood and particleboard. They have more and smaller and less aggressive teeth so they make a smoother cut and not cause as many breakouts along the edge. Would definitely work better for that plastic than saw blades designed for regular lumber. And as for the haters. That is all they are good for. If it was not for their hate and their desire to make everybody else look inferior to themselves they would not have a life they consider worth living. Trying to explain anything to them is a waste of time. They are know nothings and do nothings who believe they the know better how to do what you do better than those who do something and make a living at it. They are not worth your time and they do not deserve your attention. They will only drag you down by worrying about what they think.

Not quite sure what in god's name your motivation was for adding posting videos to your probably already full work load- but man o man u signed up for all the love, hate, and whatever is in the middle when u decided to mess with social media. There is not a subject matter on the entire platform that does NOT get haters. You aren't special- u aren't unique- you are just one of the millions. If u are trying to stop the hate it won't happen in any of our lifetimes. The keyboard terrorists will be around as long as there are keyboards. They won't change- period. Ever. YOUR attitude toward them, and the effect it is having on YOU has to change. Otherwise you will lose more sleep than wondering if you turned the fence back on if you let it keep eating at you like this. This is your problem and only YOU can solve it bro. Making a video like this just gets them off by seeing how much they affected you, and next time they will just double down. Human nature -unfortunately. Like all the other comments below are saying- don't give them a second thought because they aren't worth your time. Good luck man

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. It’s true that the online world can be overwhelming, but your encouragement means a lot!

Man this is the internet. Never alter anything based on the comments of some random person who may be right but may be a complete moron. That's the thing about the internet. You never know who you are talking to. Safe to assume most people making asinine comments are losers of one kind or another.

If you don't have fine-tooth saw blades, turn them around to cut plastic.

Hate hate hate, 😅😊 give the all the trouble you want, advice is one thing, but people just wanting to cause trouble is different, just be yourself and keep going, oh and I go for good old-fashioned Cream Soda instead ok coke 😊

A negative mind is trapped in negative thought patterns. These patterns create trolls that delight in seeing you upset. Don't feed the trolls. They love to see you as upset and miserable as they are!

Let me get this straight. It takes me 40 minutes to get to a store that sells something like that. Plus time in the store and 40 minutes back. Gas isn't free. And all this costs only $2? I'm not good at math but something isn't right here. Seems to me like it's cheaper to make my own that's more durable.

I didn't think look at that way but, You are right! Thanks for comment!

You spent all that time talking about gate hooks, but never explained what is a gate hook for? What does it do?
@RussWilsonАй бұрын
I'm sorry that my fault. The gate hooks are used in temporary fencing for grazing livestock.

Could you please just get to the point? I came here to learn about your gate hooks. I don’t have time to hear about your butthurt complaints. I now see why you have so much contention. I stopped watching.
@RussWilsonАй бұрын
I put my butthurt complaints at the end so you learned all I had about gate hooks. I challenge you to start making content you'll learn about contention. It's easy to sit behind a keyboard and give out comments.
